If fish are like reptiles, the tank should be 10 - 20x as big as the animal you are keeping...

But please remember these are predatory fish and they will get their food in whatever means they find necessary. He desperately needs a much bigger tank, maybe with some foliage and mandrake roots like in his natural surroundings. He will always have the hunting instinct and some live food will be better. drop a few minnows in there for him to hunt, he will thrive and be much happier :-)

You tank your animal and put in in a different area so after it eats you can clean the mess up WAY easier. of course this person doesn't have a fully grown oscar in a 20 gallon it wouldn't grow that big, fish and turtles both grow only as large as their enclosers let them. thats why goldfish don't get full sized in bowls, and why you find big fish in more water.
