  • I am a former re-encctor. I really like your video. It is well done. A great recuiting tool.

  • Lokking at things like this make me extra proud to call myself an Irish man,Ill soon be signing up to the U.s Army, and I do it with my head held high.

  • None other than enemy commander Robert E. Lee bestowed the nickname “The Fighting 69th” on the 69th New York Regiment. Upon hearing that the 69th NY was moving into position to face his troops across the battlefield at Fredericksburg in December of 1862, Lee remarked, “Ah yes, that Fighting 69th.”

  • I just wanted to ask you all a question..

I did see alot of videos about the american civil war-And just wondered..

What can you union men tell me about the 15th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry ?And what role did they play in any outcome? Any big battles? Is it any Reenacting from this regiment also???I hope they arent forgotten.

My great great grandfather ore what you call it was in that regiment.

I would be very happy for good response about this.

  • @SeigSel

The 15th Wisconsin did some hard fighting in the South. A quick Google search will get

you a lot of information about them. They weren't at Gettysburg or likely to be featured in a popular movie, but they were those Boys in Blue who marched hard, fought hard and gave all they had. Be proud of your great great grandfather and his comrades!

  • the 69th ny flags hungs on my wall for my irsh family that fought in rhe civil war

  • @mrmikenotts01 wow really? They are portraying our history, and being irish i am personally offended what a douche

  • this is such bullshite - the irish rioted in massive numbers against the draft; they wanted US citizenship but no fighting (this really is bullshit - read the "Gangs of New York"); why do the irish get such a good press in the US? Some of the worst racists ever (against afro/americans, italians etc - irish cops were notorious for corruption, brutality and racism)

  • @MrMikenotts01 Hard Marching and Hard Fighting, the represented us Celts famously and I am proud of them

  • @MrMikenotts01 You're full of fiction and delusion and wouldn't say this to my face or the faces of my ancesters and walk away under your own power. Get to know some real history Mikie.

  • @MrMikenotts01 You're full of fiction and delusion and wouldn't say this to my face or the faces of my ancesters and walk away under your own power. Get to know some real history WHY the Irish might have rioted Mikie.

  • @MrMikenotts01 These things were true, but it was the times. Don't forget how desperate irish immagrants were, not long in america and fighting to survive after the famine, and the irish were discriminated by the nonothing mentality of the time. But dont forget that these same immigrants made an important contribution in the fight for American unity.

  • Hi YouTube to see a video of the manassas reenactment go to our channel ( srvztube ) or look up Battle of Manassas reenactment 150th anniversary. Comment and subscribe

  • I love this video, it makes me so proud to be a reenactor, this is my favorite reenacting video, speakin of reenacting, is anyone selling a musket?

  • @quillinchase look on gunbroker trust me youll find em

  • A beautiful video, and music, makes me even prouder to be an Irish re-enactor, great to show people who can't figure out why I do it..and you make a wonderful Chamberlain! Jeff Daniels step aside! "Huzza" Capt Scoot Aldrich CoF 42nd Vol Inf "The Old Penn Bucktails"

  • i do not know who disliked this so i hope they do not meet me or ill show them how an Irish man can fight

  • @historyfan1000 Italian, Irish, and polish i would say are the majority.

  • 0:24 the guy on the left looks like Col. Chamberlan

  • @Eddyisrich403 Exactly what I was thinking. But i was thinking as Chamberlain in "Gettysburg" Jeff Daniels

  • @Eddyisrich403 Yeah hes a Colonel too if I'm not mistaken, he has the beard now as well.

  • Are there any reenactor groups following the 27th NY Regiment Volunteers?

  • I enjoy this Video alot, the song is perfect.

    your Johnny Reb Fan

    Pvt. Ryan Townsend

    52nd Georiga Co. I

  • god bless dixie go 24th gerogia

  • What's this song called??

  • I prefer the more sophisticated regular U.S. Army units.

  • Damn Irish get way too much credit..

  • whats this song??

  • i wonder wat kinda of bullets if they use any in reenactments

  • @EvilMushroomProd they use paper wadding, we wouldn't shoot each other for real.

