@FishinTheVille Thanks, it's a little dated by now but was fun to make. I bought that belly boat in Columbia, MO in the mid 90's for about $250. It's still going strong 15 years later. The new ones are, of course, nicer and can be purchased at any Outcast boats website or outlet.
@EVILCANEVAL84 It is in a little pond near Nevada, Missouri. The reel is a Diawa Pro and I think the rod is an Abu-Garcia. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Nothing like buzzbait fishing. I always have a rod tied up with a buzzbait when I go out. Dont let the common ideology of using only buzzbaits in morn/evening get to you...I use them all day and year round with success. Great video
@getsomekayak Thanks for the nice comments and, yes, buzzbaits can work just fine in the middle of a bright sunny day sometimes. I love them and am a bit sad that I didn't have much luck this season but I always carry several with me.
Gotta say that this is one of my favorite vids. i love topwater fishing and buzzbaits. just wondering, im really trying to buy a baitcasting reel. what kind is urs and do u have ay tips before i buy one?
@MeCuzImWyte Thank you, so kind of you to say. Well, I'm using a Diawa Pro casting reel in this film. Fortunately, there's a lot of really good equipment out there these days. My recommendation would be (ideally) to give your reel the "hand-test" if you live near a tackle store such as Bass Pro. By that I mean handle the reel, see how it feels, how it reels, and how it works. You may prefer a R or L handled reel, too. Then you can see if the one that feels "right" to you is in your budget!
honestly i have never caught any bass on a buzz. but i have used them on cool days, cloudy days, and even windy days. never had a strike. spooks and poppers are my topwaters.
@TheBombBros I hear you. I carried those crazy buzzbaits around for a long time and never had any luck. I think it depends on whether or not the fish are on a buzzbait "pattern" and sometimes you can't get a strike in the same water where your were hammering them a week or so earlier. Go figure!
@Winkiedoodles that sounds about right! ive done the same with other baits.
i always though that the buzz bait just moved too fast and if they were sluggish, they didnt even bother to hit it. seems you had a killer time though! well, keep it up!
@TH3SUP3RR3DN3CK It is an Outcast float tube called a "Fat Cat 66." Outcast sporting goods (you can see them on line) makes them still, but they are more modern.
@43405555 Thanks for asking. I used several different buzzbaits, typical Stanley and Strike King buzzers from Wal Mart. No trailer hook. The reel was a Daiwa pro and the rod was an Abu Garcia if I recall.
@Winkiedoodles Ok, a real fisherman use "Catch & Release".. Glad to hear people let the fish remain free so the fishing can go on for many more years! :)
@43405555 Perhaps 'pointless' is too strong a word. In my experience fish seem to bite better on all lures, including buzzbaits, in overcast conditions. Fish make the rules the fish follow, if they want to hit a buzzbait on sunny days, they will.
hey, nice fishing there, i was wondering if you can give me some pointers for using a buzzbait, i went on a whole day at the lake using a buzzbait and didnt have any luck at all. im also fishing from the shore. any tips would help :)
@43405555 Thanks, 434. Well, as you can see, on this particular outing (early June) the bass were a few feet out from the bank or around some sort of brush. This pond wasn't very deep, either. The best advice I can give to a shore fisherman is to throw to cover an arc of 180 degrees. You might find them up close to the bank or further out. If the bass are suspending deep you are wasting your time with a buzzbait. Buzzbaits are just another tool in your arsenal of lures; someimes deadly!
@Winkiedoodles also top water is ALMOST worthless on blue bird sky days..cloud cover is best..also vary the retrieve. if you see a bass following it speed up..works for me anyway
@n4sir804 That's been my experience as well; cloudy, overcast skies with a little wind blowing towards the bank you are fishing is ideal. I'll also "jerk" the buzzbait now and then to see if that entices bass. Sometimes they want it real slow; sometimes faster. A great bait when they are on that pattern. I'f they're not chasing as much I like a Pop-R or something that hangs around longer.
@thacoasterking Thanks for watching and commenting! I used a "Sportz Shot" helmet cam. It is a set-up with a micro-camcorder and an external lens that you can mount on helmets, goggles or whatever. I had the lens on a visor on my head and the camcorder was in a special harness on my chest. I think I had the resolution set too low but this was in the "old days" before I had much experience with that setup.
@philly442 Thanks for watching, Philly. You know, I saw a Bill Dance episode about the "money frog" (not sure who makes it but they sell them at Bass Pro shops) and will have to get some of the newer style frogs with the super active legs such as the ribbit frog. They're even better than buzzbaits for lilly pads.
@philly442 OK, I found out that YUM makes the "money frog." I'll also see if I can find a Stanley ribbit frog and throw them around this year and see what gives!
@philly442 i use the stanly ribits a bunch and the are extremely successful. I catch really nice fish in lilly pads. I prefer the hot feet or a natural color because they seem to produce the best. They are definetly worth trying out!
@philly442 Thanks Philly! I went to BPS a month or so ago and now have a collection of both Ribbits and Money Frogs and will be throwing them around this year. They are pretty nice frogs!
@Winkiedoodles AWESOME!! I recently just went to bass pro and picked alot of stuff up like sweet beavers in watermelon candy and the zoom speed craws they look to good!
@16bassmaster16 Nothing really big that day. The pond has a lot of fishing pressure and most of the big ones are probably (sadly) in someone's skillet.
@16bassmaster16 No, just a bunch of smaller ones that day. The pond gets a lot of fishing pressure and chances are most of the bigger bass are in someone's freezer.
since u are on the bank start close to shore and fan cas l to r or r to l u wont get arrested if u cas out in front if pond isnt deep u mite catch a bass out in front at times
can you tell me what reel that is exactly because my good ole quantum has deceased :( and im looking for a good daiwa reel so if you could get back to me I sure would appreciate it
