@Osclala There are some dual-core Atom CPUs with 2 GB of RAM, but you're moving out of netbook territory then and into laptop territory. Or are you talking about upgrading your current netbook? No, that's not possible.
@ThoughtsMedia HP Mini 210-3015 comes with Intel® Atom™ N570 cpu (dual-core) and 2gb DDR3 ram, still being a netbook. In fact, it is the one I'm planning to buy.
@theblindasshole1 I don't do shopping for people, sorry. :-) Figure out what matters most to you (size, battery life, performance, etc.), do your research, then make your decision.
@theblindasshole1 I'd be more inclined to suggest something based on the new AMD APU technology; the HP dm1. The 11.6" screen is a better size, and the battery life and especially performance is quite a bit better than any netbook.
I visited HP stores and saw the HP mini110 by myself, but still couldn't decide which one to buy. Then I saw your video on the review of HP mini 110 here, after watching it I went online and buy it!! My netbook I don't know if is because of the dual core and 250 GB it is FAST!!! I love it!!!! Thanks a lot~!!! :)
Hi, again what a great video!!! Thanks for the answers, my HP mini 110 is using a win 7 starter with a no extra fee of dual core, upgrade from 160 GB to 250GB free and a 6-cells battery( I thinks your vid made them change their mind..) I'm from Taiwan and the price was $9,900 TWD and that is $345 USD, it use to be $13,990 TWD which is $488 USD I don't how much is the price range in other countries, but is CHEAP in taiwan! Well, it took me around 2 yrs to find a good netbook...
what kind of windows 7 do you have? Just wondering cause in my HP mini it has Windows 7 but it won't let me change the wallpaper and the transparency of toolbar as you have. If you have a different Windows 7 how would I get the same thing?
@jayemsc You have Windows 7 Starter, which you can't change the desktop wallpaper on. In the video I was using Windows 7 Ultimate. You can use Windows Anytime Upgrade (look is up) to upgrade Windows 7 Starter to Windows 7 Home Premium (that's all you'll need).
Great video! You answered lots of my questions. I'm leanin' towards to an Acer AspireOne. What are your thoughts? I don't want to spend anymore than I have too. The other ones I've been lookin' at are $300 or less.
@talldude123 You're talking about what I was saying at the one minute mark, right? Can I suggest you listen again? :-) I said that Windows Vista was too heavy, but that Windows 7 runs "really, really well" and is "more appropriate for netbooks".
@ThoughtsMedia Thanks for pointing that out. I do think that the manufacturers should just ship Windows 7 Home Premium, the Starter doesn't use that much less memory.
@talldude123 There's actually zero difference in memory footprint between different version of Windows 7 - unless you mean storage? Might be some small difference there. Regardless, I agree, Starter sucks and every computer should come with Windows 7 Home Premium as a baseline.
@ThoughtsMedia I honestly thought that manufacturers shipped netbooks with "Starter" due to memory requirements. Most netbooks ship with pretty big hard drives, usually 160gb. Although all netbooks should ship with solid state, I wish that my Mini 210 would've came with solid state instead of 5400RPM.
@talldude123 No, it's a cost thing: Microsoft charges less to the netbook OEMs for Starter than they do for Home Premium; less cost to the OEM means they can sell it for cheaper...but most people don't realize the limitations that Starter comes with. The storage requirements of Windows 7 Starter vs. Home Premium are virtually the same.
@ThoughtsMedia If it's a cost thing, they should all ship with Linux then. If I had the option I would have chosen Linux, however, Best Buy doesn't ship Linux laptops.
@talldude123 Linux netbooks have higher return rates than Windows netbooks; most people don't know what Linux is or understand how to use it. That might change moving forward with things like Chrome OS, but only if the person is truly cloud-based. And they'll still need a second computer to run iTunes, edit photos, etc.
@theSTAR70 I'm not sure - I've never tried it on a netbook. Voice recognition software is pretty intensive; I have my doubts as to how well it would work, but I could be wrong. :-)
hey Jace..I have a question about the processor and the ram that you mentioned..until now, i don't know what the significance of those two are when buying a lappy or a netbook..what would be their significance though when buying?
@tetrazonian The guy clearly states that netbooks can run any programs a desktop can, multiple times. The only issue is the performance, so why don't you just download the program and test it out?

