  • 9 people like nicki minaj

  • This stuff is odd to me, but it's still cool, and even more cool that she has a following. So tired of all the force fed talentless pop out there these days...

  • Shes so cute.

    "May I call you Annie?"

    "Please" :)

  • wow its rare to see such a good performance on one of the late night talk shows - usually their sound guys f it up! what a sick brass section!!

  • Letterman's reaction is rarely appropriate, but he nailed it here. "Euuuughhhhh, nicee"

    Filthy goodness.

  • AAAAAIIIIIII...love her.

  • Che fantastica canzone!!!!!

  • watch this far too often... can't believe this only has 140k views.

  • She says, "la la la..."

    And her guitar says, "GRAAaarrrgghh!!"

    llllove...

  • YEAH

  • ....dat sax

  • The sound of the instruments are so distinct. It makes it so much funkier. I agree that this live version is better than the recorded one.

  • Five people dislike this? Suck a fuck you five asshole retards.

  • @jessman7447 would you only listen to music that 100% of people can relate to? why is that so? i'd still love this song if there were only 5 people liking it.

  • @iwantahat Must have been in a bad mood that day. But I'm not sure what you mean, as pertaining to what I wrote.

  • @jessman7447 ...So it's not okay for people to have their own opinions without you attacking them verbally, aye? The only asshole retard I see here is YOU.

  • @DragonInTheSky7979 Must have been having a bad day that day, dragon master/wizard humper. Sorry about that.

  • The chorus is so sick! Wow!

  • Act-our? wtf letterman

  • Amazing! She has just as much grit and feeling as she does in the album version, maybe more. I love it when an artist can deliver live as well as in studio. True talent.

  • Fantastic, think I even prefer this to the album version.

  • @xtc340 No late night show has a better live sound than The Late Show. Probably because it's the old Ed Sullivan Theater. Even great bands on Conan sound meh. It's the studio space.

  • hahaha letterman "ehhhh"

  • this is the annie i remember.

  • Wow i loved it! Its funky yet modern and rock i don't even know i just really liked it and i did not expect her to play guitar or have actual horns playing. Beyond my expectations loved it!!!

  • at 1:08, Annie looks a little pleasantly surprised with how amazingly badass everything sounds. also, perhaps this version is better than the studio recording? lastly, where's colin stetson on bass sax?

  • Effortlessly cool and badass.

  • feel bad for saying this but i found out about because kid cudi sampled her and she was live on jimmy fallon with him and cage. i like her voice and this song fucking awsome i mean look at her play that's talent so glad i found her.

  • Love this, reminds me of Laurie Anderson meets Prince

  • letterman: "euuuuoooo, very nice!"

  • Help me to forget this beauty

  • @roby8791 I can't I'm stuck too...

  • Help me to forget this beaty

  • Gives me chills and chills = sign of approval for me. Amazing live.

  • My favorite part is when she starts raping the guitar at about the 2:15 mark of the vid. Girl's got some mean riffing, yo!

  • i feel high on the groove.... @_@ triiipppped outtt

  • Haha, Letterman dwarves her. She's so cute.

  • omg if she let Prince jam on this???!!!

  • I demand the sheet music / tab to this music at once

  • funky!

  • Boner

  • Slow start, almost stopped listening, glad I waited., great stuff.

  • AMAZING!!!!!

  • The woman of my dreams.

  • This is the kind of music the play space, in the creation of the universe.

  • 4 people got to 1:24, grooved too hard and hit the dislike button by accident

  • i think letterman has a crush

  • @theallegory

I think everyone that lays eyes (and ears) on her has a crush.

  • musical genius.

  • My favorite part is at the end when she reaches out to shake Letterman's hand - look how cute and geeky she is.

  • @BrainEatingApe i concur

  • Dear god she fucking shreds.

  • She is incredibly talented in her lyrical writings, but even more amazing than that is how many instruments she can play and how well she can compose her songs. Such a dark feel while being so conflicted at the same time. As far as newer artists goes, she definitely ranks among one of my favorites.

  • Comment removed

  • amazing.

  • The groove that busts in at 1:24 just filthy.

    Annie Clark is beautiful.

  • @dtegg91 right there, it becomes beautiful. love this song.

