  • elvis presley god rest his soul....everybody listen closely and put the lyrics from elvis's song hound dog....he jus changed the lyrics but same tempo and everythng and he took out the gospel feel to rock n roll

  • It is amazing the lineup for this recording on the set...Soul Stirrers, Pilgrim Jubilees, Swanee Quintet, Blind Boys of MS, Blind Boys of AL, Nightingales, Hummingbirds, Consolers, Mighty Clouds of Joy and the Highway QCs!!!

  • raw anywhere i get get this version, but not live?

  • @AlexanderMahan It was releaed on SAR records (Sam Cookes label). you may be able to find it somewhere.

  • @AlexanderMahan

I have it on "Sam Cooke's SAR Records Story 1959-1965"

  • Need assistance. We want to sing this version in Church but we are not sure as to what they are saying at the end of Wade in the water.........Are they saying "and repent your sins for the soul", "repent your sinful soul" or "for there you'll cleanse your sinful soul"? Please help. Thanking you in advance.

  • @TheMMan3000 I believe they're saying For you'll cleanse your sin sick soul

  • @TheMMan3000 They are saying, "until he cleanse your sinful soul

  • thanks melanie...is leroy still alive...?

  • yes was just on Bobby jones

  • You welcome.....Yes my Uncle Leroy is still alive...He's Living in Ocala FL,....Last month he had throat surgey, Glory to God he is doing Fine...

  • @housebanks22 Leroy is still alive.

  • All the family members of this AMAZINGLY talented group... Man, I bet there's plenty who would have paid admission to come to a joint family reunion... I know I would!

More people should know about this music. REAL singing. REAL talent. Instead, people today think Kanye West and Beyonce are singers. Neither could qualify to sing backup for these guys.

  • we need as much of this online as exists...every second...the Soul Stirrers, fronted by the amazing singers R.H. Harris and Paul Foster, are truly the pillars upon which modern popular music rests...this is soul, rock, blues, jazz, funk and doo-wop...in it's purest form...hard gospel...this one knocks me out every time...

  • perfectly said......

  • thats absolutely leroy crume on the far right on guitar.

  • Hello....You are Right That is Leroy Crume on the Guitar....That's my uncle....my dad was Dillard Crume, He sung with The Soul Stirrers in 1976....My Uncle Leroy was the first Crume Brother to play Gituar with The Soul Stirrers.....

    Melanie Crume

  • On this particular video, that's Bob King, who is playing the guitar! Not Mr. Crume!

  • that guy that's playing the Guitar...IS LeRoy Crume, How I know The Crume Brother to play gituar with The Soul Stirrers!...Lord Have Mercy....Some People need to Read And Learn More bout History....

    Melanie Crume.....

  • Another Thing...........Leroy Crume that is him on the guitar.....That's my uncle....First he started out on the Guitar.....Then in the 70's and 80's....he went to the Organ........My dad Dillard Crume, sung lead with the group in 1976 until 1998......YEP that's is my Uncle Leroy Crume on that guitar......and that is not no Bob King.....

Melanie Crume........The Niece of Leroy Crume..

  • @KmbrlyRoc2 No, That's LeRoy Crume for real. Bob came before LeRoy, But LeRoy took Bob's place because Bob was sick and couldn't make the programs. LeRoy got the respect for playing guitar like Sam got respect for lead singing. But I'm not taken anything from Paul Foster. He sings from his soul!! Respect to all of the Crume brothers. Rufus (Rest In Peace), Dillard(Rest In Peace), and long live Arthur Crume and LeRoy Crume.

  • Yep!!!! That's my uncle LeRoy Crume on the gituar everybody....that's my daddy Dillard Crume's brother...ooh my uncle know he was young back in them days... Melanie Crume

  • That's (YOUR) uncle' you say..?

    Hey, wait a minute..

He's My uncle.. Yep.. thats him strumming that guitar just like he did when we were young.

    Good ole Leroy. Bless him.

    Daniel Crume

  • POWERFUL song and MAN. This is my Fav

  • Totally wonderful, the good Lord blessed Paul for sure

  • the soul stirrers were such an influence on the development of american/modern music.their influence was endless.paul foster influenced such giants as johnny gill, david ruffin, levi stubbs, teddy "p",james cleveland, marvin winans and the list is endless with just paul foster.if you add sam cooke...it would take a week to make the list.

  • The guitar instrumental intro up to :08 has the total feel of a Keen/Specialty/pre-RCA Victor Sam Cooke recording. The sheer artistic beauty of "Wade In The Water" here is that no other instrumentation is needed, this is the raw, in-your-face, gospel presentation from "the old church," undiluted by present day hip-hop influences that have all but destoyed true gospel singing as presented here. Thanks for posting.

  • great observation! my father would totally agree with you.

  • I LOVE him singing this song. He puts a lot into this. Especially when he skips. Until I seen this video I've never seen anyone sang this song. THANKS a million

  • THANKS A MILLION.....PAUL , man, man, man