  • Comment removed

  • @Br4ndini555 not us, we use rammers and Toilet paper bullets so we get realistic recoil and smoke puffs. don't ask me why. I didn't write it.

  • Comment removed

  • @Br4ndini555 I got no clue , that's just what I was taught!

  • @historyfan1000 hell yea im from mcgreggor clan but im from america raised and all

  • I am a part of the 88th New York who was also a part of the Irish Brigade. :) What was the name of that song

  • 69...hehehe

  • Aye! God Bless The Irish and america!

  • why do they aim up in the air and not striaght

  • @videoww2soldier98 Shooting at an elevated angle is a safety measure. If spectators or other particpants (i.e. "enemy" troops) are nearby, or there are obstacles in the line of fire, reenactors generally fire at an elevated angle. The elevation: (1) reduces the chance that any unanticpated debris in the barrel would be discharged with the blank cartridge, (2) reduces the chance that the blast from the barrel gets too close to anyone, and (3) is a basic courtesy measure.

  • I am proud of my Irish and German and Native America bloodlines so say what you all what cant get me mad or even upset and history is what it is.

  • @IrishGermayNaviteame I'm a Hitz 57 too .... with a little Native American too .... I'm 10th generation MayFlower Desceneant..... Less than 10% of American's can claim to go back that far....

  • Great work with the video. This is the best advertisement for Civil War Reenacting that I've seen yet. It's one thing to read about history or talk about it. It's a totally different experience to go out and participate in living history demonstrations and reenactments like these guys do - It's almost like time travel without the risk.

  • Nice. Whats the Name of the Song?

  • God bless Ireland. (My Mom was Irish....)

  • damed yankee! ha he died because we shot him! wahhhoooooo! yall yankees suck!

  • @redconfederate who won the war agian just want to make sure

  • thousands of irish faught for the south,Charlston was a major drop off point from all over europe. The difference between north and south on this issue was the north forced the Irish to join the army or return to Ireland....the south made it voluntary. You tell me who held the higher moral ground.

  • @stevekon11

Yes, most Irish in the war were drafted, but there were also all volunteer units like the 69th Irish brigade, and many Irish did serve of their own free will.

Also, please don't try to take the moral high ground. The American Civil war was one of our bloodiest and most morally grey wars in our history. It's difficult at times to find any real "good guys" in the war.

  • @OldManRiver54 The higher moral ground comment was just to shed some light on how the Irish were forced to pay more then there share of blood for this war.And how ruthless the north was when it came to filling the ranks.

  • @historyfan1000 The bigest percent of caucasians are of Irish descent in America...

  • God Bless the 69th,Ireland,and EVERYONE who reenacts ANY of the irish companies(north and south). And this is a great video and it's kinda close to my heart because my relatives fought in the 69th Irish Brigade.

  • Guy at :26 on left looks just like Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain.

  • @historyfan1000 Most americans have English-blood...The Irish ur on abt are mostly scotch-irish protestants. Some ppl in new york and boston have Irish blood yeh, but most americans r english.

  • @easynowww According to Wikipedia English-Americans make up 9% of the population. I don't know where you got your statistics from.

  • @easynowww sour grapes

  • @easynowww jealous

  • @easynowww Ugh no, most Americans have Irish blood in em. Only the early Americans have English in em, there is though alot of Americans with English blood, but there is over 32 million Irish-Americans, second largest demographic in the US

  • @IamToopy Erm no lol...Some of the Irish who claim to have Irish-Blood are not Irish at all but wanna be's..Some are Ulster-Scots (Scotch-Irish) protestants..And many Americans said they're simply American, now include them in the Census they would be mostly English & Ulster-Scots! so would out-weigh Irish..Also the decision making in USA is done by English-Protestants and Irish just seem to play second fiddle!. Go to Ireland & learn abt ur culture as USA is mostly based on English culture!

  • @easynowww There is very little Ulster Scots in America compared to the Irish. Like I said 32 million Americans claimed to be Irish-American or of Irish decent, over 15,000 Irish landed in America per day during the Great famine over a span of 10 years. Even with the English Americans and the Ulster Scot Americans combined wouldn't be as much as Irish Americans, it would be close though.

