I find it funny that I used to love Iron Maiden a couple of years ago when I was younger (I'm 17), but I've moved onto to different kinds of music when I was 16, but even then I can't escape it. I discover a band called Godspeed You! Black Emperor and lo and behold, they have a sample of a guy off the street they find, I guess, "reciting a poem he wrote", i.e. Virus. Funny if you think about it.

@JakePremier Even then! :P I first heard maiden when I was 14 (didn't discover music until that age, played NES 8bit and internet didn't exist yet), also discovered GY!BE a few years later, been on and off maiden all the time, now I'm 28. So you can expect to go through quite a few more phases when it comes to taste in music, just saying so as you know what to expect of life.

The reason people think Blaze Bayley "sucks" is not because he was not a good singer. Blaze Bayley is excellent, but he is not Iron Maiden material. You notice how different The X Factor and Virtual XI are completely different than the rest of maiden. He would have changed the band, and sent it down a different road. moonchildsixsixsix the songs you just listed are the reason you hear what you hear. Good songs, but not Iron Maiden.

@Annihilator49 Sort of agree. Not that he wasn't Iron Maiden material, more that he was a departure from what IM were seen as. By the time Blaze joined, nobody would have been universally accepted as a replacement, no matter how good (and Blaze is excellent) they were. Whoever replaced Bruce Dickinson would have been on a hiding to nothing.

I think, though, this is by far Blaze's best, most powerful vocal performance with Maiden....when he belts out "sharpening their paper knives" or "happens all the time"...I just cant imagine Bruce being able to deliver that part anywheres near as well as Blaze, and IMHO you can only say that about a few Blaze Maiden tracks.

@DeathtoRaiden1 A lot of Blaze's songs are not given the credit they deserve, people didn't like the change of direction Maiden took, so they didn't give Blaze a chance. Also so of them forget that Maiden had a singer before Bruce, and so when they hear someone different they reject it. The thing is Maiden would have changed directions with or without Blaze, Steve is the reason for the change. I mean his dad died, his wife left him, and both Bruce and H had recently left the band.
