  • What a crap review. The tests needs to be conducted so that neither back has an advantage and both are as even as can be. If the gearing is to tall change it. Who would buy the 1098 over the RR? The RR is in effect, so much more motorcycle and its potential is way more vast.

  • DUCATI!!!!!

  • Beautiful Bikes Great review!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • way to make fast bikes look slow..

  • @Countavery as he said at 0:33-0:38 that just in case anything happens so i believe that the put 1198 (full racing) fairings on it so it doesnt mess up the original fairings if it happens to crash.

  • mcn has got to make some of the worst videos on youTube

  • @DSPPaige but i still love watching them work

  • the mcn reviews are about the worst ones I've seen all over the internet.

  • @blubbbla1987 agreed....

  • Buy a 1198 and ride the thing and save the cash. Leave the Desmosedici to the rich guys who think they can buy skills or think it will impress girls, lol. No woman could tell the price difference between a Desmosedici and a 1198, to them they both will look cool, but a nice car will look cooler, lol :)

  • both are good bikes, but it depends of the driver...... you can give the best bike in the world to a cheap driver, and sucks.... and the cheap bike in a hand of a good driver looks awesome.... anyway for me 1098 look better than desmo 16

  • desmo looks to try and not over take lol desmo vs s1000rr?

  • For me, a version without the music would have been more enjoyable.

  • LOL very very fortunate vs just very fortunate

  • the clash of the titans..<3!!!and the 2 are very beautiful..we love DUCATI...

  • watched so many of these vids this guys voice makes me wanna ride

  • where are the times when mechanis were at the bike and not a programmer

  • wait... they're comparing a $20,000 motorcycle to a $90,000 motorcycle? and yet they still have to give the desmosidici a little bit of an advantage? lol

  • Neevesies has a barbed wire armband tattoo?

  • The winner is the girl with the biggest breasts.

  • the desmosedici is just fucking expensive but looks excellente

  • 15 People own Hyosungs!

  • fucking music

  • So true about personal preference of bike. I mean honestly, by the Desmosidici should walk all over the 1098 but in order to accurately compare both bikes, you require a extremely skilled rider who will push both bikes to the limit. I personally like the look of the 1098R, however the Desmo is something to be honored. As far as I know, it is the first time a replica MOTO GP bike has been manufactured for the public. Yes there are replica SBK versions of the 1098R and respect to that bike.

  • @MWDDude i'm not sure but wasn't the honda repsol the first?

  • @stek1979 The Repsol Honda 1000RR has the decals of a MOTO GP bike but the Desmo is replica from the frame all the way thru.

  • @MWDDude the Aprilia RS250 would class as a genuine MotoGP replica, but obviously not in the same class is the Desmosedici. . .

  • @pantsman29 The Aprilia RS250 is a different class from MotoGP. it was in the Moto250 class if memory serves me...

  • so nice!!!!!!

  • but the music was not used, only the motor

  • Yanks can't ride, talk to Ben Spies and Nicky Hayden.

  • @Tommy1198S

    Kevin Schwantz,Wayne Rainey,Kenny Roberts,Freddy Spencer,John Kocinski,Kenny Roberts Jr. , Ben Bostrom

  • @17james17 You are correct, all Great American Riders. However in my original post i meant to write some Great American riders currently competing at the top level and included Colin Edwards.

  • @emtildeath

Really? Hmm, good job that I'll only buy one when I go back to Canada then, because most of the Desmos in that hemisphere are in the USA (Canada only got like 3), and those Yanks don't ride them (as if they cud properly anyway :P ), they just keep them in air-conditioned garages and trailer them to bike shows and such!

  • @emtildeath Actually mate I'm 27 :P I'm in Ireland atm working, but will be going back to Canada in 3 yrs where they'll hopefully be around $50 000 in a few years, which is doable

But anyway, I just checked autotrader and the cheapest was £35 000, if they were £25k now, I'd probably sell my Multistrada, buy a scooter to get to work and then buy the Desmo IMMEDIATELY! :)

  • WHY MUSIC??? WHYYYYY?????