  • @easynowww yes I do know about my culture, my family is from Ulster, my family originates in County Cavan, they then moved to Belfast, they then moved to Canada because of the Great Famine and also religious persecutions from the British invaders, you may be thinking their catholic, they were Presbyterian (Protestant church if you didn't know that). If you want to know more about my family or about Eire's history, please notify me and I will be glad to share.

  • @IamToopy most of these are baptist, presbyterian and not catholic irish.

  • @IamToopy there are also millions of americans with german blood...and irish/german blood such as myself.

  • @stevekon11

German blood, you must be kidding me. I bet there are more Americans withDutch,Irish,Scottish,

French,Spanish and English blood then lowlife nazi germans

  • @TheMrSmissen Yea I just want to make sure I got your name right before WE track it to your address,It dosent matter what blood line the likes of you are from your just a pathetic ignorant piece of pawn scum.People like you dont even deserve to breath......THE AIR, and no Im not going to wast my time with why,you are simply voted off the planet.

  • @TheMrSmissen

According to a recent US Census (1), German Americans account for nearly 17% of the current US population.

The influential group of German immigrants accounts for some of the greatest figures of our age, such as Albert Einstein, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Babe Ruth. Even for those who do not speak German, with a few tips, it can be easy to ...

haha you retarded looser...i guess 20 percent of usa population are nazis then..haha

  • @TheMrSmissen Oh good... you are one of those untaught american bastards who does not know that hitler is dead, german is a democratic state since over 60 years and not every one of us is a nazi... i suppose that we havent got much of them. i am sure the US has a lot more.

  • @easynowww I third of the population of ireland, mostly oppressed irish catholics came to america in the 1800's. Im in neither New York or Boston, but California, and i have catholic irish blood and i know many others that do too

  • this ia a awesome video i would love to do some reenacting but i hear its very expensive

  • this is a aqe

  • Some say the North won the war not because of numbers.....but because they had more irishmen then the south. *From Pennsylvania, God bless the south and Long live the Union*

  • I love this cd good job Joe bringing this music back to life, go 69th N.Y.

  • i would enlist with ya but im not sure you are in Illinois around the Alton area so im outta luck i guess i will have to enlist with another regiment. correct me if i am wrong but do you have to be a certain age to have a musket.

  • @generaltodd2 moast times its 16

  • @generaltodd2 if you look old eghoug u can do what shaggy did in scooby do 1 but with reacting

  • Oh My God the Irish are dicks.

  • @easynowww that's why they are drunk .they lose all the time

  • @easynowww no we are not

  • Well done, I did my senior thesis on the Irish Brigade loved the song as well.

  • whats the song name

  • Im a we bit Irish too and proud of it!

  • How would one be able to find out what unit a relative fought in? My family is from NY and of Irish descent so I have reason to believe that they could have been in this unit. Also possible they were in some other unit entirely. I want find out so I can get into reenacting but I want to be in the same unit as my ancestor.

  • @Paganwarrior2000 You don't have to have any lineage to reenact. Some groups ask for it, but it will most likley never be neccessary. Many people do not have ancestors in the group they fight in. My Great(x4) Grandfather was in the 25th M.A, but I fight for P.A. Anyone with a love of history can join.

if you want to look, and you have a name of the ancestor, try the Civil War Soldier Database.

  • @zrtproductions It's more of that I want to be in the same unit, not that it's required. I've tried the database, but I really have little to go on other than last names and states, so you can imagine how that goes. Especially looking up a name like Murphy in NY. Forget it. No fault of the database though. Thanks for the lead though. I probably will just try joining a local unit even so it's Confederate and my family was Union.

  • @Paganwarrior2000 family tree websites may help, although they can be pricey. Have you tried talking to your older relatives? Your Grandfather of older members? They can also be an invaluable resource. I guarenteen, familes with boys in the union were very, very proud. Older relatives may have heard something. If you send me a private message, and let me know where you are, I could send you the names of some Union groups if that's where you'd rather be.

