Well, im only 14, And I love all those comments. I Thought, I was the only one with this age who's listening to Progressive Rock. All of my friends are listening to guys like Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars. Well, they asked me if I knew them. I said no. They laughed out me loud.. It's not a problem anyway. I asked them if they knew bands like Porcupine Tree, The Pineapple Thief or Blackfield. Their answer: 'No..' I thought: 'Noobs..' This kind of music is more interested than music about only love
@MrSkyrimWalkthroughs All those "pop love songs" are a disguise for the mental control. The only reason why these kind of bands are not known is because music is controlled for corporations and there is no so much space for good music like it used to be 30 years ago.
Remember that good music is usually written by bleeding souls.
I dont give a shit, to be honest. I love this music, and im proud to listen this, even though most kids in my class think this music sucks... well most of them only know shit like dubstep and probably never even heard of the term "progressive rock"
just hold on to your music taste m8, dont follow "main river" if you dont really want to, but be original and proud of being one of the smaller "side rivers";)

@cornishpastie9 loool it's not just my eyes it's my ears, if you load up a music video and listen to it in 240 or 360, and then listen in 720, there's a huge difference

@TheVideoMixxer No but the priests and their great computers now control everything from the books we read to the songs we sing. I recently found a strange device that gives foreign sound when I touch it. Now I intend to assume control
@gogolplex74 The reason both those bands are so good is that they are both English (of course,) but they also survived the 90's. Radiohead is so adaptable they could literally do anything at anytime, and Porcupine Tree brought a really powerful psychedelic rock influence to the prog-rock scene that was emerging again around that time. Transcendental bands, as well as my two all-time favorites.
I think this song's about how much technology has already and will change our lives in the future and how it will eventually take the 'feeling' away from life. For example: the old people were looking through photo albums when the teenagers just had their digital cameras, and the old people were listening to vinyl records when the teenagers had their iPods. It's scary how fast technology advances. I myself stick to vinyl records and CDs. It's good to see a good band writing a song about this.
Personally, i love good music like this. now stop arguing over bands equally as talented as each other and embrace this wondrous thing called 'music'.

@BRICKsauce They recorded the Nil Recurring songs during the Fear sessions; the songs were originally going to be on a second disk on the album (like The Incident has) but they decided to release them separately. I think I read somewhere that Normal was written before (and influenced) Sentimental.

@skateNappreciate: I was into bands like slowdive, primus, faith no more, helmet, fugazi, flaming lips, Radiohead metal bands like slayer, pantera, sepultura (fear factory is my fav. metal band). still love these bands and some of them rubbed off on people around me and some of the "grunge"" bands grew on me too. i empathize with you in the sense that it seems with more and more that even the bigger acts pushed by industry are getting worse, but then again each generation have their complaints
@skateNappreciate: There are some good bands that have come out in the past 10 yrs or so that are really good and don't get recognition. like wolf parade, my morning jacket, band of horses, deer tick, sigur ros, pure reason revolution, black keys, interpol, mogwai, mars volta, secret machines, zombi, tv on the radio. just to name a few. I remember in the early 90's when i was in middle school the "grunge" bands came out i wasn't crazy about them cuz there were bands i liked that people my age...
i played this while with some friends once...and my friend goes and stops the song. He then said "why dont you listen to good music?" and i almost kicked him in the balls.
Wow. I just got turned onto these guys and i think they might be one of my favorite bands next to opeth. Unfortunately before i hadn't heard of these guys i started a band called garbage tree......no copyright infringment inteded....you should check us out though :D

