the KJV is exegetically a closer translation to the original text. There is something to be said for that. The NIV is a nice in between version of todays language and the translated language. I think that for Bible study, it may be wise to take a few translations for comparison purposes; keeping in mind what "way" the particular Bible slants as far as language is concerned.
@rcsteacher The KJV is a good and very literal translation of an outdated inferior underlying majority-based Greek text - not the "original" Greek text. In fact, we do not have the original text. However, a modern critical-based Greek text such as the NA27 which underlines the NASB95 and the ESV, for example, provides a more reliable foundation for translation. There is something to be said for that.
yeah, the KJV has many errors... Look at Proverbs 3:5-6, about delighting in the Lord and something about your paths. The KJV says He will make your paths straight, but the real translation is closer to "He will direct your path"
The old KJV? WHY? It's not the most accurate translation and you should know that if you're a pastor. We have much clearer translations now, since we have more original manuscripts now. The KJV was good for its time, but we have a BETTER understanding of God's Word now that we have over 25,000 ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT pieces for the NT.

He doesn't have to use the KJV because he owns the church and can do whatever he wants :)

No. The KJB is without error. Also, it says in Proverbs 3:5 and 6:
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Beware of your aspersing God's word. At least Google it first.
