  • I hate how patronizing he is.

  • or use linux instead of windows....BAM!!! best idea ever everyone do it now

  • This guy's so funny.

  • i like how he's indifferent, you can tell he prefers windows, yet he doesn't talk about Linux like its shit..

  • dick

  • 97% of stuff can work on Linux, including Windows stuff.

If you lack experience and didn't research it, than yeah you'll probably run into conflicts.

The wonderful thing about Linux is that you can create copies of Custom Install Discs.

  • I actually have a video on that particular program, and gigafide has a video on the same thing, but he goes over the program andLinux so there's some good resources, and videos to checkout, plus installing software is mentioned in the videos as well, and it's very easy. So no excuses to the people that don't know how to install software lol.

  • If you installed a dual boot machine with linux and windows, it also offers you a great opportunity to play with windows a little bit ;^) It's really a cute operating system, if you would just give it a chance.

  • definition of ubuntu : the piece of shit that nearly ruined my dads laptop

how i got into installing ubuntu is becouse of windows vista ( definition of windows vista : piece of shit with too many bsod's) a bsod on my dads laptop (hp pavilion) so i asked him if he wanted it (biggest mistake ever) it loaded i went to google then boom crashed we tried to install windows xp it didnt work the disc is too scrached but we found annother xp disk and its installing fine.

so in my oppinion ubuntu = shit

  • @wozzupgamer I love Ubuntu, it never crashes on me. Try another distro if you don't like Ubuntu. Linux Mint, Fedora, Puppy Linux, OpenSUSE, OpenGEU, whatever.

  • @wozzupgamer dude.... ubuntu is very cool in my experience it in all ways except one, better than windows. the 1 way is that windows has the greatest market share of all other os combined therefore all commercial programs are designed for windows. there are ways around this but they cause some instability.

  • If people need this to get started with Linux ... Then It might be better if those people never touch a digital device again. 3 braincells and some will is all it needs for folks to google some howto's wiki's and all that jazz to properly get going. What a waste of bandwidth. think of the footprint you nerdyerk.

  • @retepvosnul You are a good troll, everyone knows that only a idiot would call this video a waste of bandwidth

  • @tubby775 You are a bad debater. A reasonable person would first objectively judge the facts before making such a meaningless retarded argument. 1. Lockergnome is a known spamhouse 2. this nerd is technically inept and only goes for "oww shiny". 3.Apart from random activities, he insists on airing an empty chair mostly on da intarnetz. All that Pretty much comes down to a waste of bandwidth in the worst degree. Only an idiot would postulate an "only an idiot....." argument.. you idiot.

  • @retepvosnul "da " intarnetz"? LOL..For such a person thinking her or she has INTELLIGENT enough room to correct someone else for being a " bad debater" you certainly need to spray away the rust that is your communication skills. Bbonics is NOT a language. It is an incorrect pronouncing of the english language. It is STREET and NOT "screet". IT IS ROOF and NOT Roouuf. and you dont have a fucking clue how wise and intelligent Pirillo is and how much of a pretty good career he's had going.

  • @chronofusion I have plenty clue Troll boy. "Intarnetz" is a on-line meme. Look into that before you shoot off your dumb ass mouth. And I have seen your petty dabbles in "communication". It is nothing to brag about.

I'm not going to argue that this nerd has make a pretty buck from a ethically questionable enterprise, but I am going to argue that this is a BAD thing. If you have a problem with that, Perhaps you need to start your own racket !. You moral fibre seems low enough.

  • @retepvosnul He's helped more people in his life than you can hope you've had time to pitifully insult for halfass justified reasons. Piss off troll. If you don't like looking at Pirillo's videos THEN DON'T CLICK ON THEM! There's your sign you dee dee deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • @chronofusion Even if that were true, you can not claim that at all. What the hell do you know ?