A recent study made in Stanford shows that older people are more emotionally stable and contempt with their lives. Isn't unexpected and fascinating that happiness actually comes when less expectations unsettle the mind? Maybe we start looking at the wrong direction when we discover life as teenagers.
Isurus, an original and progressive rock band based in South London, are looking for a vocalist. We have a professionally equipped studio. Currently, we are a guitarist, bassist, and drummer and are looking for a likeminded singer to complete our lineup - someone versatile with a great voice (think Maynard James Keenan, Mike Patton, James Labrie, etc).
Nil Recuring is an amazing EP. The first time I sat down and really listened to it I started realizing that PT had sort of "recycled" lyrics or melodies from FOABP. I find that really interesting and a cool concept. Love Nil Recuring and LOVE PT!
Porcupine Tree and Opeth are my 2 favourite bands. And it just happens that they are all good friends. Please do a double tour and come to Seattle. I will kill something for you to do that.
People need to listen to good music. I think my generation likes dumb music (rap, hardcore, mainstream pop, etc) because it's simple and catchy. There is no musical value whatsoever.
People that are more immature listen to rap and hardcore, and I think it's because it sounds simple and the rhyming of rap makes them feel comfortable, as I'm sure they were read or heard nursery rhymes and books when they were children.
@iPreppieWheat you're making too black and white. porcupine tree is one of my favorite bands, but I also like some hip-hop. you just sound really pretentious and close minded when you put down other genres. and also when you say that people who like rap were read nursery rhymes and that's why they like rap. what are you, 12 years old? that's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.
Now what I really want to know is why fake music like justin bieber is at the forefront of today and genious music like this is underground... this music and the whole of progressive rock is way better than any other genre out there
@Jav0889 Thanks for that info. Both of the songs are really amazing. Porcupine is awesome like that and don't give up on thier songs if they don't fit on a CD.
@SkateNappreciate: That is so true. Also Progressive Rock is awesome. What most of us teens like now are soooo stupid. But it gives people who know better something to make fun of. XD
i grew up in the 90's, and i can honestly say that every person born from like... 1996 and up, is being raised with garbage. it really sucks. like i dont blame kids for liking retarded ass Lady Gaga because they dont know better, u know?
@skateNappreciate well you can't say that EVERY person born up from 96 is raised with shit......the ones that worship Mtv and listen to whatever cheesy public pop radio stations shove down their throat yeah....but kids that listen to Alternative, Metal, and hardcore are doin just fine!!
@skateNappreciate Amen, however, I was born in 92 and even then i grew up (and am still growing up with now) absolute bullshit...I wasn't old enough to enjoy music until all the good stuff had been and gone :( such a tragedy.
@skateNappreciate yeah I know! I was born in 1995 and all I can tell you is that about every person I know (that's my age) like that commercial garbage that they call ''music'' but well there is not much we can do but to keep hearing Porcupine Tree :P or Opeth...or Dream Theater...or Katatonia....or Riverside...haha what ever that is REAL MUSIC
@skateNappreciate yeah I know! I was born in 1995 and all I can tell you is that about every person I know (that's my age) like that commercial garbage that they call ''music'' but well there is not much we can do but to keep hearing Porcupine Tree ...or Opeth...or Dream Theater...or Katatonia....or Riverside...haha you know...REAL MUSIC XD
@skateNappreciate Well I was born in the mid 80s, and i can say the older music is better... But you do know that people in the 60s-70s saw the 80s as garbage right? Truth be told, the 80s were pretty shit compared to the 60s. Music in the 90s is just a phase, like all others, and to call it garbage would be quite a narrow minded view. Who are you to say what is garbage if it is popular?
@firebirdca2066 give me a break. little girls look up to that stupid bitch like shes the best thing since fuckin sliced bread, i find lady gaga to be the worst influence imaginable for kids. it wasnt like that in the 80's, it was hair bands who atleast put some effort music. now its just stupid hip hop talking about being a playa and dumbshit like that, and pop music talking about love in the same exact way the song before did, but toned down to the max.