  • okay, thank you!

  • Awesome video man!

This make me feel sad that I can't join you...I live in Europa

I was wondering, has every 'recruit' really irish blood?

  • David Kincaid does a splendid job witht hisosng and others. He has two CD'S with regard to Irish songs sung during the Civil War by Irish immigrants.

  • Let the irsh live on for ever and yes I am 100 % irsh so never for get the irsh

  • @SuperQuirkE

    You're "irsh"?

  • Great Video and great explanation of the purpose of reenacting.

  • god bless america and ireland forever

  • @shamrockgerry God bless USA, not Ireland.

  • @zipsrule god bless em both

  • ERIN GO BRAGH

  • Reenacting seems like a very expensive hobby. I have a bunch of G.A.R. badges & such that have been handed down in the family. It is in the garage near to the box of my father's sourvenirs from the Phillippines in WWII. Someone from back then must have been in the Civil War. Now I know that troops from my town went to W. Virginia. The 1st volunteer from Ohio took a group of volunteers down there early in the war.

  • Its one of the best things in my life....

  • Seeking any information on the Irish Brigade color lost/captured during the war. We know that the 69th NY lost a "Cream Colored Guidon" at Fredericksburg. The 88th NY lost a guidon as well at Fredericksburg.

We believe the Irish Brigade lost their Brigade Flag as well. It was a McClellan style red/white with (1) in the Center. The Irish Brigade was the first brigade and they fought very bravely. Their dead was found closest to the stonewall at Marye's Heights.

    The Irish fought brave!

  • they also fought bravely when attacking canada in 1866

    ERIN GO BRAGH

  • We are working on ALL colors captured Union and Confederate. It will never come to an end, for there will always be "Another flag".

People will be very surprised on what we have found so far.

God Bless and enjoy the holidays!

  • good video but i still am a confedederate

  • Some may already know but for those that don't, David Kincaid has two CD's of songs from the Irish soldiers. They include 36-page booklets of liner notes and lyrics. The usual web prefix and hauntedfieldmusic and . and com and /Description and . and html

Take out the "and's" and extra spaces for the address (actual address won't post).

  • Awesome video and great pics. This is the best one I've found! Wish we did Civil War battle reenactments here (there are only two small units in the area). Our area is big on Fur Trade.

  • I was a member of the 88th NYVI (second regt Irish Brigade ) re-enactors around 10 years ago.. It was great fun.

  • im a reenactor this is a good video

  • tips for new reenactors: follow the captain/general/commanding officer's orders, dont make a big fool out of urself. and make friends.

  • Great Comment Daniel!

  • That song gives me goosebumps. I even modeled my recruiting video for my reenacting unit after this one. Great pictures!

  • im a guy, i would like some tips on being a soldier,it'd be kinda weird if a guy wanted to wear a dress

  • im going to do a reenactment soon, and im going to be an infantryman, and im 13,im going to see if i can do it,any tips for new reenactors?

  • Another one bites the dust...welcome to be hopelessly addicted and eternally broke.

  • brandi, are you a boy or a girl?....I ask because I have many tips for you as a boy joining the infantry...as a girl I would suggest buying a dress and portraying a 19th centurey young lady...not trying to be a jerk here.

  • @brandini555 most of the time they won't let anyone under the age of 16 be infantry but you could try musician for a few years, it's just as fun

  • Are you guys part of the Mifflin Guard

  • cool!

  • What song is this? Its kick ass

  • Free and Green

  • If any of you reenactors want to defend your position on reenacting look up "real footage of Picketts charge"...Ive been slugging it out a bit on there.

  • yeah, there are a bunch of assholes on that video's comment list that say we reenactors are a bunch of shits who don't have the attention span of a three year old

  • They're the assholes not us reenactors.

  • Great

  • well, well how did I get to this vid again, the video pathway a)irish history and culture is fading fast b)ancient warriors: The Irish-warrios c)The Irish brigade d)....then bang, this vid

and all starting from a few irish anti-immigration vids and the left think it's a conspiracy......the loony left, stark raving mad..

