I like the idea behind this wheel, and though the concept at first sounds like ikt may have flaws in it. I think I would have to test them before I gave an opinion, also I like the go green and recycle for a discount.
Not enough urethane. I've shaved a 85mm set of wheels down to 75mm in less than one day. There doesn't seem to be enough urethane to flex and grip corners very well either. Also, think about safety slides; I'd give that 5 safety slides tops. Not to mention how it would become completely useless after inevitably flat-spotting.
They would heat up quickly as well and would wear out far to fast to be worth the money. I bet I could kill these wheels in less than an hour just from pulling stand-ups down a hill. Personally, I wouldn't ride these wheels.
Uh huh... and what about the durability... Usually a core is on the inside of the wheel and it somewhat holds the urethane in place, and with this design I don't see anywhere where the urethane is held in place securely. Is it glued there or is that issue being taken care of..?
No good. Works only if you go straight. What will happen for slides. speed checks, drifts at high speed? You will end up buying new wheels daily. Inorder for it to work somewhat, the urethane will have to be 1 inch thick and hope it does not come off when doing any of the stuff I mention above. I rather cone my wheels. I will save money buy not buying wheels so often and I will feel more safe.
this idea sounds good but it probably woundnt work because the urethane is so close to the core it would make the wheel incredibly hard and awful for corners. but if you found a perfectly strait and smooth road it would work.
The idea behind the wheel was the core would be made of hard ABS plastic which could then be recycled when the soft outer urethane was worn out, its just a concept but if they ever were made there could be a recycle scheme, so u buy the wheels when the outer wears out u take the cores back to the shop and get a new pair for a discounted price then the ABS core could be melted down and made into new wheels.
solving the problem of having to ride your wheels into tiny cones or chucking away perfectly good material. also the solid core means you could run super soft outer urethane for loads of grip while the solid core would stop the warping which makes soft wheels slow. Cheers for the view n the comment
But, longboard wheels get grip from having soft lips that flex when you get a deep carve or fast turn going on. These don't have that, even if you put a soft compound layer on the surface it still wouldn't have that grip while carving...
yea i get get what your saying i ride Avilla reds 75mm so theve got the soft edges. But this concept was more for straight line speed like the kryptonic 80mm's. The Avlillas are pritty slow because they compress out of shape making the riding patch flat the hub in this concept wold stop most of that compression

maybe you could have replasable urathane part

It's a cool design nonetheless. I just see no practicality in it save for riding in a straight line with no sliding whatsoever.

Very nice concept/design.

that would be horrible you'd core em in a day

that would be a rough ride with such a thin layer of urethane. you'd be able to geel every grain of sand you roll over.

@pohmd Why not just keep the inside plastic and re-coat it with urethane?
