Also, the rifle is capable of a mile long shot, but very few shooters are capable of making that shot. Very few.

Modern Planes can move so fast now they can dodge bullets at far distances. All the factors that come into play to shoot down a modern commercial jet would make the shot so complex only someone who specializes with the Barret .50 cal. It is a one in a million shot if you want to hit a plane AND take it out of the sky. Chances are the shooter would miss if it were any average Joe. But a specialist still can't do it.
It occurs to me that anti-aircraft guns have used .50cal. They also have used .30-06 rounds. All anti-aircraft guns are invariably fully-automatic. BECAUSE ONE BULLET ISN'T GONNA DO THE JOB.

They are also awkwardly large. Think a set of downhill ski's. Duct tape has probably killed a bunch of people (so has aspirin) but this is an Apples to Oranges analogy either way. Also, the rifle is capable of a mile long shot, but very few shooters are capable of making that shot. Very few.

Impose new car legislation and require car dealers to obtain fedral permission and to purchase extremely expensive class 3 FCL (federal car license) to be able to sell them. And close the used car loop holes. ALL car sales require background checks. Ban cars with more than 10 gallon fuel tank capacity.

Modern Planes can move so fast now they can dodge bullets at far distances. All the factors that come into play to shoot down a modern commercial jet would make the shot so complex only someone who specializes with the Barret .50 cal. It is a one in a million shot if you want to hit a plane AND take it out of the sky. Chances are the shooter would miss if it were any average Joe. But a specialist still can't do it.

It occurs to me that anti-aircraft guns have used .50cal. They also have used .30-06 rounds. All anti-aircraft guns are invariably fully-automatic. BECAUSE ONE BULLET ISN'T GONNA DO THE JOB.
Also, they make 20mm sniper rifles. (For comparison, the .50BMG is 12.5mm.)

One round isn't going to take it down, even if it was a 50. Not to mention that airplanes move at 100s of miles per hour and fly really high. Let's just say that by some chance you hit a pilot (traveling at 1000s of feet in the air and moving fast). Most commercial airlines have 2 pilots, and both of them are able to fly.
