I have to agree with lukeowns. Performing you're not concentrating on talking about yourself. You're acting like someone else. But an award you actually have to be yourself, which a lot of people in Hollywood aren't themselves infont of cameras all the time... since that wouldn't fit our image of who they are.

But you made a good point. We think they'd be able to make good speeches but really improvisation is different than performing with a set script.

I couldn't agree more, but performing is actually different to like, recieving awards. When your performing your concentrating on performing and not the audience, when giving speeches or whatnot it's kind of different, seeing as you have to look at the audience while they clap for you. Filming is different. good point though.

I agree with you on the thought that they don't seem to be able to make a good speech at all. They are just like those pull string toys that say what they are taught to say when they are to say it. It is very obvious that these people need a nanny or something because they don't know how to live a moral life at all...they only do it right (sometimes) on the script. I would quite happily watch the Oscars if the Actors were getting a £20k a year salary like everyone else.

Just like you said, all actors have to do is memeorize speeches. That is basically their job. I would say they add emotion as well, but90 percent of actors suck at that.

interesting thought. truman capote, (author), said that he found actors and actresses (Im guessing mainly hollywood, not sure), to be on the whole not very bright. Kind of wondered how he came to that conclusion, tho he had met many, but I dont doubt it. seems it would take some amount of intelligence to memorize a script & play a character, but they do have the effect of boredom and limit when they 'speak out' on politics, world peace, starvation, (always in another country), etc. (haha)