  • well they're both standard....apart from this, that, that and that.... yer very standard! haha

1098 all the way though, also such a beautifull bike

  • @murderersarm Awesome!!!!

I AM going to own a Desmo one day, even if I have to be like one guy who had a £500 car in order to afford the Desmo!

  • The DD RR is like a shelby supersnake. Excessive HP, loud, and beautiful to watch. But I agree with the host I would stick with the 1098R. its sleeker, has more managaeble HP and cant possibly be beat in turns.

  • what i see is that the 1098r can beat the RR........ u just need a good rider,,,, the RR is not THAT sports bike killers that DUC try to persuade us.......

on track the RR is not a deal ... cost to much for nothing.,....u just have a collector,, that works well,,,, not THE ULTIMATE chrono killer.....

got a 1198 S and honestly,,i find it sexier than the fish face of the RR....

    ..

cannot wait VALE on the DUC',,,, FORZA ITALIA.......

  • Two of my favourite bikes of all time

  • fuck this terrible music

  • ummm thats an 1198 not 10

  • I could have bought either bike today. A second hand D16RR for $80,000 or a new 1098R Bayliss Edition for $50,000(marked down from $60,000 for a mid year sale). I took the 1098R.

  • @bradlez996... a 2nd hand Desmo for $80K??? You would've gotten ROBBED considering they sold new for $72.5 (w/out a previously purchased 999r) and they go on eBay all the time for around $60K.

Either way you couldn't have gone wrong on any of those bikes--- just on the purchase price!

  • @jaxgsxr

I just checked where this dude is from, and hes an Aussie, thus explaining the apparently higher purchase price.

  • @bradlez996 im jealous

  • Umm... Hmm... They say the Desmo was geared too tall, but they put a larger rear wheel on it?

  • nice video, but whats the deal with MCN and the gay background music, i mean wtf, you are riding superbikes, this sounds like a cooking tv show music or something, tell your post-prod guy to use some action music or something, good video tough

  • He says that they made modifications to give the desmo a chance the desmo is faster and a better bike the 1098r is just behind that. 1198r is probably even with desmo and don't hate I know what I'm talking about my dad is a rep for ducati.

  • @Diablo5074... you're damn right the Desmosedici is the better bike!!

  • the sound of a ktm rc8 r is the best sound of all superbikes ...

  • @Alecks1990 ducati have the best sound in the race

  • y is the desmosedici so much more expensive than the 1098R ???

  • @hvkv0000 because its a motogp replica bike, that engine is only produced for sale in the desmosedici rr, thats why

  • Why does the 1098R have 1198 stickers on the fairing?

  • @Countavery 1098R is 1198cc

  • @boombasticnl I understand the 1098r is 1198cc's but the 1098r is not the 1198

  • @Countavery

  • @Countavery Cause it's actually an 1198 its the new cc for the newer models, give the Itailian a little break he no good at english. ha

  • @zachebbs50 No. The 1098r has always been 1198cc's. 1098r and 1198 are different bikes.

  • @Countavery

its because the 1098R has an 1198cc engine

  • @rarerrac the 1098R should still have a 1098R sticker regardless. I think it's simply because it's a track bike and with track bikes, you slap on whatever fairings you have after it goes down.

  • @Countavery hehehe :-P

  • @Countavery technically the 1098R is an 1198. The 1098 and 1098 S had 100 fewer cc's than the R version. Maybe this guy just put the 1198 logo on it to look cool at the time, not knowing the 1198 would be real in a year or two.

  • @Countavery that was a different bike they filmed not the actuall bike that they raced i think

  • @Countavery its just a 1198 racing fairing put on the bike

  • @Countavery stickers add an extra 0.100 litres to the engine duh

  • @Countavery The engine is actually 1198cc. It's because Ducati took advantage (despite calling it a 1098) of the 1200cc cap.

  • Italy's motors (bike or car) its the best....in the world!!!I happy to are italian

  • so theyre standard apart from the £6k exhaust, slick tyres, race bodywork... yeah theyre standard? what a ridiculous thing to say

  • @flyingrhino90 ..exactly. MCN yet again talking outta they`re gary glitter.