I, for example, do NOT run a spam company which is rather counter productive in the "HELPING" department. Even if this nerd(not geek) helped the odd noob with setting his windows background, I'd say the spam racket royally subtracts from that act of goodness.

And the don't watch argument also doesn't fly, when douchbags like you keep adding this noob to stumble.

  • @retepvosnul LOL..you dont even know how to STAY ON SUBJECT let alone make a point that makes ANY type of argumentative sense. and i damn sure am not the only one on youtube that knows you're just a silly troll mr. " blah blah..I dont run a spam company" .LOL. IM NOT GOOGLE EITHER.. nor do i care to be. no one cares what you think. Because the only things coming out of your trolling childish brain is BULLSHIT. it's not my responsible to educate you kid. piss off. lol.

  • yes..yes..yes..blah..blah..blah..!!!!

Hands...that talk more than your Mouth..

This guy Really needs a Psychiatrist.....

  • Cool....

    Oh yeah.. NERD ALERT! lol...

  • only down side, can't play windows based games in linux, now! if they get rid of this disadvantage, they would make a daring case for windows.

well not only with windows based game's but also windows based software, im not saying linux should go windows, just sayin, what if the could somehow get this windows based stuf to work on there system :)

  • @darkalligator

Actually, linux hasn't been erased if you load linux and then windows. The only thing windows did was to overwrite your master boot record. This is easy to fix. You put in an ubuntu CD or USB and boot from that. Then you chroot the linux partition that on your hard drive. Then you re-run the grub installer. Viola, your linux is back. Only takes about 2 minutes if you know what you are doing.

  • mmm the software that runs on linux oobuntoo whatever none of thats free is it ? had i look at a few torrent sites do i really want to learn how to crack apps all over again on linux nooooo

  • he is annoying to no end..

  • @BeetleChunks Chris often gets my nerves as well, prob cause he tries to be funny (who doesn't remember the goofy "Call For Help" shows on TechTv?) but he's very knowlegable. For Channel 9 (MSDN) to have him as a host, he's good.

  • brilliant

  • Wubi is the prefferred method of installing Ubuntu on a Windows It's sooooo easy my 5 year old niece could do it

Before installing Ubuntu, I'd recommend partitioning your hard drive, so one partition in running Windows and the other Ubuntu.

Just run Wubi following the directions and prompts.

  • and in case of dual boot, you must install windows first, then you can install linux mint, ubuntu, fedora or whatever you like, never install windows after, you will erase your ubutnu .....

  • you are talking lame stuff for children you son of a bitch

  • did u think what u talking about? This dude make information. So shut the FUK OFF SON OF A BITCH, see i can swear too..

  • You know they do make Linux for kids ever hear of " Qimo Linux "

  • Run the ISO in virtual PC

  • I created my own Linux distro. I have it dual booted with Windows 7. :)

  • is there a video comparing fedora to ubuntu or some other linux os?

  • where is my fucking termanel

  • i use wubi to instal ubuntu

  • i have ubuntu jaunty now installed in my system but my problem is it is locked in 800x??? resolution and when i installed nvidia driver the resolution goes to VGA and i cant change it to higher resolution cos the VGA resoltuion and other lower resolution is the only option...i want to have 1152x864 resolution >>>im using Geforce2 MX/MX400 ty guys

  • Take displayconfig-gtk (it is atleast in Ubuntu 8.04)

    sudo displayconfig-gtk

    change resolution etc...

Then update changes in System--->Settings --->Screens

I did this operation to my very old computer this summer and it worked. I could change resolution from 800x640 to 1280x1054 (my screen)

  • get the nvidia drivers and config it from the nvidia panel, not the gnome one

I too had that problem once, but it was because my vga cable was soooo bad that it didn't recognize the monitor well xD

  • what an ASS !!!!!!

  • its like the computer version of bi LOL!

  • WOW!!! very unique thought lmao!

