The $40 wannabe has a bigger screen than the $2000 original. And you can build your own objects. And change the graphics to suit your needs.
It's not multitouch. And you do have to wear a glove. But it's almost two grand cheaper. And if you used an FSR instead of a momentary switch, this could be pressure sensitive. The lemur can't be.
It's also possible to obtain, which is a plus. (the Lemur is currently out of stock while undergoing renovations)
There is no lag to speak of and I had a ton of fun with this setup, but have to admit that I haven't played with it in quite some time. Many other projects, including work have kept me from continuing. But I would like to note that it is possible to get this working as multitouch and with some infared leds shooting into a plexiglass overlay its also possible gloveless. Just have to code it.
Hi everyone, I´ve found this video so interesting.....that I would like to learn how to create the virtual midi interface with max msp, since I want to get rid of all my midi hardware.
Have you tried to create a custom midi interface like the one we see on the video, with X/Y pads and sliders?
Is there any software to emulate a midi controller to use with this on PC? I was seriously going to buy a lemur until I saw this, but only if its possible to make other programs think it really is a midi controller.
All you need to make yourself a midi controller "emulator" is max/msp. its cross platform and if you go to my link in the description you can find info on how to do it.
This is fucking nuts. I cant wait to get it set up. Can you load any max patch and control it via the wiimote? how do you make the interface for the monitor?
the cost is the main difference here, plus i am currently working on a max patch that will incorporate multitouch and a new infrared overlay for monitors that will eliminate the need for a glove. More info on my site.
pretty awesome

I like how you use Reason on the other screen.

What is the status on your mutli-touch version!?
(You haven't updated your blog in awhile.)
Any progress on a glove-free version too?
ALSO: When performing, where do you have the wiimote placed?
titanisiam 1 year ago
yeah that's a really cool DIY interface,
of course it's limitated, but it's the worth to try at least
and also it's not "monitor dependant" -> relly cool

great job!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
buy a jazzmutant lemur instead of this, this is just a wannabe

So, there are tradeoffs...

Also, does this lag or have noticable delay if you do quick movements with a fader (maybe 2 inches wide?)
I noticed you use the interface slowly with your fingers, just wondering how practical this really is compared to the Lemur.

@midimeek Could you PLEASE message me re: gloveless and multitouch versions. Even a quick "what you have to do" is more than handy.

I think the software guy has some multi-touch whiteboard demos....

Would be with another glove. Johnny Lee's software supports multitouch.

I think the glove is GREAT!!!! congratulations!!
I want to create a virtual MIDI Interface to control ableton and this glove, I have been looking into your website and some links are broken.
Would you be so kind to post another video tutorial explaining how to create a virtual MIDI interface on MAX/MSP??
snorkman88 2 years ago
Follow the link in my info to learn how to do this in max/msp

hey
can you implement one led per finger to emulate multitouch?
JulCanada 2 years ago

Holy mole.
Are you telling me i can use my regular screen as a touch screen ?
I've been dying to get my hands on a Lemur, but it looks like i may not have to wait !
I need to ask a few more questions, then im gonna go ahead and buy a second monitor just for this !

thanks i figured it out,I can create my own patch and all now wonderful!...where is the monome patch i cannot find it on the monome website...

what do i do to get a virtual midi controller in max to control midi in an app. like reason?
halorivet 3 years ago
you can select max/msp as a midi device in reason, just like adding any other device.

HMMM. very clever

This is rather cool. Please continue, you are being appreciated.

seems like that would eventually damage your monitor
hbeezey 3 years ago
i place a piece of glass on top of my monitor to protect it. Suggest that everyone would do the same.

veiss8801 3 years ago
You could control really any program with this, all wiimote whiteboard does is act like a mouse.
midimeek 3 years ago
niiice. I hope you get the multi-touch working, that would be sick. wish i had a wiimote to try this with...

APart from the clever max patch what is the difference from a normal touchscreen?
the lemur is multitouch

Ha ha, looks fun! I hope you can make gloveless/multitouch version of this. ^^
