Thank you I'm in AP English 11 and this helped me so much thanks. Not to be racist, but I would kick that "crackers" (White man that had nothing between 1600's and 1700's- Take that AP US History) ass up and down his little neighborhood.
where is the part where the woman goes crazy because of the money that was going to be used to buy the house, well I don't remember, but I know I was watching the one with Esther Rolle years ago and her character went crazed a little cause someone stole the money.
no its a quote from the poem A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes google it and read the poem and analyze it and try to find the true meaning, then you will understand this play better
WOW this movie was INCREDIBLE and had some of the most POWERFUL ACTING from EVERYONE in one whole movie. Usually it's one or two people that stand out but in this movie EVERYBODY was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!
The dialog between the mother and the son, I thought it was about freedom, naw mama it was always about money! The inequality that was maintain then and now, was always about money. The murder of shabazz, martin, patrice, biko, was always about money. Equality means fair share. The 99% versus the 1% is about fair share. We are still living on the plantation until there is equality.
What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore-- And then run? Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and sugar over-- like a syrupy sweet? Maybe it just sags like a heavy load. Or does it explode? --LANGSTON HUGHES
I stumbled upon this movie because an artist used part of the dialog for a sample. Anyway i ended up watching the movie as the start pulled me in and im so glad i did...great watch....so many lessons still valid today. It so happens my mother is currently reading a Poitier book (coincidence) Thankyou!
thank you so much for posting this; one of my summer reading books is a raisin in the sun, and i have a hard time paying attention while just reading, so i listened to these videos and read along (: thanks a billion.
Wow!!!! This is truly a beautiful movie!!! Thank you for sharing this!!!! I'm definitely gonna go and buy the dvd!!!! Amazing talent, such excellent acting!!!! Beautiful, rich and deep storyline. It is really is a shame that they don't make movies like this anymore!!!!
i wish i had a mother like that!!! sometimes when ur parents say yes to everything things are very hard when the world says no. Why Hollywood doesn't make movies like this one anymore???
Having abit of a Sidney Poitier movie session at the moment, only recently introduced to him as part of a BA cultural studies course, really enjoyed this one! Didnt expect it to have such a happy ending! Glad though :D
Thank you so muchhh a million for uploading this... everytime i watch this movie.. i fell in love with poitier... every character is supreme here with mama at her bestest !! thanks againn :D
Grr, that Lindner still calling them "you people" on the way out. Well, take that, the Youngers won. I'd like to imagine that they continued being happy. Anyways, thank you for uploading this.

thank you soooooooooo much for posting the whole movie. the college i go to is doing the play and I have to play Ruth and watching it here helps me of how to come off and portray her more effiiciently :)
Thank you for posting this movie. I was was watching it on cablevision, TCM when they cut the ending. I was left in the air wondering what the outcome was going to be. Fortunately, I was able to find it on youtube. It was truly a wonderful movie. You just don't see performances done like this anymore. Performance with passion.
Absolutely fantastic movie!!! Sidney Poitier is totally phenomenal!!!! Love him! I need this for my American Lit class, so thanks a lot for uploading this =D
I have to echo everybody else's gratitude for this great posting, iloveidneyportier. The quality is outstanding and the required breaks between parts was not bad. One of my all time favorites and to think Claudia McNeil didn't even get an oscar NOMINATION let alone a win. Hers is one of my favorite performances in movie history.
I haven't seen the new version of this film but, I don't see how diddi can even come close to match Poitier performance of this film. One of the best movies I've seen ever.
@HyperBubbles87 thats funny....in my English Lit class we were supposed to be reading the book, but I watched this instead, I just wasnt interested in reading the play write lol
Wow, that was some powerful movie. I thought it would be a boring story, but it had powefrul lessons. The movie had a great actors which made the story come alive. :)
Thank you so much for posting this movie! I have an English Final Tomorrow on "A Raisin in the Sun" and i couldn't find it anywhere on the internet except here. Thanks again! :)
what a phenomenal classic! Sidney Poiter is a genius at his work. There will never be another to replace this man, I love every film he has starred in. He is strong educated and a shinning armor. Nothing that he has touched has not turned to gold! Thank you ilovesidneypoitier for posting this on youtube.
I read this years ago and it touched me very deeply. But this is my first time seeing it, its so much more powerful. It means a lot to me, and it means a lot to be able to see it. Thank you.
Thank you very much for uploading this film i've been wanting to watch it again for years, they just dont make true, clean quality films like this anymore, trust me. Thanks again i really appreciate this!!
This movie is great great great. I love it and I've seen it a bigillion and 20 times and never get tired of it. I love the ending. The movie is about redemption and looking to the future and holding on to what's inside. Just like Asagi said, the money wouldn't have even been there if a man had not died then what? I love the story the lesson in this movie. Thanks ilovesidneypoitier for posting it.
I did, however, seem to have a sync problem between visuals and audio, and I'm not sure if I'm the only one. Regardless, I am so happy that I could watch it.
So sad that this amazing playwright (Lorraine Hansberry) died at age 34; it makes me appreciate this play/movie even more.
you guys should read "the unfilmed original screenplay" version, they took out something like 35-40% of the story to make this movie, as lovely as this movie is the original screenplay strikes harder strings on racial discrimination and its upsetting some of the dialogue that was taken out, never-the-less this is a wonderful movie and the performances are nothing short of brilliant... Lorraine Hansberry wrote something beautiful when she wrote A Raisin in the Sun
Thanks so much for posting this, I dont have the means to get this movie and this really helped. That last part where Beneatha hugged him was so touching. I think Walter is a perfect example of a tragic hero, he went from an arrogant man pressed on a financial dream to a mature man who can lead his family into the next generation. Great Story!
As we say here in Italy-- 1000 grazie. :-)..... I watched the new version( 2007?) but this I liked better-- I Love Sidney and most of all the Mother--very powerful...thank you for posting.