  • @flyingrhino90 kind of like my neighbors supra.. its pretty standard too, apart from the carbon hood, twin turbos, etc #LOL

  • I'm usually sold with MCN reviews but I refuse to believe the 1098 is faster than the Desmosedici on any track :P. Perhaps if it was Sete Gibernau on the Desmosedici and Troy Bayliss on the 1098 I would believe it

  • can you do a video on jap vs duc

  • What a crap! Of course the Desmosedici RR is the faster bike. Otherwise evrey guy who both a "Sedici" would been waisting about 60 000.- which is the price difference between the two...;-)

  • @Vogulisy perhaps they wanted to see the difference ?!

    just use your brain

  • What's that guy's name again? He always does a great job introducing Ducs.

  • Um is it just me or does the bike they are talking about say 1198???

  • @ZXNinja9 damn, good call man, you're right, thats 1198 they are racing

  • A 1098R is actually bored out to 1198.

  • The Desmo is a limited edition racing 1198.

  • Iy would have been better if they went more into detail with the bike's eg lap times' if they rode both bike and there times respectfully. the guy on the 1098 looks alot stronger on the brakes wonder how he went on the desmo?

  • why is the D16 4 cylinders? Whats the purpose of that?

    which bike is lighter?

  • desmosedici is not 4 cylinders but is a double bicylinders...it's much different ;)

  • desmosedici is 4

  • desmosedici has no four pulses for cylinders like the others but the combustion is working in twins cylinders in asimmetric way, this Twin Pulse, instead of the four pulse make ducati desmosedici's behavior more similar to the ducati's traditional bycilindric motors. So yes has for cylinders but is like a double bicylinders for the reason I explained about how they are working..I drive a Ducati and I'm Italian so believe me ;)

  • that street Desmosedici is way to tame. sounds so much like a streetbike not a GP bike

  • Fully agree

  • What was done to tame it down?

What could you do to improve the 1198?

  • @yoGOES It comes from the factory tame for the street. If it wasnt it would not be street legal. Have you heard a desmosedici gp in person LOL? The only thing that is the same about the street desmosedici rr and the race desmosedici gp is the engine design and capacity of 990cc. Crank is lighter, Cams are degreed more advance, Pistons are higher compression, engine mapping is different and no db killers on the race bike. Headwork, HC pistons will improve the 1198 or just buy a 2010 1198R corse

  • thanks for responding but I was looking for actual numbers on how it is different. thanks though

  • 1098R looks so beautiful

  • The windshield on the Desmo looks nicer though

  • hahahaha so much for the hype

  • dude on the desmo really wants his knee on the ashvalt. and he's not making good knee-downs so the way he does it

    looks retarded

    pardon my english i'm dutch

  • I suppose he is afraid of destroing so expensive bike :-)

  • The 1098R has actually 1198cc. You can read the specs on the ducati site!

  • The twin has 1198 written on the side of the fairing so why is this guy calling it 1098?

  • ducati forever amazing bikes

  • What's with the generic music? I'd way rather hear the bikes...

  • how many cc is the desmosedici??

  • 990cc or 989cc i can't remember. the 1098r is 1198cc

  • i think its 1098 or 1198 at least 1 of the 2 ;)

  • 989 cc, enough ' :)

  • Mike lives the dream!

  • so the $80k bike is slower? :(

  • Not necceserilly, almeria is tight and twisty the desmocedici can't stretch it's legs, in britain this bike costs £40,000 and the 1098R (with 200cc more than the desmo) costs something like £35,000 so it's not like it's going up against your everyday street bike, even the 1098r is a wepon on track. at a track with higher average speed it could be diffrent.

  • riding a ducati is really a different experience...feelings that you would never get from any Jap bike

  • wonder how an r1 or gsx-r1000 would stack up with these 2.

  • they wouldn't - because the straight is not long enough *lol*

  • Both bikes are amazing.... but it depends on the track, the 1098r has a higher cornering speed that the d16rr, but that one has more top speed..... on a track like Assen the Desmo would win....

