  • Oh shit, the klan upgraded from white hoods to giant mechs? Mothafucka!

  • Very interesting show, I recall. It was my gateway into the Mechwarrior games and the battletech universe as a whole. I still hold an amazing bias for the Centurion, Wolfhound, and the Mauler. Even though the Mauler's crap in this show and to an extent in the board game...

  • It looks like a Mechwarrior cartoon.

  • @thelaserman999 That's what it was. More correctly Mechwarrior is a game based on the Battletech board game.

  • I didn't know there was a Battletech cartoon until I looked it up in 2009.

  • Dude ur crazy this would tear up bayformers and d9

  • Battletech should get a live action miniseries. The cutscenes from the Mechwarrior/Commander series prove the franchise has serious potential. But this is what we got, and when you have niche interests you just have to take what you can get.

Besides, Battletech today is nowhere near as popular as it was in the 80's and 90's.

  • @OsirisLord Too many problems with live-action in a series like this. i'm all for a cgi series remake however like clone wars . Same goes for exo-squad.

  • @luisdez81

The problem with an all CG series is the same problem you had with this series; the animation age ghetto. Battletech is a pretty mature setting but you make it all animated and people will think "It's a cartoon, for kids." Now I'm not saying this was a very kiddie cartoon, it wasn't. But that's also the reason why no one died in it. You can't do a war story without people dying. And you can't have on screen deaths of major characters in a kids show.

  • @OsirisLord I beg to differ. Take a look at this and tell me it's not doable :

    /watch?v=z0RuR3FREFw

If this is too Mickey Mouse for you then I don't know what else to say.

  • @luisdez81

A CG series that looked like that would be too cost prohibitive to make. Seriously, it would be easier to just do a life action series at that point so my original point still stands.

  • @OsirisLord A live-action version on the scope of Battletech would just come off looking incredibly cheesy.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

But you have to admit that a series using the cg tech of that trailer would be kick-ass lol

  • @luisdez81

I think the guys who did Battlestar Galactica could pull it off. Unlike Stargate which is fueled by wit and action, the more desolate feel of the Succession Wars would be much more fitting for their style.

  • @onigojira maybe you've got something there.

  • @onigojira A series based during one of the Succession Wars WOULD be great to watch.

  • Oh btw i love Atlas my favourite mech!

  • bring back this cartoon i soo frigging miss it i got the old toys

  • "Now in the spirit of the Star League, ancient enemies have reunited!"

  • please make mechwarrior5, pleaaaaaaaaasseeee

  • Man I miss these days.

  • [O_O]

How the hell did I miss this?

  • I think that one of the novels actually mentioned that the events of the cartoon did actually occur... but it was a "poorly received anti-Clan propaganda piece".

  • @Significantpower It was based (loosely) on the Michael Stackpole books.

  • @Significantpower I could be wrong, but I think the cartoon was actually based on a three-novel series.

  • DAMN THAT JADE FALCON!!

  • I actually like the game, books and show so much that I sat down and wrote a story that would fix all the problems that are mentioned. I even fixed the problem that keeps new viewers away. I did here that someone else is producing a mechwarrior movie. It is very doubtfull that the holes have been fixed. I have a feeling it will be like aribender; high dollar effects with little to no dialog and no plot.

  • You can tell this is taken out of a mechwarrior game!

  • @xbomb38 Way to go Captain Obvious. Could it have been because Battletech and Mechwarrior were the same thing?

  • They should remake it. This show, and the universe behind it, has a lot of history and a very large fanbase. Thousands would support it.

  • They attacked MY HOMEPLANET!

  • I thought this was the coolest cartoon ever when I was 8. The toys were pretty cool too. I actually rewatched the series a couple years ago and still liked it. I just wish it would come out on DVD with better video quality. The downloadable versions are atrocious. The last episode is also hard to find (although I eventually found it). Then I got into the table top game around age 12. Being old sucks.

  • anyone got the inrto on high def or where i can get the cartoon??

  • my altime fav Mech was the AXMAN..... i dono somthing about a mech with a blunt weapon sounds sick!!! i wound love to see a clip of the axman hacking up clan mechs like when the Natives hacked up the english in the 1600-1700's

  • @racecardriver467 There were actually two variants of the Axman. The first variant had the head off-center and an AC-20 on its shoulder. The variant two (as seen in the cartoon) has a centered head and two LRM 15's (I think). Then there's the Hatchetman, but it was only 45 tons, I believe.... Two of my favorites too actually.

