@herflik16 Refer to 43airschool - its cheaper , approved by the CAA , well I need help too : I am doing O-level Physics , Maths , English , French, Biology , chemistry and computing. hey ive heard that students that cant afford the price of pilot training can do so by using their houses mortgage but it is quite risky because if you fail training you can loose your mortage and the government will claim your home? is this true or am i completely wrong, please correct me and could you give me more details about funding and finance?, thank you very much
hi im 14 and my lifelong ambition is to become a pilot for an commercial airline something along the lines of BA or Emirates what can i do now to improve my chancesof achieving this goal? please write back a.s.a.p
I am 19Years old ,I live in Canada.Currently going to Trinity Western university to get my Degree in Avaition .I was Just wonderning how long did u wait to get a job with BA after u got your degree.
Hi Mark, What is the likelihood of being employed by BA or Virgin Atlantic after graduating? Is it very difficult and how many hours of flying experience must you have for both? Cheers.
i am 16,live in germany and want to become an airline pilot...i am thinking of first studying aerospace engineering and after that join oxford aviation academy and i just wanned to ask some questions...how much time it takes to earn all the licenses in oaa?And when u finish,do u have a sure job?
I have question well i have finished my GCSEs I failed at Maths thats all but passed on English and Science. Im not onto A-level Business studies im finishing that off. So what are my chances of making it into OAA or any other Aviation academy with a single A-level and few GCSEs.
I was born in the Netherlands, however I currently live in New Zealand. I obtain a British and a Dutch passport, am I eligible to join APP.
I am currently doing CPL/IFR theory however there are no jobs in New Zealand, and I plan to move back to Europe soon, would this affect my entry to APP.
Hey i want to be a pilot but i have no clue where to start. i love flying, but i have no experince with a real plane but i have done alot of simming could you help me please.
thanks. I really want to start training, but i need to give my parents some reassurance that there is going to be a prospect of a job at the end of it. 80K+ in debt is no joke. what advice would you give me? just finished my A levels, do not want to go to uni... many thanks, oh and which airline did you go to? and who paid for your TR. sorry for the all the questions.
The reassurance is in your back-up plan (if you have one?).... If you have a strong backup plan then a pilots licence is an investment for a future. If you dont have a backup plan then yes £80K is a BIG gamble!!
I'm with BA and they pay for all the type rating costs.
Not really, I am good with computers having built and maintained them since 13 and completed a computing Alevel however they're not really employable skills without specific IT qualifications tbh. If the worst comes to it i can get a job in retail or supermarkets or whatever to pay the loan back, will be tough like 7days a week for only 13/14k or so a year but will keep the bailifs away.. so what repayments are we talking per month.? I really want to start but ...dnt want 2 see parents bankrupt!
Problem is working at tescos isnt exactly a great thing to put on the CV after doing a professional pilots course. Dont get me wrong its better than being on the dole.
When you finish training and dont get a pilot job, you ideally need to get a job within aviation (eg airlines, cabin crew, groundstaff etc) or get a very high paid job --> then spend all the extra cash on keeping your flying licences current.
Keeping current and keeping yourself EMPLOYABLE is the key to the game.
Thanks :)just been watching your how to become video.. really well put together, I just left the air cadets after 4 years and did 6 flying/gliding scholarships but ive decided war games are not my cup of tea.and yea that seems like a much more logical idea post ATPL . Im thinking of working really hard for about 1 year, save maybe 8/9k i know its not much but better than nothing then start on the course, thing is i cant bloody wait! Thanks for all yr advice and sharing yr accounts with the public
I disagree. There are lots of different ways to become a pilot. No right or wrong way. What matters is you can pass all the exams, get a job and be a proficient pilot.
Im in year 11 going to do my gcse's inabit. Predicted all passes B+ and can take maths n physics with the grades i got allready at A level so i pritty strong. But what shall i do about joining a flight scholership or flight school or what shall i do???? money wise aswell???? MANY THANKS .
Hi i've just finished my GCSE'S and I am now in collage
my grades:
English: A
Maths:B
Science:B
Art:B
ICT:C
History:D
I was just wondering if this was enough to be an airline pilot, at the moment i am doin 4 A levels then hope to go on from their, any advice for me would be great, thanks :)
ok im 14 started year 10. so what i need to become pilot schoolwise is 5 gcse's c grade including double science and maths and also would be beneficial if i got a levels in physics and maths is that correct? also did u do ur course in london?
Yes that is the bare minimum required. But you want to be aiming for the best grades you can get to improve your competitiveness to get a job or sponsorship.
AP264, have u ever been on the PPRuNe forums? If you have is all their negativitiy about the job true or is it just all the middle aged pilots who haven't got a job being grumpy?
