little did they know that this was a blessing in disguise. Thats how God works in mysterious ways, forced out and upset, and yet it saved most of their descendents from the hell europe went through during the nazi era. Crazy but awesome!
@snakedemon11 I don't know if you know anything about European history, but the Holocaust didn't affect Russia. Also, most of them went to European countries that did end up being occupied by Nazis.
@runnerman550 im talking about the prejudice everywhere, it was bad even in europe and so they too left. srry for talking positively, I will shut my mouth.
@snakedemon11 Yes, there was prejudice in Russia too, but this drove them right into the Holocaust. Anybody who thinks that that is a positive is sick.
@snakedemon11 You're right. The five or so people in the town who escaped to America were blessed, but do you think that it was a blessing in disguise that the majority of the people in the town were driven right into the Holocaust?
Motel: "we've been waiting for the Messiah all our lives. Wouldn't this be a good time for him to come?" too bad many Jewish people didn't recognize him the first time he came.
i luv jews, just love them. they adjust. my jewish great grandfather left europe in either the1900's or 1920's. so proud he escaped the holocaust. He fathered a child with a gentile woman, a bastard son he never recognized that was given his mother's last name (so he escaped the holocaust- and yippee were here today). so yay for my jewish genes that could have been just kept secret.
@AlienPossum I know. I could never tell whether the Rabbi was praying or crying. Probably both. I must say that I truly admire his quiet wisdom throughout the whole ordeal. When the villagers were demanding that they remain in Anatevka to defend themselves, it was the Rabbi who suggested that they would have to wait for their Messiah elsewhere and that the best thing to to at that moment was to pack up their possessions. At his age and experience, he knew that it was prudent to be practical.
BUT ON THE OTHER HAND ALL CHANGE IS GOOD.....faith is good, religion is personal choice but knowledge is the only thing that no one can steal from you....I love this movie!
@albandian to be jewish is to have a religion, not to be from somewhere! so you can't say all jewish girls are hot. do you even know anyone who's jewish??
@albandian I wouldn't bother. You can meet countless ethnic women and they all turn you down in the same way, not because they are ethnic, simply because they are women - FACT!
Motel Kamzoil's growth from a nebbishy young tailor into the confident tailor we see in 0:12 has been a delightful journey. Thank you yursparky for uploading this amazing movie for the world to see
Not sure if it's in Part 18, but in the full stage play, the two youngest (Bilke and Shipritze, I believe) say "we're going on a train, we're going on a boat, we're--!" and start jumping up and down before Golde tells them to hush. When we did this play in 8th grade, the girls playing Bilke and Shipritze were so cute and playful. They'd often be on the side, playing a hand-clapping game and giggling. So fun.
hey - I totally say that Tevye is the best actor and I love him in this movie; but I do agree that the rabbi brings tears to my eyes in this sad scene..
other than Les Miserables, this is my on my list for my fav. musicals!
