  • It's a rare occurrence anymore. But I remember well when I was little, I saw the dam release the spill water. I am 22 now and I seriously remember it back then...it use to be common.

  • Fantastic video!

Your site is one of the gems of youtube.

  • @memphisdrean Thank you I really do appreciate your comment.

  • I was there when I was about 13 and the guard came outside and let us go inside, into the tube that runs from end to end, I think he said we were 3-6' feet from the water.

  • My great-grandfather helped build that dam.

  • hey thanks for subscribing back

  • I just adore the stories. My Daddy passed away when I was 25 so I never really got to enjoy the experiences in his life.

I saw your video in Jim (CCTT's) recent activity and had to come check it out, I'm so glad that I did.

I was mesmerized the entire time!! Lovely posting!!!!

What beautiful country y'all have up that way! The older gentlemen are just way cute, ya just wanna give them a big ol' hug and kiss on the cheek!!!

  • another nice video keep up the good work . maybe sometime you wiill do one on the kingdom come state park and how the black bear have returned there .

  • Thanks for the tip on Kingdom Come State Park in Kentucky. I worked in Whitesburg at the then AM Radio Station WTCW in 1962, but I havent been to that area in over 45 years. You have given me an excuse to visit this summer. If I do I will post a video of the trip.

  • I grew up here and my grandfather worked on building this dam and also worked in the powerhouse until his retirement in 1967. I was able to run all over the place inside the dam including the tunnel that is inside. This is only my 4th time seeing it go over in my 60 years of being here. My mom only saw it twice in her lifetime. My grandfather also helped build this dam.

  • I was inside the dam once during the 40s while on a class trip.

  • Some real history there. Imagine that, recalling seeing FDR himself turn it on! How did you run across those gentlemen?

  • Being a semi-old & young guy myself helps. :)