  • The Clans, white crackers from space.

I remember when I was three, I was in either Maryland or Puerto Rico and I wanted to get the toy of the red mech, but my mom didn't want to get it. Afterwards, my only memory of this show was that event. By then, I was collecting Beast Wars toys. God Bless the 90s.

  • Jeez, they even added a tolken black guy and hispanic girl to make you quit whining and that wasn't enough?

  • I said FROM space, not IN space. When you use "from space", it implies that they're invading something while "in space" denotes somebody was there already. White crackers from the far-off reaches of the galaxy invade the Galactic Federation and a diverse crew work together to fight back. THAT'S the joke I was working in.

  • Oh so.

Don't give James Cameron any ideas XD

  • "But they made one mistake...they attacked MY home planet! Now, in the spirit of the Star League, ancient enemies has reunited...and we're gonna TAKE BACK our galaxy!" -> theme song repeats. Easily the best part.

Btw, "ancient enemies" refers to whom? I *think* the emblem on the right was Steiner.

This and MW4 were my introduction to BattleMechs. And he does have a point: Clan mechs tend to be superior in MW4.

  • "Ancient enemies" basically refers to the five Successor States in the post-Star League Inner Sphere. In this case, the Draconis Combine (House Kurita - emblem on the left) and the Federated Commonwealth (a merger of House Davion's FEDERATED Suns and House Steiner's Lyran COMMONWEALTH).

  • What baffles me is the fact no one takes any clan mechs as salvage even though they show them roughly intact.

It doesn't show Ciro in the opening lineup which I originally thought, he's gonna die, turns out I was close.

  • @ChaosMissile

Then you missed quite a bit, Phasa had started to have large legal issues around that time and had to dragistly change the game design's, befor falling and selling out to Wizards of the coast. The most accurate game we got was Mechwarrior 3 after that it gone down hill.

Clan's did have better tech rangeing from Extended range Omnitech , Armor, Nural implant's and cloneing(better gunnery and piloting skill). Later Innersphere started to reverse engineer there technologie

  • Radical CG graphics on your home television set!

  • I KNEW there was a show of Mech Warriors. At least now I know why I could never seem to find it. I kept calling it Mech Warriors as opposed to Battle Tech. Oh well.

  • i loved this show it was so cool plus im a big robot fan, mechwarrior etc i really enjoyed it

  • The show had a bit of promise, but it felt too much like an experimental series. The CGI definitely did not mesh with the rest of the animation. That and the fact that no one ever died in the entire show kinda killed it dramatically.

  • Gotta remember this was a kids show back in the day xD

  • I guess I'm just spoiled by all the anime that I have watched, plus I am a HUGE Mechwarrior fan.

  • where can i download the seasons for this?? anyone??

  • Ah the series that got me into mechwarrior.

  • same here.

  • The last mechwarrior brings an axe to a laser fight!!...lol

  • I would love to see a remake of Battletech. Having played Mechwarrior and even before that with the little figurines seeing this show brings back memories and with Technology now it wouldn't be to hard to do.

  • Me and some friends were talking about that last weekend. But, I've heard that there is a Robotech / Macross live action movie in the works with Toby Maguire as Rick Hunter (I think). And Battletech was a rip-off of that show.

  • I am going t.o tell you that the animation of this show sucks This is not an attack on the show, i am just saying that it is clunky and the machines just look off as machines. Exosquad (which i liked BTW) had the same problems.,

  • I hate to say it, but I have to actually agree with you.

Even back in 95-96 when I first saw it, I couldn't see it after few episodes. The movements and everything was just too stiff and unsmooth.

I really wish they'd remake BATTLETECH and properly, you know... with people actually dying instead of going boo boo.

  • I would like to see a good battletech series, the setting is nice and diverse and with some halfway decent writing you could easily pull off a good storyline. Firefly would be a good template for the space stuff in such a show (no sound, just music with outside shots).

  • Yeah. That would be nice.

  • @Bapman2099

I do recall the clans orbitally bombarding a planet, presumably killing all the civillians.

  • @SartoriusSeven Clan Smoke Jaguar orbitally bombarded Turtle Bay on the planet Edo, levelling everything. Which is one of the primary reasons why the Jags were targeted by the Trial of Annihilation carried out by SLDF forces. That act also resulted in the other Invading Clans sending their WarShips home - since glassing civvies was considered 'dishonorable' and 'wasteful' by Clan ideas.