Hi i am 14 years old i live in mexico but i am american citizen, and i want to become a pilot for a mayor airline, i now that i need to worry about school in this moment ,but i ben looking aviation schools and i like Oxford Aviation Academy i went to the web site and i wanted to now if i can studie PPL,CPL, multi engine , ATPL and APP first officer there , and another question was if when you finnish studing do you get hired inmediatle
The Oxford school is for JAA or CAA licences; ie working in europe. To work in europe you need to be a european citizen. look for schools in mexico /usa
wow i see a lot of your freinds got into klm flying 747's, not bad for your first airline job, one day i hope to be flying 777's.
i live in Canada, we dont have HUGE airlines like europe does, im hoping to get into Air Canada Jazz as my first pilot job, and i have a backup if that doesnt work out.
and i was just wondering, in high school, do you have to be in say pure math(top level) or can you be lower, im not that great in math :'(
I think it helps if you can show that your maths is good standard by getting good grades in it at school. So if it means putting in extra work or getting extra tuition - i would strongly suggest it.
Having said that however, No you dont need advanced maths skills to be a pilot.
I have used pythag like once so far at BA. If you have an ILS aproach path flideslope of say 3.2degrees you can use it to work out a set of dme distances and height gates - which are useful for approach planning. Apart from that I dont really use any other maths in flight.
I am 20 years old and i did not manage to get a C or above in my GCSEs in English, but i have all the other ones, i have a good BTEC national diploma in Construction and structural mechanicswhich is equivalent to 3 A-levels, and i am now studying at uni for a degree in Quantity Surveying and Commercial management. What i need to know is if OAT would even look at me if i dont have a C in English gcse
do you think it is better to have degrees. or is it ok just to go straight in at 18. if so what degrees would you recomend. from your other video i hear you now work for B.A did you need any other qualifications
Firstly the average age of students on this type of course is 24. So there is no rush or advantage to go in straight at 18.
I have a degree. Infact all who got BA on my course have degrees... However, there are guys who got BA at 19 without degrees etc.
Dont do a degree "for the sake of doing one", do it because you want to do one, or have a good backup plan if the flying career doesnt work out (no jobs/lose medical etc).
A degree is not a requirement to be an airline pilot. However it may make you more 'appealling' to an airline.
I had a a degree in Engineering. It is a very well resepected degree subject and I can get a very good job in any career area except Law and medecine. Not many other degrees give you that sort of flexibility.
ok thats great i shall think hard on what i will do. im only 15 and at the moment i am doing my ppl . do you think this is a good idea or waste of money ? thanks for all your answers its greatly appreciated nd iv watched ur videos and they are all amazin
if you are only 15 then you still have ages to worry about training etc. At the moment concentrate on your school work, if you can try and get Alevels which include maths and physics as airlines like BA like that.
Do whatever subjects you want, more importantly ones that you enjoy and can do well at (eg get top grades).
Having said that it is definately a benefit if the subject you do at alevel include maths and physics, but dont do this to the detriment of what I said in the first paragraph.
"Applicants for the APP First Officer course may apply to attend the Skills Assessment upto 6 months before their 18th birthday. They must have a minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above and these must include English language, mathematics and either physics or double science. Overseas applicants must have the equivalent of the above or higher. A-levels are not required; however, many airlines give hiring preference to those who have A-levels or otherwise meet university entrance requirements"
And obviously you have to pay for the course yourself, so you will need FUNDING (sponsorship/loans/savings etc) as another prerequisite. Hope that helps.
could you please tell me what A-levels chris did

if you are only 15 then you still have ages to worry about training etc. At the moment concentrate on your school work, if you can try and get Alevels which include maths and physics as airlines like BA like that.
Enjoy the PPL flying.

So can i do French Geography maybe a science At A level but still get to be a Pilot.
Or do i have to take maths physics and something else to be a pilot. It's really confusing
Most of these guys in the video dont look like they did.

Do whatever subjects you want, more importantly ones that you enjoy and can do well at (eg get top grades).
Having said that it is definately a benefit if the subject you do at alevel include maths and physics, but dont do this to the detriment of what I said in the first paragraph.

So i can become a pilot without taking maths and physics at A level.
On the other hand taking GEO would be good for navigational purposes. And language.
GCSE Im in year 10 going into yr 11 I ve taken Double English, maths, R.E, Physics, Chemistry ,Biology, Env Science,Geography and French.

Yes you dont need math/physics as Alevels, but it would be "beneficial" to have them.
Geography at Alevel has nothing to do with navigation/maps etc. Its about geology/rocks/hills/natural disaster etc!!

here what qualifications do you need to get into Oxford or do you just pay money?
declan118 2 years ago