  • gimme V twin anyday

  • Ok..so if the 1098R is a "hair" quicker...why the hell is it almost ALWAYS behind the D16RR in the video?

  • Wanker! Which is better or quicker as it should be depends allot on rider skill and variance. In addition, it's not just about which bike is quicker, come on if you had a choice would you not choose the RR? Don't get me wrong the 1098R is beautiful.

  • il dotore could desimate the 1098r in a standard of the factory desmocedici

  • 1098 has 180bhp right ? how many has the new duc ?

  • 1098r is faster of course. Reason therfor is the castration of the desmo

  • Comment removed

  • god damnit another music video. is there any video on youtube where i can hear the desmo exhaust without a U2 concert

  • Great video, both bikes are amazing. Was surprised with the result, really expected the demo to win guess it shows all the extra ££££ to buy one makes small difference compared to other bikes, it's still the best sounding bike around though!

  • Just realised there is something wrong with this video!

There aren't thousands of American fanboys bombarding the comments box claiming the Harley Davidsons are faster, better, cheaper etc etc.

Sorry ive just been watching video of Porsche GT2 beating a Corvette, different world, on 2 wheels the Americans go very quiet.

  • First off, I'm an American. Second, any American who claims that harleys are faster or cheaper than the Ducati bikes is naive. However, claiming that they are "better" may be a matter of opinion to some people. Personally, I am a huge fan of Ducati, Aprilia, and the Italian bike makers in general. I own a Ducati Monster and I want to get one of the superbikes down the road.

Anyway, I just wanted to make it clear that there are Americans who appreciate good Italian bikes, too.

  • By the way, great vid! Ducati all the way!

  • Agreed im a sucker for an Italian Bike and im American as well. i actually dont like the American Bikes.

  • and we appreciate american's bikes too :) You can buy a Ducati for cheper price than me, this I don't like about Ducati :( or same price, or threat national bikers with a bit of reguards isn't it fair?

  • bro what the fuck are you talking about? You sound like an ignorant prick. Besides who in their right mind would compare a harley to a 1098r?

  • Same people that would compare a Ferrari 599 to a Corvette ZR1?

No sorry just kidding, I wrote the earlier comment after arguing with some idiot that thought the ZR1 was the best car in the world.

  • this is a video about two badass ducati's why in the FUCK are you talking about goddamn cars? the zr1 looks like typical american bullshit i must agree, but the bottom line is, ducati HANDS DOWN makes the most spine tingling, grin-administering, badass sound....period. takes your car comments back to 8 mile where they came from...fag

  • iiredeye, You're the biggest fanboy I have seen here. I have read all 100 comments that came before yours and not one mentions a Harley. The only thing American that comes anywhere near close to a Duc is a Buell and they do not race WSBK. So Buell is not yet close to Ducati. Aside from a hand full of open minded sport bikers the commentary here is a Ducati fans dream.

  • Buell do not race because is a pretty good bike, pretty good looks, but motor is not great, harley don't need presentation, is the most famous bike in the world, but has no bikes in the category of Ducati's bike except Buell that still has to grew up so much in their motors. Recently I was reading about an harley that comes like a naked to go in the naked market but with a competitve motor and affordable price (13-14000 dollars about) I don't remember model but I like :)

  • Not all Buells sport Harley engines. Toward the end Erick Buell started to use the Austrian Rotax engine on their race oriented bikes, which really stepped up the performance. Still they had to bend the rules to get the Buell to win the AMA title it now carries. If I lived in a world where I had to chose between an American Buell or an Italian Ducati based only on performance it would be the Duc that would win my dollars. Still I love both to be honest.

  • That's a good new! I didn't this, but I know Rotax engines and are fantastic. Hope that Buell will grow up like deserve with this new motors.

  • While you can still buy Buells and Harley will honor their warranties, sadly Harley Davidson dropped the Buell line and does not have plans to make any new ones. Erik Buell has gone back to racing, well building race prepped Buells for interested buyers. If I had the money I would pick one up right now as it very well could become a collectors item in the future. As for me I am looking into Norton, Triumph and Ducati I don't have the money for a Buell right now.