  • wubi

  • you also can dual boot

  • when you install ubundu 9.04 from either cd or usb you can chose to install ubundu to try it without installing it

  • use this software called wubi it takes away the hassle of partitioning your c:// drive

  • Shut the hell up.

You people love to stereotype. Jesus kids like you come off as a kid that has no friends so rags on everyone one else through the internet so no one can know who this faggot kid is. Go grow a dick and get a life yourself.

  • Jesus. This is awful i am watching a different video i cant finish it.

  • This guy seems to be the expert in stretching out a comment to make the video as long as possible. I could have given the same information in only one minute whereas he takes 4 minutes.

  • @elzoog thats why i like him

  • @elzoog hey dumbass stip being such a pussy if u hate his videos being so long dont watch but stop complaining

  • Just run Linux on your hardrive (GOD)

  • um can use Ubuntu be use to run mac os10 on a pc?

  • ubuntu is a linux!

  • That is why most programmers use Linux, right? Because they are just silly little script kiddies ;)

  • i just wanna run ubuntu only, not duel boot, i cant find a tutorial, i fucking hate vista, no drivers are available for my shitty gateway.

  • then just remove the windows partition and install Ubuntu. You can do that from the partition manager on Ubuntu install

  • yea, but no linux drives are compatible. :(

  • please tell us what is the hardware that doesn't work. And remember that Ubuntu can't install drives on the live CD, and that is why the live cd experience is never enough. Most graphics cards need proprietary drivers that ubuntu will only install in a harddrive installation.

  • i just install off the cd, i didnt have vista, so sound, internet, and everything else doesnt work. i searched for drivers but nothing. so i can make it my only os but nothing works. thats all.

  • There are many linux distros that excel in working with any hardware and on older machines. Knoppix, for instance.

You can get all the information you need about linux distros at distrowatch.

  • yea you lost me...i gave up on this. im just going to suck it up and wait for the official windows 7 and rip it off of pirate bay..thanks for helping but its just to complicated.

  • ubuntu is the best os

  • He's obviously never heard of Wubi

  • i like fedora because i find it easier, and better layed out than ubuntu. i like the packagement management system a lot better than ubuntu's. it has excellent support, and resources all over the web. plus, fedora is based on rhel which is excellent for servers and networks.

  • ubuntu has a windows based installer entitled Wubi. It's excellent for trial uses, to get familiar with the os and to test run it to see if you like it. You will not have to edit any file systems, boot configuration, files.

  • if i do this and i dont like it can i switch back to windows in like a minute

  • fedora is so much better. ubuntu is boring.,

  • can you tell me the difference

  • im already running ubuntu is my primary OS but my parents run winxp so ill have to try this.

  • I use this at school :P

  • no use WUBI

  • iyanome Virtual Box will work for windows but when you run windows on the Virtual Box you wont be ably to play 3d games on it. as in wont work as fast and all. thats what are tech person told me for he has tried it did not work. i did to and it didn't work. but any ways i love Ubuntu didn't have to pay one cent for it. plus no virus or spy ware and all that other crap.

  • "Free" as in "Freedom" dudes, open source is all about Freedom, not money

  • open source doesn't mean Free, that is free as in no cost. Just because it's open source it doesn't mean it wont cost you anything... *sigh*

  • did every1 just forget about Virtual Box by sun microsystems???

  • cool. i wouldnt use it but cool. i would use a virtual machine

  • I'm considering running Linux on my next pc, but what are the definite advantages to Linux rather than Vista/Windows 7. (I'd be running both as I'd be doing a fair amount of video editing and some minor gaming as well)

  • Mac OSX...

  • sucks

  • No advantage in this case, If you simply ran linux, You would gain many advantages such as security, OS Speed, Customization, It never crashes. There is one major disadvantage tho, Due to Microsoft's greed, DirectX is not avaliable for linux, And so games are not ported to linux as its more trouble than its worth. If DirectX was on Linux, Who in their right mind would use windows?

