  • Thanks so much for uploading this movie.I have to act it in my Drama class. Totally was worth every minute seeing this. Thanks again! :)

  • I had to watch this for a college class. I am so awed by thi smovie is all I can say

  • Thank you I'm in AP English 11 and this helped me so much thanks. Not to be racist, but I would kick that "crackers" (White man that had nothing between 1600's and 1700's- Take that AP US History) ass up and down his little neighborhood.

  • This wasn't a movie. It was an experience.

  • where is the part where the woman goes crazy because of the money that was going to be used to buy the house, well I don't remember, but I know I was watching the one with Esther Rolle years ago and her character went crazed a little cause someone stole the money.

I do not remember what happens.Let me shut up

  • no its a quote from the poem A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes google it and read the poem and analyze it and try to find the true meaning, then you will understand this play better

  • Sooo they moved out?

  • Grandma reminds me of my nana, sweet, strong, but yet down to earth! She loved eveyone,

r.i.p. Edna Cole! I miss you!

  • This is my all time favorites...the finally scene grips me when Mama looks around and remembers yet ready to release and let go of the past.

  • WOW this movie was INCREDIBLE and had some of the most POWERFUL ACTING from EVERYONE in one whole movie. Usually it's one or two people that stand out but in this movie EVERYBODY was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The dialog between the mother and the son, I thought it was about freedom, naw mama it was always about money! The inequality that was maintain then and now, was always about money. The murder of shabazz, martin, patrice, biko, was always about money. Equality means fair share. The 99% versus the 1% is about fair share. We are still living on the plantation until there is equality.

  • Such a damn good play!!! Thank you for sharing!

  • about this movie... i do like it alot at the end! thanks

It so happens my mother is currently reading a Poitier book (coincidence) Thankyou!

  • A very nice movie indeed! I watched it first because I have the play as part of my syllabus in M A English.

  • I forgot just how touching this movie is. Every aspect of family is shown in this one room. Talk about weathering the storm-- OUTSTANDING! Thanks again for uploading.

  • Absolutely fantastic movie!!! Sidney Poitier is totally phenomenal!!!! Love him! I need this for my American Lit class, so thanks a lot for uploading this =D

  • Thank you, I was supposed read this for a class but I watched it here instead.

  • The last scene where Lena envisons putting her hand on the head of her long and hardworking deceased husband, to me, is African American history.

  • I have to echo everybody else's gratitude for this great posting, iloveidneyportier. The quality is outstanding and the required breaks between parts was not bad. One of my all time favorites and to think Claudia McNeil didn't even get an oscar NOMINATION let alone a win. Hers is one of my favorite performances in movie history.

  • "He come into his manhood today!" I love you Sidney!

  • Thank you, so much for uploading this video. We need to show this to ' all our young black children.'

  • what a phenomenal classic! Sidney Poiter is a genius at his work. There will never be another to replace this man, I love every film he has starred in. He is strong educated and a shinning armor. Nothing that he has touched has not turned to gold! Thank you ilovesidneypoitier for posting this on youtube.

  • I read this years ago and it touched me very deeply. But this is my first time seeing it, its so much more powerful. It means a lot to me, and it means a lot to be able to see it. Thank you.

  • @ilovesidneypoitier so what just happend basicaly?

  • @bostonianful They move to their new house and don't let bigotry from stopping them.

  • @ilovesidneypoitier thank you sooo much!!

  • This movie is great great great. I love it and I've seen it a bigillion and 20 times and never get tired of it. I love the ending. The movie is about redemption and looking to the future and holding on to what's inside. Just like Asagi said, the money wouldn't have even been there if a man had not died then what? I love the story the lesson in this movie. Thanks ilovesidneypoitier for posting it.

  • @FireLordOzaiIsHot you are so welcomed FireLordOzaiIsHot , I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Sidney Poitier is a genius.

  • @ilovesidneypoitier

Yes, THANK YOU so much for posting this on here!