  • 1st NY Light Artillery Reynolds Battery L!

  • ok the kid at 1:55 theres no way he could have a musket he doesnt look over 12 or 13, i thought you had to be 16 to be able to have a musket.

  • no the rule is you have to be OVER 16 to have a musket....just write 16 on a piece of paper and put it in your brogan...just like they did in the Civil War. I belong to the ANV and I know we have strict requirements only because we are insured.

  • The rule is you need to be 16 years old. I was able to when i was 14. As long as you dont act like an ass and get attention drawn to yourself, there should be no problem if your 14 or 15.

  • for what reenacting if it is then yeah u dont want to be an ass

  • im 13 and i want to give it a try,any tips?

  • send me a pm and i can help u

    BEWARE OF FARBS!!!!!!

  • very good video!

  • im in the 69th New York K company! I love reenacting!

  • Nice video!

    Cheers,

a fifer, 3rd Co. 7th Bat Line Inf. Southern Netherlands (Belgium) 1815

  • This is the Grand Army who helped win the "Right of Secession" from King George and then denied it to their fellow countrymen in the Southern States. Damn them all....

  • Good stuff

  • hey irish men look on youtube for saint patricks battalion....

  • What many fail to realize is the South had more pre-Dominant United Kingdom and European Influence than any other land area in the US. The Southern accent is a Direct Descendant of the British accent of the West Country of England. It is just trickling down due to the Industrialization and Influence of the North.,

  • Why reenact ? 1st of all we need more people , 2 it's fun as hell, 3 you'll make more freinds!

I do WWII reenacting as a geman but all reenacting is fun !

  • there should be an irish regiment or brigade in the modern U.S army

it would be one ass-kicking unit

  • lol gotcha sherriff......Frankie the kid lol

  • @waaeaa

There is ... the 69th Infantry of the NY Army National Guard is a direct decendent of the regiment shown in the video

  • Nice Video!

  • Finally, David Kincaid's melodic voice records the Irish experience during Civil War History.

    Salute !

  • Awesome ad! Very well done very entertaining!

    My compliments!

    Matt Klein

    Cpl 8th Georgia

  • whats the name of this song and whos it by?

  • Free and Green, by David Kincaid. GREAT CD, highly recomend it!

  • Finally, a clear melodic voice pipes up and sings for Ireland. Many thanks to David Kincaid for brining in History home.

  • The aurthor removed my comment. The shame of it all.

  • Nice

  • ERIN GO BRAGH!!!!!

  • where do you join

  • depends where u live? msg me and i can give u further reenacting detials.

  • That forage cap is a goofy looking cover. The rest is outstanding. WELL DONE !

  • i agree 100% they need slouch or hardees like here in tennessee

  • The standard Union cover, either the kepi or the forage cover, reamined standard issue. Some Michigan Regiments liked the Hardee. This cover gave a smart appearance; however, it almost looked like it belonged on a parade filed with a dress uniform.

  • excuse me sr the main cover and campign hat of the army of the tennessee and cumberland was the army hat AKA hardee hats look at the picture of federal troops at missionary ridge 90% were wearing hardee hats most though were modified

  • The main US issue hat was a Forage cap. Some people bought kepis, another type. Some units like the iron brigade were issued hardee hats. The south

    1. Civilian clothes were encouraged by the sothern governament.

    2. The south would have their troops pay for issued stuff, which was a CHOICE.

    3. The souths hats were usualy civillian, but would get so worn out that they whould slouch, thus giving the name "slouch hat".

  • the US Army of The Cumberland and the US Army of The Tennessee main cover was the hardee hat in the west theater

  • enen though im with the 50th tennessee i do play as the 10th tennessee "THE SONS OF ERIN"

  • awesome job on it ERIN GO BRAGH!!!!!

  • Erin go bragh! I served next to your unit many a time!

  • Love the movie, and the music is gorgeous! :D

  • ERIN GO BRACH you Irish Lads

  • Great Job Joe!!! Makes me want to grab my 42 and burn some powder :)