@TheRetrogamer76 Some netbooks have a hidden partition for doing a factory restore, but if you need to use the DVDs, then you have to go buy a USB CD/DVD drive. They cost about $50 or so.
@MQnoob Haha...no doubt! Actually, I wouldn't even call it a netbook - it's a small laptop. Netbooks pretty much have to be using an Intel Atom or similar processor (VIA, etc.) to qualify for the badge. But the lines do get blurry, that's for sure.
@MQnoob First of all 30 FPS? That's not very good. Second of all why would you want to spend $1000 on a crappy netbook when you could buy a decent laptop for the same price.
30 FPS is impressive for a laptop(heck, netbook) of that size. Crysis is a demanding game that is not easy to run at all. Sure I could buy a laptop just as powerful(or maybe even more powerful) for 1000 bucks but it would not be near as portable as an m11x,

its all gone ronge for me i so pissed of i was going a Hp Mini 110 to get of amazon with windos 7 for £209.99 but thay now raised the price now it £249.00 i cant afford it now the pice changed in the last 6 minutes
@Hichemcj Some do, some don't. You'd need to check the individual specs for each product. Doing your own research is always the best way to find answers. :-)
hi, i got a question to ask you, my school have given me $500 to buy a netbook or notebook, but i am thinking of buying a netbook because of the price and the light weight. May i know is it worth to buy a netbook if i only used like 2 to 5 hours?
Why does everybody say that you need a external optical drive to use CD/DVD's and to install software?! Just install a virtual image program which some of which are free and make a CD/DVD image of the CD/DVD and transfer the image via memory stick to the netbook. Then mount the image on the netbook and you can use your CD's without needing to spend money on a external drive. Thats what I do. I even installed Windows 7 Professional via a USB Memory stick! Ive got a Asus EeePC 1005HA netbook BTW
It's impressive that you have the technical skills to do that, but if you look at most of the questions posted to my videos, they're made by people who are asking if a netbook comes with WiFi or how to use the Webcam. They're not going to know how to do what you're suggesting, so it's much easier for me to recommend they buy an external optical drive. Most people know how to plug in a USB cable and put in a DVD. :-)
Hey love the reviews, Ive been looking at getting a new notebook i only have a IBM T43 lol and was looking at maybe the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 or the new Inspiron Mini 10 what would you recommend? I might stick with XP not to sure yet But what out of the 2 do you personally think is the better notebook, in looks wise and performance/specs? Or would you recommend another just dont want to spend $799 like the HP Mini.?
I have a question about the battery down in the taskbar. I watched a video saying that a game running on here could run faster if I set it to High Performance, but it only has those strange options.
My question is, which is the equivalent to this High Performance?
The only thing that takes up GB and GB of data is media: videos, photos, music. Word documents for a PhD thesis don't need GB, so it's completely a matter of how much media you want to put on your netbook.
A big hard drive. :-) Most netbooks are at 160+ GB, and that's room for a lot of media...but if storage is important, go for the 250 GB hard drive. :-)
good videos. i prefer a laptop then a netbook but i'll say that the one i am on now the hp pavilion zv500 i got from my girlfriends dad had xp with sp2 and IT WAS SLOW, i got more ram and put vista on it and BOOM runs WAY FASTER! plus microsoft isnt gonna be supporting xp any longer. eff xp
i plan to enter grad school, and i will eventually need to write a PhD dissertation, what netbook would you recommend which has word processing and e-mail and YouTube capabilities?
Remember in the video where I said a Windows netbook can run any Windows program a regular laptop or desktop can, just slower? That includes "MP3 downloads".
(the one you did a review on) with Windows 7. I've been trying to change my desktop wallpaper and i cant find a way to change it. even through the control panel. Does the inspiron mini just not have one? I know it's not a big deal, i just want to change it. I just cant stand seeing the same thing over and over again you know? haha
Windows 7 Starter Edition does not allow you to change the desktop wallpaper. You'll need to upgrade to Windows Home Premium to do that. I know, it sucks, but it's one of the ways netbooks are kept fairly cheap - Microsoft sells a cheaper license to Dell, but they disable some features on it.
yeah i run world of warcraft and i can still Alt+tab to msn and have youtube running in the background and still have about 20-27fps, i know its not a good frame compared to purpose built gaming machines but its a netbook so i would say it is quite good for what it is
Ha..thought that would annoy you enough to make you bite Jason.. and yet you still haven't really answered my question ..All you've really told me is that you're an XP hater .. tut tut Jason ..
You're right, I am annoyed, because "which is faster" is a vague question that's impossible to answer. Faster at what? It's not like Windows 7 checks your email slower than Windows XP, or renders video slower. So define your question in a context that makes sense, and maybe I can help. But, honestly, picking an OS based on how much storage it takes up on your hard drive is silly. If that's really what you want, install Linux on it. :-)
So basically Jason , it doesn't really do anything faster than XP ..it's just prettier , ( and indeed may use more processing power to achieve all those pretty lights ) .. therefore no reason to have it .. So XP it is then Jason .. thought you'd agree ..
Wrong. Windows 7 is vastly more memory efficient than XP. It will use any available RAM you have to pre-cache frequently used programs, launching them faster than on XP. There. Windows 7 is faster. :-)
You never explained to me in what way you wanted one OS to be "faster" than another, and you still haven't, so I simply picked one way of the many ways in which Windows 7 outperforms Windows XP. If you had asked me specifics from the beginning, I'd have gladly given you answers. But hey, you're saving a couple of GB on your hard drive, and that's what really matters in life. ;-)
Actually , it does matter Jason... I have a Vista laptop ( 160 gb ) and I filled it up ..I found to my horror that the operating system took up many GBs ( can't remember how much ..and I didn't get a full 160 gb in the first place ..two drives in laptop ..both 72..73 gb in each or something .. ) I can't bear the thought of wasting a single GB on anything superflous..the netbook is only for watching my own vids , youtube etc .. every byte is needed .. so XP it must be ..Right Jason ??
If you're asking me to agree with you that XP is the best choice for you, then yes, it sounds like you'll be happy with XP because it uses up less storage space on the hard drive than Windows 7 and that's all you care about. But weigh that against the worse security in XP, decreasing support from developers, and worse stability, and Windows 7 is the smart choice. But please do whatever you want - I'm done with this conversation. It's your decision.
Those "cocks ups and crashes" are the kinds of things that Microsoft has been working to fix. In Windows XP, a video driver crash would typically take down the whole system with a blue screen of death. In Vista/7, Microsoft moved the video driver away from the kernel, which means if the video driver crashes, your screen would go black for a second, then the video driver reboots. Anyone that thinks Microsoft spent years only adding "fancy graphics" to Vista/7 is ignorant of reality.
But Will It Blend? That Is The Question.

