would it be possible to have the i-pod in white (like the old ads) without creating a duplicate layer? i have a green screen and final cut pro, if that helps...
@WEEMAN725 It's possible but would be extremely, extremely time consuming and I'm not even sure what the best way to go about it would be other than using a white mask and moving it so it's over only the headphones in every individual frame =/
See those tutorials on how to make lightsabers for what I believe is probably a similar technique. Probably better ways of doing this though.
I won't go over the basics of greenscreening etc. as theres obviously loads of tutorials on that, but for the silhouette effect its actually very simple: just add the "sepia" video filter to your clip and change the colour settings until its pure black. Easy!
Just adjust your chroma settings to get the level of sharpness you want.
Let me know if you have any other questions, thanks for watching =]

@WEEMAN725 well, if you've got the headphones colored a specific neon color - like green - it's possible, using the same trick as with greenscreen...

@WEEMAN725 if you have the ipod and earbuds in a random colour that will not contradict any other colours and key out that.

I think it looks suprisingly well with the rough silhouette.

Thanks, I might actually re-do it or a similar one at some stage to see how much sharper I can get it, but yeah it could've been worse.