  • Those saxes are sick. Very good performance, as always.

  • very Adrian Belew-esque guitar solo! love it when the vocal line joins the saxes

  • I think this is a better version than the one on the album. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a better quality version.

  • I can't really say I object to the lyrics. In the context of the music; they're both absurdist & poetic and seem appropriate. I thinks it's more about the thrashing performance and the music itself.

Frankly, I hear more mainstream music, daily, with trite, objectionable, bull shit lyrics; "Oh Girl...", "...wanna' do ya' all night", "...let's get funky..." ad nauseam; music that just fills the air without really trying to do anything new except satisfy a populace that have come to accept medioc

  • i agree that the MUSIC aspect of this song is totally kick ass not saying anything against that but the lyrics are just to goofy for my taste. oh and i have written a lot of songs and if you would like to hear them i would be happy to let you in on it. but you may not like them cause they dont sound like a 3rd grade anatomy class

  • @bunhun3 go back to your Nickelback videos.

  • I love her.

  • Comment removed

  • how fun it would be to play in their band....

  • @bunhun3 csak nembírod a nemszokványosat, ennyi az egész

  • @Parteque english please???!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @bunhun3 netörődj vele. egy kis hülye maradsz :D

  • @Parteque english please???!!!!!!!!!!!

    i dont understand it...

csak nembírod a nemszokványosat, ennyi az egész- EVEN THESE are better!

  • @bunhun3 and how many songs have you written? Seems to me even if this was the worst song ever written. its one more than youve ever composed...this song is brilliant, so go make another stupid cat video (how original).

  • @bunhun3 those horn lines are sick. your dog is talented. The world is jam packed full of stupid people.

  • @bunhun3 Pretty good troll post, I give you a C+

  • Now this is INSANE! EXCELLANT PATHOS ONCE AGAIN. Brilliant lyrics, brilliant alteration loud/quiet/loud formulary mixed to alchemical perfection in loungish goddessy wilesy way. Incredible, I am smitten, and bowled over, and if I was a guy I'd likely just #($ all over myself, no lie!!! Dangit. ;P

  • @aeonosphere woooah

  • what are you congratulating her for Dave? Letting you say her name?

  • this is brilliant, the future of indie, and the past?

what is that guitar she's using?

  • @henriclexD

That's gonna be a mid-60s Harmony H17 'Bobkat' . She seems to be favoring that one and her 1478 Silvertone (that's the 3-pickup red one, also made by Harmony) a lot lately.

  • shes so fucking awesome!!

  • I just saw her a few hours ago in a free concert @ Central Park. Can't stop listening her music. What was the name of that beautiful and long last song?

  • @vivelavidarocka I think it was "The Party." I may not be remembering correctly, though.

  • @jlange5184 Yeah it was that one! Thank you. What a great concert experience. I'm in love...I think...no, I'm sure now....Love you Annie, you rock.

  • Excellent performance.

I am disappointed the sound mixer put Annie's guitar so low in the mix.

  • @Mungo10 What's strange is that her guitar often seems that low in the mix to me.

  • f*k JJJ they never picked up this song

  • she is easily my favorite person in music right now, can't believe I haven't discovered st vincent sooner.

  • I just saw you guys at the Pitchforlk festival in CHICAGO!!! AMAIZING!!!! great sound, vocals, and beautiful convination of musical instruments!!! THANK YOU!!!

  • I don't know who in the right mind would give this performance a thumbs down!

  • Best performance on late night TV ever. This sound is gigantic.

  • she is a freaking beast

  • One of my favorite songs

  • Is it true that Shara Worden (of My Brightest Diamond) is one of the backup singers in this performance (possibly the tinier one to the right)? I know that she and Annie Clark have collaborated before... but it's too hard to tell if that's her or not?

  • Most of the lyrics were inspired by movies.

  • Fuck that was sick

  • I love the sax in this song. She is amazing.

  • most definitely better than studio version.

  • I think that this is going at a slightly slower tempo than the studio version, so that all the woodwinds can keep up

  • better than studio?

  • @dsilver010010

    definitely better than studio version

  • Holy shit, she's so good.

    and she can shred.

