  • Great sublime jazz keyboards drowned out by repetitive, straightforward beats. The turntables are really pretty weak instruments in an ensemble. They're best backing up an MC in hip-hop routines.

Give Bob a real rhythm section behind him.

  • I'm on a weak connection so maybe i should wait until I see the whole video before I respod to what someone said about RobSwift knowing about Bob James or giving him a hug or some shit... OK I saw it. All i can do is give Rob the benefit of the doubt that he might of been tired or distressed or something. Rob is the man he knows WTF Bob James is and it takes a lot to do what the X Men do. Its hard work in a world where your own people don't appreciate you. THIS WAS AN HONOR

  • Can u say musical madness!?!? This should be sending every hip hop, R&B and Jazz producer back to the lab! And for those of y'all dissing, just kick back and enjoy the moment. Bob James doesnt need to do anything to stay relevant. Thats the point of the performance, to show that Bob James is one of the blueprints of hip hop

  • What great artists have to do to remain relevant. smh!

  • I'd rip off my own face to be at this gig...

  • rob swift got too caught up in how cool he was spinning Bob James's breaks on the table while Bob James sat right behind him....jackass. no fucking acknowledgement.

  • Yo, both are legends but I would've been bowing down if I were Rob Swift.

  • oh shit wow i wish i was there for this

  • check this son. you people want some info. go to : red bull academy/ red alert. the video dosent lie . your man has no class unciase1. hiphop started in the 70's . your talkin about the 90's? whats that tribe called quest givin credit to the zulunation. lmao u were not there and neither was your man. scratchin with bob james shoulda went to a humdred other d jays . too bad for bob james he's still the bigger man.. plz google red bull academy and check the d jays . your mans not important.

  • @HIGHPOSTERtown our discussion was about Rob Swift. it was NOT about battle tapes and the origins of hip hop culture. the only reason i even left a reply was because your comment showed that you did not know that rob swift and bob james have been working together for years. he appears on rob's latest album as well. somehow you misunderstood the intent of my message. btw i have a red alert mix from 1984! don't worry, i won't thank you for your failed attempt to "school" me.

  • @unciase1 my issue with u is that ur using the term pioneer or pioneered in the same sentence as ur man rob swift and finishing ur statement with profanity. the issue is in this video he has no class. yes i have the album with bob james and ur man .LIke I said there r 100 other dj s that should have done his 5 second scratch with bob james. at this point i am begining to think u and rob shared cell block 69 together at sing sing. and that the name rob swift was acquired for other reasons.lmao

  • @HIGHPOSTERtown oh no, not you again.

  • check this son.

  • that is some beautiful shit

  • Comment removed

  • that's some beautiful shit right there...

  • @ 0:52 Bob wanted to break into that melodic Nautilus part but Swift interupted him, and instead scratched over that cheesy 'fresh' screechy sound that IMOH was not the right choice for this jam...he could've picked something more mellow that fits Bob's laid back melodies ... or maybe just some bass drum scratch giving Bob the respect on stage instead of taking the lead with that scratch.

but nevermind that, still good effort tho, I guess they were jamming, seems like it wasn't much planned

    THX

  • Yep I agree, but Rob Swift is an unthankful bastard. BOB JAMES contributed a lot to the hiphop culture and he doesn't even thank him or introduce him to the audience. He's a pure bred bastard prick!

  • @SawFan08

i don't think you know what you're talking about at all. rob's always given credit to the masters.

  • @unciase1 u can kiss my ass after you get school about hip hop from red alert ... just google red bull academy / red alert. watch the video or read the archives. no thanks needed for schooling you. we can talk about battle tapes later. you do know what those are right ? lmao

  • Is it really about the competition or great musicians working to make music for us? Just enjoy it. Both are BOSS!

  • I'm a 44 yr old hip hop head. Big time Rob just shits on Bob James. Oh my God this fool should bow down.

  • 1:08 (Nautlius), great fillin by Bob James! Rob Swift screwed it up. Bob James still the man!

  • Bob James walked away w/ the Crown if there ever was one availible!

  • The problem with rob swift is he doesn't know what it was in the begining of hip hop to have to search through crates with millions of tunes and listen to records just to find the break beat . A break beat could be 3 seconds like the begining of bob james' take to the marty gras . Bob james was always garanteed to have a break beat in his tunes. This kid is new school and he is just reaping the benefits of those djays that listen to many albums hunting for the funk and essence of hip hop.

  • Wow...no man-hug or even a handshake at the end? That's not even natural....

  • @HIGHPOSTERtown

Rob's musical output may be newschool,

but the man is almost around 40 yrs old. Gotta acknowledge, that he started very early

and knows everything about breaks and references. I mean... you know Rob's record off of Stones Throw

where he mixes that dope shit from way back. He defo knows some history. He's always been the humble dude to look up to. AND will be. Period.

  • @AlucsBrand yes, rob swift made a name for himself in hip hop (as did vanilla ice and mc hammer.) but that does'nt mean at the end of this video rob swift forgot good etiquette.

  • rob done a track with him beat juggling the bridge by b.d.p and someone playing piano over top not sure if it was bob james or not ? but that was dope this aint as good imo

  • YO This guy gotta show more love to bob james then he does at the end. I grew up in the NYC at zulunation jams back in the day, It is obvious rob swift does not know the importance of bob james' music to the hip hop culture. next time this brother better make it all about Mr bob james

  • Word... that was kinda awkward... Bob James birthed way too many hip hop classics, not to mention his own classics... He was being the gentleman and knows how to end a show with respect and dignity... Rob Swift just kinda ignored it all and moved to the next thing... Kinda made me sad... I love Bob James!

  • HIGHPOSTERtown - You got is SOOOO RIGHT. I just lost ALL respect for Rob Swift after seeing this. His selection to cut totally distracted from the Living Legend, Bob James. It was the worst possible cacophony, when he could have taken some piano tones, or bass, or drums, and made a classic. He totally f=ed up this opportunity. Shame on you Rob Swift. I hope you redeem yourself, cause you used to be my main dog.

  • OK, my bad... i commented before listening to the whole thing... some of it was a little dope, but STILL, overall Rob and the other sucka ass DJ licked arse.

  • @HIGHPOSTERtown

rob swift has been around for a looooong time. him and the executioners were one of the first turntablist crews to get famous back in the 90's. they pioneered a lot of shit. i've read interviews with him over 15 yrs ago giving credit to bob james. you're just talking a bunch of shit.

  • Great!!

  • YOO! THIS IS TOO FRESH!! this made me smile when i heard this

  • is that fat lump in the back ground kuttin kandi ?

  • i dont know why people feel a need to just diss Kandice on her weight. shes always been a really nice person and has always taken an active role in supporting young women in hiphop and scratch.

  • THIS IS THE CLASSIC

  • yah I agree with Heliobranco , its even better if I replace Rob swift & I do the skratches. lol... just kidding... put some violine & horns to make some harmony..

  • WICKED!!!!!

  • Rob Swift is a good turntablist...but Bob James is a huge musician...Rob don´t feel the gig like Bob feel... to much scratches over the same beat....after all, it´s a very good musical experiment...I think Rob´s need to search new type of effects to scratch it...this "ooooohhh" is very used and sound little boring....

  • A very cool mixery of styles !!! Respect !!!

  • wow man, cool,

this was a dope jam, Respekt!

Bob James is like a living legend.
