loved this game. detroit had us beat in the shootout with all of those flashy moves then we turned around and slapped them in the face. great game though

@Brettwbeyer14 It depends on your definition of struggle. If you recall, everyone said the Red Wings were "struggling" in 2009-10 after they won the Cup and then returned to the Finals. They struggled to 102 points, 5th place, and the second round of the playoffs. We just expect a lot in Detroit though. Chicago struggled to make the playoffs and only did because the Stars got upset the last day of the season. Both teams "struggled," but we just expect more out of the Big Red Machine.

This really speaks volume for the skill Niemi has. The fact that it took that much effort to beat the guy in the shootout really says something. I mean look at the other end how all the hawks players had to do was toss the puck in the net and skate off. Then a wing player has to come up with something fancy and over the top....it was only a matter of time before the wings ran out of ideas on this shootout.
Not only was Datsyuk's goal amazing, but Bertuzzi owned Niemi on his shootout goal too! Even though the wings lost it this night, I will never forget those goals! Amazing how easy they make it look.
Howard gives up to many goals. Wings need a top goalie and they will be unstoppable. Great organization and great team.. Even though one is not a fan, you got to admit, they know what they are doing over there.

I'm not a Wings fan; but I think everyone can agree that the Wings are the smartest organization in the league; from management to players...they have a real shot at winning the cup this year, but we all know they'll have an off year...and yes it might be because of their age, but what makes this management so genius, is they'll find a way to get right back in it; so that the off year will seem like a hiccup. The Wings are the type of team that wont EVER have to rebuild, which is pretty amazing
Actually the wings are coming up on rebuilding time. Their core is coming up to retirement. They are trying ot rebuild before they lose it. As far as wings having a shot, well its to early to tell, I'd say they are top 10, but I'm not sure I put them as favorites. Last years playoffs showed a lot, and injuries last year I think will become a problem this year. Thats what age does to you. Its going to be a tough Central as well, so thats not going to do them any favors.

The fact that they will risk drafting Europeans (Ovechkin, Backstrom and Semin show young European players the opportunity for prestige in the NHL) which many other teams are afraid to do gives them a huge advantage

Detroit could win another cup if their goaltending didn't fail on them. Osgood putting up the worst numbers of his career, and Howard choking in the playoffs, giving up 3-4 goals every game.
@razorslice17 He was a rookie. Hopefully he will do better next year with a little more experience. I remember when Ozzie was garbage and lost it for them in the '94 or '95 playoffs against SJ. He's young, he will come around.

I'm not a Wings fan; but I think everyone can agree that the Wings are the smartest organization in the league; from management to players...they have a real shot at winning the cup this year, but we all know they'll have an off year...and yes it might be because of their age, but what makes this management so genius, is they'll find a way to get right back in it; so that the off year will seem like a hiccup. The Wings are the type of team that wont EVER have to rebuild, which is pretty amazing

Actually the wings are coming up on rebuilding time. Their core is coming up to retirement. They are trying ot rebuild before they lose it. As far as wings having a shot, well its to early to tell, I'd say they are top 10, but I'm not sure I put them as favorites. Last years playoffs showed a lot, and injuries last year I think will become a problem this year. Thats what age does to you. Its going to be a tough Central as well, so thats not going to do them any favors.

@thecolourblue100 im more impressed by the Capitals at this point. They have their next 3 generations of players already drafted. The fact that they will risk drafting Europeans (Ovechkin, Backstrom and Semin show young European players the opportunity for prestige in the NHL) which many other teams are afraid to do gives them a huge advantage

@thecolourblue100 ya dude I completely i agree ken holland should be a finalsists for gm of the year alot because he picks up all the 3rd and 4rth line players that they need to fix up there team every season along with the rapids are filled with talent that will all be ready to come up when they need it to along with goalies like hasek osgood and now howard coming in to fill the void, will maybe take a year of quarter final elimination in the next 5 seasons but i dnt see them missing playoffs

Detroit could win another cup if their goaltending didn't fail on them. Osgood putting up the worst numbers of his career, and Howard choking in the playoffs, giving up 3-4 goals every game.