  • I don't think Microsoft is afraid of linux, I think what they're afraid of is that if linux had direct x and actual support then Windows would take a massive hit while Mac sales would stay the same, meaning that Mac would end up with a larger market share compared to Windows than before. The points you made seem valid, but is it really that simple to run? I don't want to end up spending hours just trying to get things to work.

  • While linux takes a little more effort to get set up, Once it is, Theres no reinstalling windows every 5 seconds, Or reinstalling drivers etc. Once it's up, Its up for good. To me that is far more important than a little inconvenience at the begining.

  • i really like what linux is doing its free open source, ive reccomended this to many ppl and actually installed it ontu their computers they never thought would ever be up and running anymore and for that ubuntu gets two thumbs up

  • He talks about alot of old stuff that most people know already, and why is he using windows, thought he was a Apple fan boy/ everything apple kind of guy, i feel sorry for him -_-

  • he feels sorry for you

  • He's not an Apple fanboy, dumbass. He talks about technology, despite what operating system it's on. Quit being a biased fuck.

  • i'm not being bias, , key word, i said, "thought" not is, but besides the fact, apple sucks and they over charge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, and i love how you didn't comment on what else i said, who's the bias fuck now -_-

  • GIRUGAMESH

  • u can install mac on a pc to

    and linux takes agers

to send out the cds if u dont pay for postage

  • If it takes so long to have the disks delivered, then just download them.

  • this is no tutorial change the title

  • why is this guy such fag?

  • why does he say uuubuuntuu? lmao

  • Portable?

I installed Ubuntu 8.4 inside Vista on my desktop PC last night. Or rather, I let it install itself. I put the disc in the drive, and it asked me what I wanted to do. Did I want to run it from the disc, install it, or what? I clicked to install, and it said, did I want to install it inside Windows? I clicked yes.

The system was up and running approximately 35 mins later. An idiot could do it.

    £3.99 instead of £170.00?

    ;-)

  • If you paid for linux when you said £3.99, you shouldnt of, its open sourse so it should be free, and i think its protected by a legislation to say taht if you buy it you shouldnt of its free lol

  • The 3.99 was just the cost of the cd and postage. I could have downloaded if for nothing. And, as far as I know the open source ethos is that it's free to use and do with what you will, not that it should be free to aquire from a supplier.

There's no such thing as a free lunch. ;-)

  • No GPL states they can charge for media and handling charges. You can charge for the CD and even the time it takes to make it.

All of that is covered by the GPL. Besides When they say free that does not mean necessarily free as in free beer. More like free as in free speech.

  • It was what I did on my new Vista Home Premium machine. It runs like I am dual-booting both Window and Linux. I have an Window XP machine running side by side with Linux Ubuntu 9.04 beta in dual boot mode and yet another older machine runs solely on the same beta version. It is free. Our e-mail client Evolution runs faster than any e-mail client on earth. This beta version also makes installing codecs for multimedia operation a scint. Way to go Ubuntu.

  • I wish it worked on Windows 7 x64 :(

  • "explore what its like to be inside a different operating system"

    ...sounds so dirty.

  • I really can't stand the way he says Ubuntu.

  • It's how you say it...

    It's not uh-bun-too...

    It's Ooh-boon-too..

    Just like Kubuntu and Xubuntu...

Saying kuh-bun-too just sounds retarded lol

  • I say Ubuntu, You-bun-two. lol

  • so do i

  • Omg chris you damn nerd i use to like you but god sakes do you anything besides sit in front of a fucking computer try to stay off the computer for 1 day doubt you can do it computers are like your drug

  • Mac OS 10.....EW EW EW

  • I have Ubuntu as my only OS ^^ did what he said for a bit then went to all the way

  • I tested Ubuntu, after not running half my programs and hardware, and taking five times longer to do a simple task like installing a program, I just went back to using Windows Xp, which works with about 99% of everything, getting a little old though.

  • What program do you use to zoom in?