@skateNappreciate Firstly, You do know that is just a change of thought? Madonna was looked at the same way in her day. Moreover, your original comment basically insinuated that ALL music now-a-days is bad. That, again, is a narrow minded view. There are many of artists out there that have talent, are doing well for themselves, and are very popular even amongst older generations. Furthermore, Lady Gaga is far from the worst influence. Britney spears and pretty much every female singer of the era
@firebirdca2066 my mistake, i meant to say everything thats easily accessible (mainstream music) is garbage. yea i know, but kids in general dont know, so they just turn on the radio and whatevers playing is whats "good". i think lady gaga is a really bad influence, im not completely sure which song it is, but she a video for it where shes liking dancing with dudes and dryhumping the shit out of them and making it look like shes getting raped, its pretty bad. i was blown away that it was allowed
I'll keep this as on-topic as possible (we are on a progressive video), but for Metal, the 90s were killer. The beginning of Opeth, and Death's progressive albums. just to name a few
I'll keep this as on-topic as possible (we are on a progressive video), but for Metal, the 90s were killer. The beginning of Progressive Metal band Opeth, and Death's progressive albums.
@skateNappreciate was born in 1996 n i know this band n my little bro knows them too n theres soo super sexyy man. but i do get ur point tht the new music is crap but the only good bands in the 90's are radiohead and nirvana
@skateNappreciate i'm lucky i was born in 1995... i still get to listen to these great bands like porcupine tree and opeth :P although i'm the only one in our school who listens to this kind of music...
@skateNappreciate there are more people in this world that are music listeners than music lovers. music listeners usually just listen to music because they have ulterior motives like a) they listen to it because is popular or b) because they want to fit in a certain group. they are not like us who listen to music because we like to be stimulated, challenged, inspired and moved by it. music now its more manufactured to sell the image of the artist. its been like this since the 80s
@skateNappreciate 13 and loving good music dude! there are lots of people like me, most of my school are people who have good taste in music such as stuff from jazz to funk to heavy metal and evrything in between. Some of us do no better...
@skateNappreciate fuck, i know dude. its so fucking depreesing 99% of the ppl at my school are into mainstream shit they call music such as ugh i dont feel like saying their names. prolly cuz its the highest toprated school of CA, msjhs. fucking hate my school
@ninjaxhayabusa Thats amazing, omg you're only thirteen!!! You must be much more mature and intelligent than your peers. You go out there and rape life man, kick it in the ass!
@ninjaxhayabusa Nobody cares. See, the kind people in your age group who listen to mainstream crap have and always will always exist. There's no new grande influx of such people. There's better music than mainstream in every decade. Fact of the matter is, some people take to music seriously and emotionally, and others could absolutely care less and just want something to listen to; they don't care to explore anything new not because they're dumb, but simply because it's not their thing.
@skateNappreciate I don't think that's true. I was born in 1995 and i my favorite bands are Iron Maiden, Pantera and Dream Theater. Of course it would've been awesome to grow up in the 80's-90's, but then i would miss growing up on awesome bands such as Alter Bridge, Kamelot, Disturbed, and much much more.
@skateNappreciate Actually it's not the raising nor the parents the problem. No, it's more like a technology and society, social kinda thing. Nevertheless a very interesting subject
@skateNappreciate it's funny, I was born in 1996. I hate how almost my entire grade just listens to lady gaga, justin bieber, kesha, etc. It's just so simple and uncreative. I just don't see how it could still be interesting to listen to after a few times.
@Emybookworm This is like an alternative version of Sentimental. The four tracks of the Nil Recurring EP were songs which didn't fit in the Fear of a Blank Planet album, so SW decided to release them in another record.
@Emybookworm The chorus in "Normal" is musically very similar to the chorus in "Sentimental" since the latter is a further development of the former. The lyrics of both songs contain a response to each other: while the last verse on "Normal" says "Wish I was old and a little sentimental", the first verse on "Sentimental" speaks "I never wanna be old and I don't want dependence". The song has also a lyrical reference to the song "Anesthetize" from Fear of a Blank Planet. Thank wiki for this...
I am always hearing good things about this band , i would like to get to know them more, which album is a good one to buy first? As probably with most bands some albums are more accessible than others........
Great song & video!!!

