This Sonar is a deadly weapon and should be ABOLISHED .

and that should pull up a few sites where you can learn more.

LFA stands for Low Frequency Active,

but Low does not imply little.

It means that the sonar is on the low end of the sound spectrum and it actively sends out SUPER BLASTS of LOW FREQUENCY SOUND that will travel for many miles underwater until it hits a SOLID object, which in many cases happens to be the body of a Whale. It has killed many of them this way.