  • so it means that Erick Buell will not update bikes with the new engines for big market? If it's like that, is not so good new, I would like to see a Buell with a prepotent engine like in Ducati's bikes,he miss nothing to have it and Buell is a very good looking products then with a rorax motor could open a good prospective in naked category

  • @piwright42 ...and Buell's are made like crap. I went to MMI, and there we worked on some Buells. We would have to replace bolts and what not after just a few assembly/disassembly cycles because the threads would be all ruined. re-tapping holes in cast parts was fun too. it's like the whole bike is made of cheap chinese castings. when you take one apart and look at how they're put together it's really embarassing to call that america's best effort at a superbike. just half-assed.

  • your an idiot...we could find a couple dozen videos of corvettes beating porsches but nobody cares ..stop reading the comments if you don't realize the whole world has idiots, and nobodies denying America has her share... but guess what you just joined the idiot group for your comment...cause your all high on your media-built chair when in reality you have no right to be arrogant, and if you brush up on your history you'd realize that... apology rejected douche

  • How sexy is this?

Awesome vid, but would have loved to see the MV Agusta in there with them.

  • RR_____________super racing the best top speed

  • i would be scared driving trew that sand with these jewels

  • the size of the bike da u dumb choperu s23

  • which isthe best??

  • So why does it say 1198 on the bike they say is a 1098?

  • The fairing was a race fairing from a different bike. However, a 1098R is actually 1198cc.

  • Other way isnt it?

    1098 and 1198 are both 1098cc.

  • Nope...1098 is a 1098, 1098R is 1198cc, 1198 is 1198cc.

  • exactly, 1098 is 1098 cc, 1098R has 1198 cc, 1198 has 1198 cc. but between an 1198 and a 1098R I absolutely have no doubts to buy a 1098R, is ready to race, is the bike that is winning everywhere, 1198 is not still.. :)

  • a bike around a track thats got to be harder then a car

  • It most certainly is. Riding a bike is always gonna be more difficult than driving a car, because it's so much more raw. There's no assistance when riding bikes like this. It's you, two wheels, and an engine the size of a tailgate cooler between your legs.

  • this shows its not the bike, its the rider

  • I've ridden a D16 and it's breath taking. Got home and downloaded the data logger. The rear wheel got up to 184 mph on a short straight and it was still pulling hard. Geared for about 175 would be fantastic. After about 50 miles I was wanting more power. So that's what heroin is like? And how did they get it to feel as natural to ride as a Monster? Unreal bike. Pure fantasy brought to reality.

  • cool

  • strepitoso

  • they should try this at Assen.

would be a bit of a different story there xD

I think the desmo would win there by couple o` 10ths... ^^

but I don`t really care, every Ducati is amazing, and perfect in my opinion xD

  • Desmo all the way baby!

  • free like a bird

  • i love the sound of a Ducati.... unique, and so different then the average Japanese motorcycles.

  • I ran into an inline rider who said that he didn't like the sound of the dry clutch and would never buy a Ducati because of it. I would never buy a Ducati with a wet clutch, it's just an attempt to attract inline riders. I wish that Ducati would just stick to what they do best, which is everything that sets them apart from the others.

  • People think my Multistrada sounds like a tractor! And sometimes at lights I pull the clutch in so that it doesn't annoy people in cars at traffic lights (in Ireland we filter, so i'm usually about 3 inches away from their door). Its a bit of an annoyance in that regard, but I suppose its part of the Ducati "character" (I hate it tho wen arrogant Duc riders say Jap bikes have no character - simply not true)

  • sound is the base, what to us is giving smile just to turn on our ducati. I know it's annoyng some people around in some place, but without I don't knpw if I can love it in the same. To us, in Italy (also depend from place to place) is not so annoyng for people that listen this tractors, they are encouraging like you are racing :). better to drive a ducati in places where you can, not in a city of course, what's enjoing in this moto in a city? can't make noise, can't run..

  • wow brilliant comment retard. Rolleyes

  • facciamola giuda a stonner..cosci la raddoppia la 1098R..hahahah

  • stoner raddoppierebbe pure se stesso :)