Yes, this track is the smaller sibling to sentimental. Nill Recurring makes a perfect companion piece to FOABP.

People need to listen to good music. I think my generation likes dumb music (rap, hardcore, mainstream pop, etc) because it's simple and catchy. There is no musical value whatsoever.
People that are more immature listen to rap and hardcore, and I think it's because it sounds simple and the rhyming of rap makes them feel comfortable, as I'm sure they were read or heard nursery rhymes and books when they were children.
iPreppieWheat 1 year ago
@iPreppieWheat you're making too black and white. porcupine tree is one of my favorite bands, but I also like some hip-hop. you just sound really pretentious and close minded when you put down other genres. and also when you say that people who like rap were read nursery rhymes and that's why they like rap. what are you, 12 years old? that's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

Now what I really want to know is why fake music like justin bieber is at the forefront of today and genious music like this is underground... this music and the whole of progressive rock is way better than any other genre out there

Who are you to say what is garbage if it is popular?
firebirdca2066 1 year ago
@firebirdca2066 give me a break. little girls look up to that stupid bitch like shes the best thing since fuckin sliced bread, i find lady gaga to be the worst influence imaginable for kids. it wasnt like that in the 80's, it was hair bands who atleast put some effort music. now its just stupid hip hop talking about being a playa and dumbshit like that, and pop music talking about love in the same exact way the song before did, but toned down to the max.
im the least narrow minded person ever
skateNappreciate 1 year ago
@skateNappreciate Firstly, You do know that is just a change of thought? Madonna was looked at the same way in her day. Moreover, your original comment basically insinuated that ALL music now-a-days is bad. That, again, is a narrow minded view. There are many of artists out there that have talent, are doing well for themselves, and are very popular even amongst older generations. Furthermore, Lady Gaga is far from the worst influence. Britney spears and pretty much every female singer of the era
firebirdca2066 1 year ago
@firebirdca2066 my mistake, i meant to say everything thats easily accessible (mainstream music) is garbage. yea i know, but kids in general dont know, so they just turn on the radio and whatevers playing is whats "good". i think lady gaga is a really bad influence, im not completely sure which song it is, but she a video for it where shes liking dancing with dudes and dryhumping the shit out of them and making it look like shes getting raped, its pretty bad. i was blown away that it was allowed

MarBoLOL 1 year ago
@skateNappreciate there are more people in this world that are music listeners than music lovers. music listeners usually just listen to music because they have ulterior motives like a) they listen to it because is popular or b) because they want to fit in a certain group. they are not like us who listen to music because we like to be stimulated, challenged, inspired and moved by it. music now its more manufactured to sell the image of the artist. its been like this since the 80s

squadcar2525 9 months ago
@ninjaxhayabusa Nobody cares. See, the kind people in your age group who listen to mainstream crap have and always will always exist. There's no new grande influx of such people. There's better music than mainstream in every decade. Fact of the matter is, some people take to music seriously and emotionally, and others could absolutely care less and just want something to listen to; they don't care to explore anything new not because they're dumb, but simply because it's not their thing.
KoldDude 6 months ago
@skateNappreciate I don't think that's true. I was born in 1995 and i my favorite bands are Iron Maiden, Pantera and Dream Theater. I just heard this song, and I've heard Sentimental (Love it) like two years ago. They both have the same chorus?!! Never knew that.
Emybookworm 1 year ago
@Emybookworm This is like an alternative version of Sentimental. The four tracks of the Nil Recurring EP were songs which didn't fit in the Fear of a Blank Planet album, so SW decided to release them in another record.
Jav0889 1 year ago
@Emybookworm The chorus in "Normal" is musically very similar to the chorus in "Sentimental" since the latter is a further development of the former. The lyrics of both songs contain a response to each other: while the last verse on "Normal" says "Wish I was old and a little sentimental", the first verse on "Sentimental" speaks "I never wanna be old and I don't want dependence". The song has also a lyrical reference to the song "Anesthetize" from Fear of a Blank Planet. Thank wiki for this...