Not entirely sure if there is a new or older model. This was a really nice reel a friend of mine asked me to fix the "bird's nest" he had made. So I did, and took it to the lake for a "test." As you can see, it worked just fine. Obviously if you are wanting a new reel, you're going to have to get a new reel; if you are wanting a used or older model reel, well, check the garage sales in your area.
Hello there! I've been trying buzzbaits for a few weeks now and I have nothing to show for 'em! I've tried them in several spots, trying different colours and techniques, but no such luck! I'd love it if you could tell my how to fish these properly and when to use certain colours. Thank you very much for the video, fishing brother.
Shkerks, GREAT QUESTIONS! I'll drain my brain for you based on the experience I've had. The key to buzzbaits "when." I assume you are throwing them around stumps or brush or over weedlines and other places where the bass SHOULD be. Well, this is August and the last time I threw one was early June. For me, they've worked BEST in May and June and in October and November. If you aren't getting bit, be flexible and use something else. DON'T GIVE UP on buzzbaits; they are too much fun!
Righty-O! I will try them in those months! I'm a big fan of spinnerbaits, topwaters and jigs, but I was thinking "These look like heroes!" so i threw em out there. Thanks, man!
Well, Shag Master, I was using white and chartreuse. Yes, it actually rained during the outing if I recall. Buzzbaits work really well when there's some "chop" on the water due to wind.
Thanks for watching and commenting, Largebass! Well, I bought it about 13 years ago for around $350. You can get the newest model (they are made by Outcast sporting goods) for around the same price. Add waders/fins and you're on the water for around $500; worth every penny.
Agree 100%. Any topwater (Pop-R, Spook, buzz bait, etc) is really, really fun when they are on that pattern. Buzz baits are my favorite because you can throw them almost anywhere.
Thanks for watching and commenting, deathpunish! I think I was using Strike King buzz baits or Lazer Eyes. Sometimes they wanted a regular prop and sometimes a triple but just about anything worked.
Thanks for watching, and, again, great questions! Do a youtube search for "belly boat" and you'll see several different models by different vid posters. If you look at the very beginning, of this vid, you see what appears to be a chair in the middle of the boat. You just lift up the back and sit down, that's all there is to it! You don't fall out, because it is like sitting in the water in a lawn chair. The reel is a Diawa Pro.
I think the whole set up was around $275 or so....you can check out helmet cameras, camcorders, etc at sportz shots on the web. Vid quality was not the best but you get what you pay for.
This was a Cyberlink production from last June. The helmet cam makes for a unique perspective, but the set up I'm using is kinda flaky insofar as resolution. I think the camcorder itself is the weakest link as it didn't give the clarity I would have liked. But, having said that, I'm going to use it again on that pond this year in a month or so! Ha!
Uwiluz, thanks for the compliments! The camera was strapped to my sunglasses, but the little camcorder didn't seem to record as clear as I'd prefer. Anyway, as you know, if you find a stick or stump, there's a bass on it!
They are called float tubes or belly boats. Mine is real old (circa 1996) made by Outcast (you can google them); the new ones are super cool. It weighs maybe 10 lb; perfect for small ponds and lakes.
Hoppey, thank you so much for your kind comments! I live in Springfield, Missouri. We have lots of great lakes around here but you still can't beat a small pond for consistent fun.
Thanks for commenting! I don't think so...they were the Lazer Eye types if I recall. You could have thrown an aluminum can with a hook on it that day and caught fish.
TG95 thanks for the nice comment! I believe that was a pretty decent Abu-Garcia Med action rod I found at Bass Pro. I like it because it has a long handle (for control) and a pretty good backbone. Not a G.Loomis or a Falcon but still did the job.
Dean and Tina, thanks for the great comments. I couldn't reply because something was wrong with You Tube. Anyway, hope you're out there slayin' 'em on buzz-baits! Nothing much happening around here; I think the unseasonal monsoon we had recently due to the hurricane messed things up.
yeah i know what you mean brother , i have a 100 by 50' pond that i own and the sun was setting with a bunch of mosquitos on top of what water and they were hitting the surface like crazy .. i slapped a zaraspook top water lure on the casted by shore and what do ya know .. SPLASH!! i pulled in a big large mouth
next may and june ill try fishing in a pond with a buzz bait ..now is a jitterbug considered the same? because i love the action on them and they work fantastic , its just great to get outdoors and enjoy nature everyday. I thank the lord for the opprotunity and i hope you feel the same .. please keep the vids coming
Joe, yes, jitterbugs are really good, too! Also, there's Zara Spooks, Pop-R's, Chug-Bugs, prop baits, double prop baits, and on and on when it comes to topwaters. Anytime they are cruising the shallows or there's a lot of cicadas or other insects topwaters seem to work really good. Experiment with different sizes, shapes and colors and have a blast!
Yipes! I don't think I'll ever try to use a float tube in Pike waters...I've heard too much about their teeth! True, you lose very few except maybe to trees (ha).
Joe, absolutely. There's two pretty good sized ponds where the bass just climb all over buzz baits in spring/early summer. I think I fished about 2 hours on this pond and caught 16-18 fish and had to leave due to lightning.
Doodles, hot-diggity-dog that place sure has some good cover! Fishing buzzbaits is fun. I went up to Lake Sonoma last evening and got blown up on my buzzbait by a fish that was at least five pounds; she didn't hook up though. Hey, how is your summer fishing pattern doing over there? Ours is pretty lousy over here; it seems like the fish just aren't turning on at all of the regular spots. The secret spot doesn't count because it never gets any pressure. THE FISH HAVE LEFT THE BUILDING!!
707, thanks! For some reason my vids aren't coming up as available in HQ at the moment (none are) so something's jacked up. It should be a lot clearer when that kicks back in. Fishing right at the moment: Nope!

