@mitsukipuki Not at all, but if the top part (around the hole) dries out and starts getting burnt it will. You just have to peel out the hole bigger or take the top off and leave it.
@7firzan Most likely there was too much 'wet' left from taking it off the orange. Let it dry out a little, then get som oil on it and try that (that was part of the problem in the video with getting it to light)
@JimJamTehJellyMan I have tried to use veggie oil twice now to no effect. I think the olive is best, but still need to try some other oil options (peanut, sunflower, etc). Also will try some alcohol.
@Sup3rFLy12 One of my first ones lasted over 3 hours, probably with 1+3/4 oz of oil. The one in the vid lasted over two and I put it out, using just over 1 oz. The 'wick' length and thickness varies and will cause burn time to vary as well.
@TiedyemansVideos Well, anything utilizing flame is a fire hazard, even more so anything that uses oil (be it olive or lamp), alcohol or coleman fuel as a fuel source.
@chickenbonewatt Not only that, but the peel of an orange contains a very flammable oil. I've burned them in my wood stove and the burst into flame long before they're even dry.
@TiedyemansVideos Now that is interesting knowledge I had no idea about. Don't you think the oil would end up sucked up the wick? And I have cooked the crap out of the top peel without issue, but now I will be far more likely to pull it away. Personally, I always keep it well away from everything just in case anyway. Thank you sir!!!
@chickenbonewatt I don't know if the orange oil would transfer through to the inside of the peel. I just know that it's in the outside of the peel and it's highly flammable. At rock concerts we would take pieces of orange peel and hold it up to a lighter and squeeze it. The resulting fireball is impressive!

@hiddenmaster11 Not sure. I just tried to get one lit with that, but it wasn't the best attempt anyway. I think the Olive oil has a way better burning, but it is something I am looking into making work if I can. (Ran out of oranges)
@xlxLoixlx I do not know. I am going to try it with some other oils as soon as I get more oranges, but as long as it is a flammable substance it should.
@iJazzieJazz That's a damn good question, and I have no idea. I guess it would work with any oil that will burn/fuel a burning wick. I will have to try it with other oils and maybe some alocohol.
@debraskent I had trouble with the one in the video. If you let it dry out for about an hour or so, that little 'wick' will be easier to light. ( I never wait due to impatience)
@seabury Not much, but because you just used fresh peel you get a little orange scent. When the hole in the top dries out it starts getting crispy on the edges, so I just peel the hole bigger after an hour or so and go the last bit with no top.
Does it smell bad burning that oil?

I saw posts about this too, I think this is potentially a bad fire hazard.

how long does it last normally?
TheeCoolOne 1 month ago
@TheeCoolOne 1-3 hours, depending on the amount of Olive Oil. I got a 3 hour+ burn my first time off of about 1 and 1/4 ounces (maybe 1 and 1/2).
