it always seemed to me like this show never had any defined start and end between pieces. that, or the opener really was a wicked three minutes. must have been hell to march.
well, if they won in 88, then they prolly wouldnt have played phantom of the opera again in 89, and 89 was the best show ever, so i guess it all worked out when they came in second
@Shishigashira8 You're welcome! Don't be upset when I tell you that the judges knew they blew it so they gave SCV the championship in 1989 when Phantom was the better corps.
@Shishigashira8 I have to agree with joshpr. Though, in addition to my previous post, I didn't march SCV the next year. I marched Cavies... to be tormented all the next year by PR...except once!
I've been a music teacher for over 25 years. I was at this performance. It is to this day, one of the best perfomances I have ever had the pleasure of watching. I pray that Gail Royer can see these comment from beyond. What a great visionary he was
This was an awesome show by one of the many awesome corps competing that night. This was the first DCI competition I attended in person. Hope to catch them in Orlando in the summer of 2008.
TBrass79 What an excellent corp and sound.I could watch this show 100 times, and still get goose bumps! I only wish I coulda been there in person. The victory performance a year later in K.C. is just as great amen!
Man this was the most Awesome show on the Planet at that time! I was in High School in Dadeville, AL and attended the show per our Magnificient Band Director Mr. Barry Reed! We also marched Phantom of The Opera In '89 and won numerous awards! Thanks for the inspiration SCV! Kevin Goodman in Atlanta!
Wow to belive that the sound that was made on that field will never be made there again. SCV just sent chills down my back. Wow. Being born in 90 makes me sad that I missed all this great music being played in Alabama. More then likely Championship want be held again in a football supporting state.

One of the most spine tingling shows I have witnessed in drum corps! Back when the horns actually had the melody line. Nice camera work.

Drum corps are freakin scary to listen to when they're standing still. It's amazing to think they can do this marching, too.