Hoppey, thank you so much for your kind comments! I live in Springfield, Missouri. We have lots of great lakes around here but you still can't beat a small pond for consistent fun.

Are those the $1.oo buzz baits from Walmart?

Thanks for commenting! I don't think so...they were the Lazer Eye types if I recall. You could have thrown an aluminum can with a hook on it that day and caught fish.

man they sure bend that rod of yours man

TG95 thanks for the nice comment! I believe that was a pretty decent Abu-Garcia Med action rod I found at Bass Pro. I like it because it has a long handle (for control) and a pretty good backbone. Not a G.Loomis or a Falcon but still did the job.

Dean and Tina, thanks for the great comments. I couldn't reply because something was wrong with You Tube. Anyway, hope you're out there slayin' 'em on buzz-baits! Nothing much happening around here; I think the unseasonal monsoon we had recently due to the hurricane messed things up.

Great Vid and action ! Buzzbaits rule < Loose very few of them except when them damn angry northern pike hit them just like scissors !*****
Bassfooler 3 years ago
Yipes! I don't think I'll ever try to use a float tube in Pike waters...I've heard too much about their teeth! True, you lose very few except maybe to trees (ha).

wow they went right for it!
joedinaadi 3 years ago

THE FISH HAVE LEFT THE BUILDING!!
bassin707 3 years ago
707, thanks! For some reason my vids aren't coming up as available in HQ at the moment (none are) so something's jacked up. It should be a lot clearer when that kicks back in. Fishing right at the moment: Nope!
