I was going to buy some 14500's until I read on CPF that the lith rechargeables should not be fully discharged and that you should avoid running them below a certain voltage level.
Any truth to that?
If so, Lith rechargeables seem like they would be a pain in the ass unless one has lots of time to waste monitoring them.... I can't worry about stuff like that while hiking or camping for a week or 10 days at a time.
@MARINE1146 Over discharging LiON batteries is not an issue if you buy "protected" cells. they have a built in PCB that automatically shuts the battery off before the voltage drops too low (when you have about 10% power left). go check out the battery selection at LightHound, they tell you which cells are protected and which aren't.
Check out any torch with a Cree led chip, they are un--B--lievabley bright. I just got a 1300lm torch that runs from 1 x 14500 batt. They're cheap as chips on Ebay :)
I just got my E03 XML cool tint T6 and my 14500 will be here today so that light cam def handle the huge differance but I guess my question is do u know what the battery runtime on that will be with the 3.7 volt beast?? Cause if it's gunna be like 15-20 min like me Xeno E03 then I wanna buy that 4 sevens and do it :) the worst the battery runtime the better lol that just mean amazing power

Have you tried Titanium Innovations' new lithium primary? I think they call it the 14505. ~3.0V, basically a 14500 but not rechargeable. I'd be interested in seeing how they worked in this.
how does the 14500 affect the runtime? is it still 1.3 hours on the new "medium" mode or more or less? also where can i buy a charger and cant find one.
@abusedbunny I haven't tested the run time yet but you could probably find one on candle power forums. For a charger go to DealExtreme and search for "12594" Sorry I would give you direct links but youtube won't let me.
The CR2 and CR123 battery versions are 180-190 lumens with the same XR-G led, so I would think it should be fine. I think they dial down the turbo mode to 90 as not too drain a normal AA too quickly.
@matt4270 I knew the LED could take the power but my initial concerns were with the driver. I have the mini 123 also, but I like this because I prefer the longer skinner AA to the fatter shorter 123. I'll make a video later to compare the two on output.
4sevens mentions on the website not to run these kinds of cells on your light.
seeing that they do work and it doesn't blow up right away, i suspect the issue is heat sinking.
it seems not to be regulated down to a specific point, and your estimation of 250 lumen is much higher then the 180 that the AA-2 puts out.
i suspect this can kill your light if you leave it on too long.

@Whisper6911 i would suggest the alternative of getting DURACELL CR-V3 packs.
open them up and inside are 2x 3V AA primaries.
3V should be exactly right as the AA-2 runs at 2x 1.5V and i believe it is the same head.

Haha yea no kidding I'm very impressed with the 14500's performance...this my first 14500 light and it is totally worth it..
Thanks for the reply back so fast

@04mach1speed I love small 14500 lights, they seem to defy physics. Nothing like having a search light with you everywhere you go.

@randy25rhoads I haven't tried one but it sounds like it would work
hugo2x 11 months ago
@hugo2x I actually picked up a Mini AA and some of those Titanium Innovations 14505s. It's one damn fine combination.

will this work with the Quark Tactical AA?
roadkill11091974 1 year ago
@roadkill11091974 Yes, it will
hugo2x 1 year ago
@hugo2x Just to clarify because I was curious about the same thing... this will work in the Quark "regular" (not Mini) series AA models as well?
busterbob24 4 months ago
@busterbob24 yes, quark AA regular will accept up to 4.2v, it will therefore accept a 14500 battery.

is there a AAA version of this battery?
humanentropy 1 year ago
@humanentropy yes, its a 10440. I think you can find them on LIGHTHOUND's website
hugo2x 1 year ago
That would be awesome to have with one of the warm LED versions of that since they're a little dimmer than the normal ones anyway. Great vid.

I see you have some trustfire 14500's on the table. Do they work well with the quark mini or are they too long?

@yoyoguy161 the trustfire's are too long

Uber wicked ! I've got the Preon 2 for my edc. Just ordered the Quark MiNi AA² . Can I run two 14500s in it ?
tybeejeffro 1 year ago
@tybeejeffro I don't think so, but with 2 NIMH batteries you will have very good consistent brightness
hugo2x 1 year ago
@hugo2x also ordered a Preon I body to go in my Leatherman sheath. Would a 10440 work in the same way?
tybeejeffro 1 year ago
@tybeejeffro Sorry, I don't know. You could do some research on Candlepowerforums.
hugo2x 1 year ago
@tybeejeffro Absolutely NOT.
That would do 8,4 V at the start ( Li-ions does 4,2 V off the charger) and will fry your LED. Don't even try to.

Those 14500 cells are sick and I forgot to mention that in the review...I just linked your video here on it though to clarify. Great job!