Jason what was that website to upgrade your Net Book to Windows 7 Home Premium without the Optical Drive
IceCreamBoy450 1 year ago
No clue. Use a search engine. :-) You'll probably need an optical drive at some point though, so you might as well just buy one...

hi, i got a question to ask you, my school have given me $500 to buy a netbook or notebook, but i am thinking of buying a netbook because of the price and the light weight. May i know is it worth to buy a netbook if i only used like 2 to 5 hours?
meodows92 1 year ago
Why does everybody say that you need a external optical drive to use CD/DVD's and to install software?! Just install a virtual image program which some of which are free and make a CD/DVD image of the CD/DVD and transfer the image via memory stick to the netbook. Then mount the image on the netbook and you can use your CD's without needing to spend money on a external drive. Thats what I do. I even installed Windows 7 Professional via a USB Memory stick! Ive got a Asus EeePC 1005HA netbook BTW
jdcresswell 1 year ago
It's impressive that you have the technical skills to do that, but if you look at most of the questions posted to my videos, they're made by people who are asking if a netbook comes with WiFi or how to use the Webcam. They're not going to know how to do what you're suggesting, so it's much easier for me to recommend they buy an external optical drive. Most people know how to plug in a USB cable and put in a DVD. :-)
- Jason
ThoughtsMedia 1 year ago
yeah but i have a lot of CDs and most netbooks only have a 160GB HDD so it might be a better idea to spend 100$ on an external optical drive

