Lovely instrument. Keep singing whatever you feel is right for your Countertenor voice. Any suggestions to the contrary are ridiculous. I would suggest that you look for more vocal and textual subtlety in this piece. There are many nuances you could explore if you were to choose. Thomas Quasthoff's performance is a great example of what I mean. His video is on YouTube as well. All the best.

I think this person means with "straight tones" a lack of any vibrato. You need some natural level of vibrato otherwise the tone sounds harsh -- particularly when a man sings in that range.
