  • Hey, Thanks for your time. I just install a 500g hard drive in slot B on my power mac g5. Can I clone the files from the master drive(slot A) to slot B and boot from B, or do I need an eXternal. Thanks...

  • @soulofsouls Yah you definitely can you can select any drive on your computer even partitions as long as they appear in the disk utility as separate drives. I hope this helps let me know if you have any other quesitons.

    Cheers

  • @1n322n Put the new hard drive into the external drive to make the copy, make sure it boots and then replace the old hard drive with the new drive.

  • I would like to know how to copy files form an existing Mac Hd to and internal existing HArd drive that has files on and not lose all the information? can you help

  • @novaartist I would imagine that you could just drag and drop the files over but I have never tried that before and I don't know how well it would work. If you use SuperDuper (the method in this video) all files will be erased on the destination drive. Let me know if you need any more help, Cheers and thanks for watching my video.

  • @novaartist you can use firewire to transfer files between computers. the computer that you want to transfer files to must be turned off. turn it on when firewire is connected to both computers and holding the T key while turning on. on the other computer will show up as an external hard-drive. now you can copy files from & tos by dragging them just like you do with memory cards. you can do this Vice versa.

  • When using SuperDuper to clone my hard drive, are all of my system files from my original hard drive copied? And if not, which files are not copied? Also, I am cloning a 320 Gig drive to a 1.5 Terabyte drive, will the size difference cause any problems?

  • @scheekers It makes a full copy of every file, however you can select not to copy the system files if you desire. No their won't be any issues with you upgrading to a larger drive, in this video we went from an 80GB drive to a 500GB drive.

  • If I had bootcamp installed on the original drive would it also copy the windows files?

  • @Uberdude25 I'm not really sure actually as it might not see the partition. I would say Yes it would copy all the files if you can only see one volume and no partitions. But if you can select or or the other partitions then I would say no.

  • Hi, can I use an external HD that has my other files on it? Will it delete those files when I use it for Super Duper? thanks

  • @ifiam No you can't, SuperDuper will delete all the files on the drive, before it copy's the image of your original drive over.

You could just copy the external drives files to your original drive (if you have enough space) before you do the transfer though then they will all be transferred to your new drive.

  • I use a Mac Pro and want to use this program, my question is can you put a internal drive in the computer and go though the same process then when the copy is made just take the old HD out of slot 1 and replace it with the HD you just made?

  • @ClearstreamSound You should be able to do that, however I have never used a MacPro. As long as the drives show up as individual separate drives you should be ok. Let me know if you need any more help. Cheers and thanks for watching my video.

  • how do you put all files from the external (cloned) harddrive on the new one that you´ve installed in the computer?

You start up the computer via the external harddrive and then what? How do I copy it to the new one? thx

  • It's actually easier to do the opposite. Have the new drive in an external enclosure. Then follow all my steps and once you are done put the new drive back in the computer. Hope this helps

  • ok... I want everything that on my macbook transnfered to whats on my new mac mini i just bought... I already upgraded the HD on my mini... Its inside running... My question is do i have to copy it from the macbook to an external HD then from the external HD to the Mac Mini? I hope u understand me Bro

  • You say that you want to have the hard drive in and running does that mean that it has Mac OX on it, if so then you don't need SuperDuper just drag the files you want to an external hard drive and then to your computer or you can connect your two computers via an ethernet or firewire cable and then drag all the files from one computer to the next. SuperDuper is more used for backup or copying all your files to a blank drive before installation. Hope this helps. Cheers

  • You can also use the ethernet or firewire cable option to transfer the files automatically from the start up screen when you turn on your mac mini for the very first time. It will ask you if you want to transfer your files from your existing mac. Check yes and once the cables are plugged in click ok and your mac will do it all for you.

  • now that u transfered it the USB hard drive how do u put it on a new hardrive? Im upgrading the HD thats why...

  • So I'm not sure I completely understand your question but I'll do my best to answer it. There are a bunch of ways to do this but I'll explain the way that I do it when I change a hard drive. We will assume for this example that we are upgrading from a 120GB hard drive to a 250GB hard drive.

    Original Hard Drive: 120GB

    New Hard Drive: 250GB

    Step 1:

120GB drive is installed in the computer and the 250GB drive is connected via USB (either in a external USB drive enclosure or by some other means)

  • Step 2:

Use super duper to transfer all the files from the 120GB drive to the 250GB drive

    Step 3:

Remove the 120GB drive from your computer and install the 250GB drive in it's place

    Step 4:

Turn on the computer with the new 250GB drive installed and ensure everything works.

I'm hoping that this answered your question, let me know if you have any other questions.