I have a question about the battery down in the taskbar. I watched a video saying that a game running on here could run faster if I set it to High Performance, but it only has those strange options.
My question is, which is the equivalent to this High Performance?

open question: for a future PhD student, 160GB or 250GB hard drive? it's about $USD 20 difference
theSTAR70 2 years ago
The only thing that takes up GB and GB of data is media: videos, photos, music. Word documents for a PhD thesis don't need GB, so it's completely a matter of how much media you want to put on your netbook.

do i need?
TiiPzYbAbY 1 year ago
A big hard drive. :-) Most netbooks are at 160+ GB, and that's room for a lot of media...but if storage is important, go for the 250 GB hard drive. :-)

one last question: will these netbooks allow for MP3 downloads or is a full blown notebook required? thanks in advance

Remember in the video where I said a Windows netbook can run any Windows program a regular laptop or desktop can, just slower? That includes "MP3 downloads".

I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 10
(the one you did a review on) with Windows 7. I've been trying to change my desktop wallpaper and i cant find a way to change it. even through the control panel. Does the inspiron mini just not have one? I know it's not a big deal, i just want to change it. I just cant stand seeing the same thing over and over again you know? haha
tehmantpp 2 years ago

DabAndrew 2 years ago
You're right, I am annoyed, because "which is faster" is a vague question that's impossible to answer. Faster at what? It's not like Windows 7 checks your email slower than Windows XP, or renders video slower. So define your question in a context that makes sense, and maybe I can help. But, honestly, picking an OS based on how much storage it takes up on your hard drive is silly. If that's really what you want, install Linux on it. :-)
- Jason
ThoughtsMedia 2 years ago
So basically Jason , it doesn't really do anything faster than XP ..it's just prettier , ( and indeed may use more processing power to achieve all those pretty lights ) .. therefore no reason to have it .. So XP it is then Jason .. thought you'd agree ..
DabAndrew 2 years ago
Wrong. Windows 7 is vastly more memory efficient than XP. It will use any available RAM you have to pre-cache frequently used programs, launching them faster than on XP. There. Windows 7 is faster. :-)
- Jason
ThoughtsMedia 2 years ago
An answer at last ..now why didn't you just say that in the first place .. ( not enough though ..I'm still getting XP )
DabAndrew 2 years ago
You never explained to me in what way you wanted one OS to be "faster" than another, and you still haven't, so I simply picked one way of the many ways in which Windows 7 outperforms Windows XP. If you had asked me specifics from the beginning, I'd have gladly given you answers. But hey, you're saving a couple of GB on your hard drive, and that's what really matters in life. ;-)
- Jason
ThoughtsMedia 2 years ago
Actually , it does matter Jason... I have a Vista laptop ( 160 gb ) and I filled it up ..I found to my horror that the operating system took up many GBs ( can't remember how much ..and I didn't get a full 160 gb in the first place ..two drives in laptop ..both 72..73 gb in each or something .. ) I can't bear the thought of wasting a single GB on anything superflous..the netbook is only for watching my own vids , youtube etc .. every byte is needed .. so XP it must be ..Right Jason ??
DabAndrew 2 years ago
If you're asking me to agree with you that XP is the best choice for you, then yes, it sounds like you'll be happy with XP because it uses up less storage space on the hard drive than Windows 7 and that's all you care about. But weigh that against the worse security in XP, decreasing support from developers, and worse stability, and Windows 7 is the smart choice. But please do whatever you want - I'm done with this conversation. It's your decision.
- Jason
ThoughtsMedia 2 years ago
Last word ..In all the years I've had XP , no virus has ever bugged it ..usual cock ups & crashes etc , but no virus has done any real damage ..
DabAndrew 2 years ago
Those "cocks ups and crashes" are the kinds of things that Microsoft has been working to fix. In Windows XP, a video driver crash would typically take down the whole system with a blue screen of death. In Vista/7, Microsoft moved the video driver away from the kernel, which means if the video driver crashes, your screen would go black for a second, then the video driver reboots. Anyone that thinks Microsoft spent years only adding "fancy graphics" to Vista/7 is ignorant of reality.
