  • My Grandad worked at Furnivals in Reddish.

He was responsible for the installation of these machines-get them working on site as far as I can understand it. They were taken from factory to site on a horse and cart in those days.

  • Hey! Fantastic! I ran one of these in the early 1970's. It was slightly bigger than this one, maybe quad crown. We had another flatbed, a George Mann - this had an extra cylinder that could be called into play for offset work. These machines were at Ordnance Survey and were used to print 'County Series' plans. However, we used zinc plates instead of litho-stone.

  • Thanks! Fantastic to find someone else who is actually familiar with these presses. We never actually used stones either, although we have some. The amount of designs we had would need an entire quarry! We think we were probaly one of the first to use zinc plates. We actually have another smaller offset Furnival, c1930, but that has been taken apart and is stored under the stairs!! Will set machine up properly next time,!this video was for our daughter's benefit really.
