I used to watch this sign-off every night when I was little and I would sing along with the song. We had WNJT-Channel 52 in my area. The sunset ending was also featured on our sign-offs.
I think we still have this on videotape somewhere.
i can remember staying in wildwood as a child during the summer and i would listen to this song every night while i waited for this channel to switch over to a channel called the box which showed music videos. one of my happiest childhood memories
Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who used to stay up just to watch this. I remember I was 15 years old at gradma's house and she only had an old UHF/VHF television and I would wait for this song before going to bed. I miss the days when stations used to sign off. These days everything is 24/7 and TV is no exception. Thanks for posting (and for memories).
This one is missing the gold NJN logo. It would sit in the corner of the screen, and then at the sunset scene at the end it would move to the center and expand to fill the screen. Still a nice song and video, though!
Yep! Charlie is one of my best friends. We worked at NJN until he retired last year. He got WCSD from the school district and that station is resposible for MANY people in the radio and TV business. Steve Capus, Pres. of NBC News is one of them, along with George Weber from WABC News and Ray Koob at WMGK. We all started together at WCSD and it was a great era in our lives. Used to drink and play softball against other stations back then. Charlie owns a network of Christian Stations now(WBYO).
At the end of this song on the last note, I used to interupt the signal w/2 quick hits as a way to say "goodnight" to my girlfriend (now wife) living in Wildwood at the beach when I was on duty in Trenton at the end of the broadcast day. We had a long distance relationship then and only saw each other on weekends. I always wondered if anyone noticed and nobody from NJN ever caught it. Around 1997/98 I did this on the WNJS feed which served S. Jersey. She would sit up and wait for my 2 "flashes".
I HAD to watch it, hoping that NJN would sign off in time for Comedy Central to take over and the start of the midnight MST3K. Needless to say I saw this a lot, and often at the expense of the first segment.

I knew the engineer of WNJS. His initals were C.L. and he owned WCSD-FM in Warminster. I worked on that station.