    =)

I did, however, seem to have a sync problem between visuals and audio, and I'm not sure if I'm the only one. Regardless, I am so happy that I could watch it.

So sad that this amazing playwright (Lorraine Hansberry) died at age 34; it makes me appreciate this play/movie even more.

    ;~D

  • @FireLordOzaiIsHot dount you love it

  • " that aint no bail of cotton" lol im gonna use that

  • Timeless...

  • This was the best movie i saw in 50 years

It was better than roots & so were the per-

formances. They don't make them like this

anymore. Pure genius. A masterpiece of

humanity, how we sacrificed ever since,

we are regressing big time, not progress-

ing at all, been so cheated of greatness

  • you guys should read "the unfilmed original screenplay" version, they took out something like 35-40% of the story to make this movie, as lovely as this movie is the original screenplay strikes harder strings on racial discrimination and its upsetting some of the dialogue that was taken out, never-the-less this is a wonderful movie and the performances are nothing short of brilliant... Lorraine Hansberry wrote something beautiful when she wrote A Raisin in the Sun

  • Thanks so much for posting this, I dont have the means to get this movie and this really helped. That last part where Beneatha hugged him was so touching. I think Walter is a perfect example of a tragic hero, he went from an arrogant man pressed on a financial dream to a mature man who can lead his family into the next generation. Great Story!

  • i had to do this for a project but then i ended up watchin an awesome movie thx 4 the post :) helped alott

  • Best movie ever. This movie always puts me in a good mood. Thanks for posting it. ^_^

  • You are very welcomed. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • In 1959 Lorraine Hansberry won the new york drama critics circle award for best play of the year. rest in peace lorraine.

  • As we say here in Italy-- 1000 grazie. :-)..... I watched the new version( 2007?) but this I liked better-- I Love Sidney and most of all the Mother--very powerful...thank you for posting.

  • Wow..i read the book...i thought it was boring..i was born in 1992..im a senior in high school im 16 yrs old...ive always disliked black & white movies...this is the first time ive ever watched a whole black & white movie..i read the book and the movie almost everything thay say in the movie is in the book...this is one of the best movies ive ever watched...thank you for the post man...i never thought one of my top 10 favorite movies would be black and white..

  • happy ending i love it.

  • i've never seen the danny glover version...but i do like the other 2 versions (but i have to say, i think sidney's better than pdiddy...but pdiddy did a good job...)

  • boy i tell yeah P.diddy should of study him , Danny glover came close but Sindney Poitier still is the best Walter Lee

  • You can say that again. I think they should leave the classic movies alone, especially the masterpieces like A Raisin in the Sun. Why ruin it by making a remake? Don't tamper with perfection.

  • Thanks for sharing this video.

  • You are very welcome, harris3810

  • Beautiful ending! Made me all teary eyed, haha. :)

  • You are very welcomed. So glad to have been able to help. Good luck with the test/

  • They should have made the ending song George Clintons theme song to the PJ's...""ohh yeah P J's Projects""

  • Wait a minute, wheres the part where they arrive at the new house in a cab and they go into the house and Travis runs around checking out all the rooms and Mama goes to her new garden in the back yard, i thaughtthat was the ending?

  • That's shown in part 9. Look and see.

  • Ah! i felt like crying at the end now i have to write my essay but i dont know how to start it

(anyone want to help ! )

    Love,Bernie

  • If you think about it A Raisin in the sun had to be the inspiration for Good Times! because the plotlines are similar within the sitcom James Evans was always trying to find a way for his family to get out of the projects.

  • OMG, I never thought about it that way but now that you have mentioned it, that is so true. It does resemble "Good Times."

  • Folks should read the book. Nothing like reading the book. But thank you "Ilovesidneypoitier" for posting this movie. I watched it all the way through.

  • Youare so welcomed, Lazarusrizing.

  • Walter Lee became a man finally!

  • Thank you so much for posting this movie. Saved me from reading the book :P