  • its a feature in OS 10

  • control+scroll bar up-or-down on mac os x

dunno how to do it in windows

  • I cant : ( my laptop does not like linux at all its to do with the graphics i think.

  • I have Vista and Ubuntu.

  • I got Ubuntu on one of my old 40 gig hard drives in my machine. Used it about 2 times. Can't play many games on it. Ya its secure but it needs more software support.

  • Comment removed

  • This is slow compared to using wubi but Iike being able to use it without dedicating 10gb to ubuntu and having to reboot.

  • If you have windows installed on your computer and you boot off a "Ubuntu netbook remix" (Ubuntu for netbooks, awesome OS highly reccomended) live CD, and go to install it gives you the option to install Ubuntu side by side with windows. it partitions everything and installs a bootloader for you. It's really cool.

  • I bite my thumb at "Drumlind15". And I question to thee, do thy due?

  • do u bite ur thumb at him sir?

    lol

  • "I do bite my thumb, sir."

"Do you bite your thumb at me, sir?"

"I do not bite my thumb at you, sir."

  • lol english class on youtube

BRING ME MY LONG SWORD, HO!!!

  • from romeo and juliet right?

  • right on bro :D

  • lol last year when i read that i busted out laughin

  • It is...

Can't remember who says it though...I think it might be Paris..

    Maybe Tybalt...

  • i think its montague saying it to lady montague

  • ya its at the beginning-ish when everyone is fighting in the market

    right after the thumb biting:)

  • Keep in mind Wubu does pretty much the same thing, and is more fun to say!

  • VIRTUAL BOX !!

    noob !!

  • x32 architecture unsupported!!!

  • You mean x86?

    Virtualbox supports x86 and x86_64

  • is it just me, but i have always prenounced ubuntu as:

    you-bun-two

  • Why would anyone want to run Linux. It's just a piece of crap that is nowhere near having the amount of capacity it needs in order to keep yourself from being robbed of your identity.

  • I pity you.

  • why do you say that?

  • he talks about alot of old stuff that lots of people already know about, lol, it's sad really

  • Or how about you just install Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 and install the real Ubuntu in that?

  • does portable ubuntu work for vista, and how does it work?

  • Its about time he started making videos and not advertising at much. Even though he is still advertising a lot.

  • Awesome, now I can use ubuntu even when I have to use strictly "windows only"-software.

  • Wow its so wierd I was just about to download "andlinux" for runnign linux on windows but this looks much, much better

  • Virtual box!

  • Linux is a free operating system that you can download. You don't have to pay anything and it isn't a trial.

  • What about the Wubi Installer?

    And VirtualBox

  • you could also try the KDEWin Project, it's the Kde programs ported to Windows

  • someone should do this so they can run the mac os over windows like this.

  • HEEYYYY, YOU GUUUUUYS!

  • This is very good if you like to integrate linux with windows, but not very good for all time use. Dual Booting is generally better (Ie. Wubi)

  • Its really useless,Chris is useless

  • or u could just download wubi google search it and its installs ubuntu onto your hardrive and you need 5gb harddrivespace and you dont have to dual boot it or anything it will just intall itself

  • wow folks aren't very nice on your comments

  • well its cuz this is fucking soo obvious :P

  • Gr8 video regardless of sm of d comments given below

  • cool

  • go die plz or i can do it for you

  • Wow, Chris Pirillo must be some sort of tech-genius. He manages to install Ubuntu! Jesus Christ, Ubuntu is the easiest shit to install or access via Live-CD. You don't even need a damn manual or a list of instructions. Try coming up with better video ideas.

  • Try reinstalling the latest flash player and java update.

  • why would any one run xunil on swodniw

  • I always used Virtual PC or Virtual Box.

I have no idea if this thing you were talking about does the same thing or now.

  • Thanks Chris! Was looking for something like this since I've gotten back into gaming. Loved using ubuntu but didn't want to have to deal with all the crashes wine gave with most of the games.
