And IIRC "embryonic stem cells" don't even come from aborted fetuses ANYWAY; they come from either extra embryos from IVF or from cloned embryos; the ones from fetuses I think are called "progenitors" and aren't as useful as actual embryonic stem cells. So the idea that "embryonic stem cells" come from aborted fetuses is pretty ridiculous to begin with.
this video is misleading. Embryos used in stem cell research are only 3-5 days old. A cluster of cells about the size of a punctuation mark. An embryo at this stage doesn't have the capacity to care whether it lives or dies.
Here's a question for those who would consider an embryo a human life; if you were in a fertility clinic that was on fire, and there was a child in one corner and a tray of embryos in the other, and you could only save one, which would you save? Remember, if an embryo is a human life, you would be saving more human lives by saving the tray of embryos.
Also, the use of an image of a fetus in the video is extremely misleading. In embryonic stem cell research they use blastocysts, not fetuses, and perhaps if you just look up "blastocyst" on google images you will find a less misleading image for the video.

The picture you use is of a fetus later in development than would necessarily be used for embryonic stem cell research. Embryos at the stage before cell differentiation (which is the particular advantage embryonic has over other forms) wouldn't have reason to be considered to have consciousness, therefore destroying those embryos wouldn't count as killing because you can't inflict death on something that couldn't be considered "alive"

But a more relevant point is that they have a consciousness that they would lose by dying. Embryos do not have a consciousness as such nothing to lose by being destroyed, quite unlike those with diseases ESCR could cure.
Think about it. Consciousness comes from the interaction of neurons in the brain. A 5 day old embryo's cells aren't even specialized yet, (same reason why those cells are so valuable) so how could they be neruons?

And IIRC "embryonic stem cells" don't even come from aborted fetuses ANYWAY; they come from either extra embryos from IVF or from cloned embryos; the ones from fetuses I think are called "progenitors" and aren't as useful as actual embryonic stem cells. this video is misleading. Embryos used in stem cell research are only 3-5 days old. A cluster of cells about the size of a punctuation mark. An embryo at this stage doesn't have the capacity to care whether it lives or dies.

The picture you use is of a fetus later in development than would necessarily be used for embryonic stem cell research. Embryos at the stage before cell differentiation (which is the particular advantage embryonic has over other forms) wouldn't have reason to be considered to have consciousness, therefore destroying those embryos wouldn't count as killing because you can't inflict death on something that couldn't be considered "alive"

By "feel" I didn't mean the sense of touch, I was referring to emotional feelings, like the desire to survive. But a more relevant point is that they have a consciousness that they would lose by dying. Embryos do not have a consciousness as such nothing to lose by being destroyed, quite unlike those with diseases ESCR could cure.

That embryo cell is alive. It is not potentially alive. It IS alive.
Embryonic stem cell research and the cloning that amendment 2 protects has not shown promise except as a gold mine of federal grants.
The stem cell research that Jim Talent supports already has cured people, and has helped people with some 70 maladies such as Parkinsons.

The make of this video happens to be a lot smarter than you I'm sure. Only a small portion has been designated for research by the Government. Republicans don't want their tax dollars to go for embryonic stem cell research when adult stem cell research is better. Private research firms can farm cells all they want...but they are too cheap to pay for it themselves. So that proves you don't know anything about this argument except to repeat the DNC talking points.
