Man I play piano by ear and LOVE this song dearly - I just wish I could play the left hand like you do - not too good with Classical, this is just beautiful - any chance on a tutorial for this - or any helpful advice?? Will be watching this video over and over again, LOL! KEEP IT UP! R.I.P MJ.....Love my MJ!
Hi pianogrl697 - many thanks for your compliment. I will be uploading a few tutorials on playing a bit later. Several people have asked for a tutorial on this so I'll give it some planning and upload something.
If I could see & hear you play then I might know what advice to give as there may be things you already know - it sounds like you're an accomplished pianist already.
Let me know - and I'll also give it some thought. Once again thanks for the great comment.
Thanks - well I wish I had the equipment to make a video and I kinda do, I can record with my camera but it needs a new battery, LOL! But I will watch this and try and play what I can & try a video. The right hand doesn't sound too complicated but the left hand is what's so flowing and complex. Thanks for your compliments - I was never good at sight reading but always playing by ear & have perfect pitch. I will learn what I can from this video. Happy Holidays to you and keep playing!! :-)
Looking forward to the video - I'll help as much as I can. I'll send a PM in a bit.
I'm exactly the same - perfect pitch and playing by ear - never practiced sight reading much. I'd say mine today is OK - I'm able to read for most Associated Board exams, but I must say that during my teenage years in the 1980's my sight reading was absolutely dreadful!
I think of several concert artists who are hopeless readers - most can get by without anyway. Some successful musicians don't even read music.
What I meant was most MUSICIANS can get by without being good at sight reading. It's really only a requirement for certain areas - even then people can prepare beforehand.
Anyway - happy holidays to you as well. Have a nice Xmas & new year :-)
I KNOW! Look at The Beatles - but I dunno how they did it. I am too much of a "perfectionist" always have to get note for note perfectly - always been like that, LOL! Need to learn to improvise and just be "free" lol.
10 yrs. of lessons and just never picked up on sight reading and playing smoothly - stumbled, hit wrong notes, confidence-issues - VERY aggravating. So I just stuck with playing by ear and still do but I try to read a little so I don't get too rusty. I saved SO many videos on here to learn - just need to get an adapter for my OLD keyboard or just buy a used keyboard and use that for practice. Piano's too big to carry upstairs LOL!!
This might help. Rather than worrying about messing up, think about this being your moment - you're doing this for MJ, (maybe for Charlie Chaplin), but also for yourself and all those closest to you. Maybe watch MJ's version on YouTube a few times.
Tomorrow - take your time before you begin. It's YOUR moment, your personal tribute to MJ - even think of him listening up there somewhere. He wants you to do well - as does everyone around you.
Thanks - I'm actually thinking about dividing my channel up into playlists - one for my studio work, one for my playing and one for general non musical stuff - there will be some tutorials on one of those - general playing techniques etc - and there I'll do one of this.
As I'm typing I see there is a video 'Smile - Piano lesson' (glockenspiel 137) & 'How to play 'Smile' on Piano (TheMusicMark) - but I haven't seen either of those videos yet - anyway, tutorial on its way later.
Thanx. I like your version the best. Sounds more full and personal. But thanx 4 the other tutorials to tide me over in the meantime. Great playing and keep up the good work!
@RockytheBear Hi - I cannot believe it has been a year since I said I was going to do a tutorial - I have another vid to upload, but those tutorials will be on their way. Cheers for the patience lol.
@RockytheBear Oops lol. I will be moving soon and once I get set up in my new place I will be making more videos. I've just finished doing some tracks for a festival which will help go towards a new CLP470. I have a follow up vid to my MvP02 which will include a short response to a vid made about one of my PMs, + some more stuff on Logic and on piano. SO many vids which I'm eager to do once I'm set up :-) I'll keep posted on my channel + there will be a tutorial on this - that's a promise :-)
Actually - just thinking about this. If anyone knows how to replace the audio of a video without replacing the video itself please leave a comment. Thanks.
Ow I hope you'll not be disapointed, the beats I uploaded are not finished because I just make it for fun I don't know anything about music lessons so I make what I can ! I'd be happy to have some feedbacks. I'll check your work too as soon as possible !
Thanks. I can think of many musicians who never took formal music lessons and they still made it - through the quality of their music. I used to be a Straits fan in my school years. Of course it is a help & I will be uploading some tips in my later videos.
Beautiful music making!!!
What a wonderful Tribute to MJ!