  • its badly animated but so were a lot of shows back then... plus they didn't have the biggest budget. Most American mech cartoons were pretty bad in the 90s. Of course they are hardly much better in the 2000's. This isn't Gundam Wing by any stretch of the imagination.

I'd really like to see Battletech remade (with a LOT more episodes this time around!)

  • @ImperatorZor

Agreed, i love the Timberwolf but this show animated it badly

  • @ImperatorZor Agreed. Guessing that CGI wasnt very well developed back then and this was the best they could come up with. Shame really..

  • @Fiskarsmurfen

That being said, it still blew your six year old brain when you saw it for the first time.

  • @ImperatorZor

It looked just fantastic enough for me to enjoy it, but then again, I Love cheesy robot movies :D

  • always makes me laugh when stieners axeman clobbers the vulture and does seemingly no damage . in game those axes are lethal

  • Does anyone know the names of the machines at 0:34? I thought I used to have a toy one once.

  • you mean the smaller battlesuits ?

    those are ' elementals'

  • Jesus Christ! Thank you! Years ago I thought I had a toy of one once, but thought it didn't exist. I love you!!!

  • Mad Cat or Timber Wolf

  • @SabbyGuy09 They're the same. Inner Sphere calls them Mad CAT. In any event, a mech of delight that unleashes horror on its poor enemies.

  • Blast from the past baby.

  • I have a episode of this taped awesome cartoon.

  • Dude was pissed.

  • "They made one big mistake...they attacked MY home planet!" lol

  • This was acknowledged by FASA as Battletech cannon though - i think anyway

  • isn't the lead character in this now leading the Steiner forces against the Blakist Jihad?

  • I LOVED the music, this is the best stuff ^^ brings back the good ole days ^^

  • i think this need remake but to be more realistic have like real mechwarrior.

real war not like caroton charachters

    real warriors in battle...

  • Epic old 3-D is epic.

  • So much potential. Never given a chance to grow.

    BTW: great toys too :D

  • @black2much Yea I used to have a lot of the toys. Same with exo-squad toys

  • Battletech, Bionic Six, & The Exo Squad...3 more underated cartoons:)

  • @armandroh666 I couldn't agree more, three of my favorite cartoons of all time.

  • i remember axeman....in fact...thats like the only thing i remember about this cartoon...besides its name....and that it had a groovy song in its opening.

was/is it part animationa nd part computer graphics?

i always thought that it was purely graphics!

  • i wish that i had seen all 15 episodes. the furthest along that i saw in the story was when clan wolf came along.

  • man i loved this cartoon back in the day , i still love the AXM-2N to this day XD

  • Ahahaha does that mech have an axe?! I don't quite recall that being on any of the weapon slot lists for any of the games.....

Oh and hail Clan Jade Falcon, chosen children of Kerensky etc etc.

  • the kanazuchi has a power claw and i think thats the closest it gets (NEVER MAKE ONE IT SUCKS)

  • Hatchets are in Classic Battletech, so it would make sense that the Ax-man would have an ax.

  • the hatchetman or Ax-man, whatever you wanna call it, is part of the battletech cannon, the reason the games don't have it is because they already support so much long range stuff, since the game is soo unbalanced, it'd be pointless to have something for close range melee.

  • The Hatchetman and Axeman were two different mechs. They were used extensively throughout the classic Battletech when FASA was still around...and they were made even better with the 'Maximum Tech' expansion. The axe already did a decent amount of damage but it was multiplied when you added Triple Strength Myomer to the ax arm.

God I miss playing that game.

  • nothing beats battletech man. play the card game. its good.

  • Never heard of it but looks tight when did the show come out and what channel

  • I think it came out in '95... n I have no idea what channel 'cause I dont live in USA.

The cartoon was ok... the dialogues were too cheesy. It needs to re-made as a serious SCI FI

  • yeah, i agree. likelihood of it happening? slim, happening soon zero.

  • @Bapman2099 If you liked Battletech but found it a bit cheesy, you might like Wing Commander Academy. made by the same studio, but the animation was a little bit tighter and they had better writing and actors (seriously. Mark Hamil and Malcolm McDowell.) Still had its share of cheese, but just a better put together show.

  • @CrimsonGuardian if live in canada it was on the space channel

  • I remember this show...A wonderful Classic cartoon...

  • When did this happen? How long ago was this made? It's cool!

  • It was done in the 90s, was an awesome old cartoon I watched religiously. I remember punching my cousin when he tried to change the channel in the middle of the show.