  • She has such a brilliant future ahead of her as a songwriter and interpreter. That is if the fat suits from her record company doesn't tell her what a to do.

  • @jbk1286 right you're saying one of the craziest chicks on guitar ruined a song almost with her solo...ok than, check out her live guitar performance of 'your lips are red on acl' and see if that can help you feel better on her guitar skills.

  • brilliant

  • It's even better live - how is that possible?

    Just incredible...

  • weird melody

  • awesome

  • sounds just as good live, as on the album!

  • Great song ! Great performance !!!!

  • what the fuck!!!?!?!? i have never...never heard soem of these sounds before!!!! fucking badass!!!

  • I love Actor and really love this song! It's like a mix between Portishead, Hot Chip, and Justice.

  • Wow! How tight, how sharp, how splendid a performance! This woman has enough compositional gusto to downright label most others as artistically inferior. I wish more songwriters could do what she does.

  • SUPER MASACOTE!!

  • BRILLIANT

  • This performance is amazing.

  • Just saw this amazing young lady here in Cincinnati at the MusicNow Fest. She and her band did NOT disappoint! Much appreciated, and Annie... you and your band are the sh*t!! Thanks for coming back to Cincy!! Thanks for wrapping up the tour here! You would never know that the band had been out so long. It was fresh and vibrant! And thanks for the great version of "These Days"!

  • @jcbeane53 Woo Cincinnati! Too bad I missed it, though . . . : (

  • wow. great find. thanks mrsammy

  • It's like if Bjork and Thom Yorke had a baby...St. Vincent would be her name. lol Love her.

  • The way she plays her guitar and the way she twitches...and wonder if she is a Steve Bartek fan? With the horn sections going on this version, it does kind of remind of something a little Boingo-ish. Very nice...and cute. ;)

  • pissweak JJJ has failed to play this :(

  • I am extremely happy to have recently learned of her existence.

  • shhh! better keep it a secret lest all these mainstream fuckheads'll learn of her too! :P

  • Man, When I found out about her and Iver on that damn Twilight soundtrack, I almost shot myself.

  • @TheCameraGuy001 mainstream? shes already been on letterman for christs sakes. watched by millions

  • Yeah man she's a gem of a secret. She's totally cool in my book regardless of unfortunate Twilight collaborations.

  • Isso é pura música moderna! Schoenberg ficaria orgulhoso.

  • Annie Clark is awesome.

  • They love and believe in the music they created, this is precious and why the outcome is this amazing. We should call this innovative, without a doubt.

  • WHOA... that's pretty funky!

  • What a fucking great performance. She knows how to shred!!! <3

  • Bee bob/rock Rythm and jazz ? What is it.....????

Very very very nice indeed...beautifull lady playing her guitar and those saxes....hmm

  • As phenominal as her voice is, the two bari saxes make this song!! BAP BAP BAP BAP-BAP-BAP-BAP

  • lol, his ooOOoh, very nice! is hilarious XD he always does something awkward before people are even really done.

  • UGH, that chorus is SO addicting... Especially the first time they run through it... Get to see her live in about two hours... so excited! B]

  • She is so hot.....

  • uhhhhhh very nice

  • this is INSANELY amazing!!!! I hope this is the future of indie/alternative music. I do love a lot of tuff on this album. The lyrics are very dark - sounds like her childhood wasn't too much fun. I'm looking forward to her next one.

  • @gothamfoodie I can't WAIT for the next one. She rocks! I love the contrast on the album.

  • @gothamfoodie lol

  • Best Letterman Performance EVER...

  • @focalized thats rally hard to say man! watch the performance of the flaming lips and youll get it

  • @gothamfoodie If you think this performance is good, you should see her do the same tune on Austin City Limits. Much better! She thumps it.

  • You were expecting caged pentatonics with bends and vibrato?

  • Kate Bush? Not even close. Haha what a friggin' idiot...

  • Lol, this sounds nothing like Kate Bush. Like...not even slightly.

  • oh come on, if you don't hear a kate bush similarity in this you haven't listened to a lot of kate bush. or you're deaf... because there are a lot of similarities.

  • @drummergirl1025

    Like. No.

  • i saw her and talked to her twice this year... got a high-5 + her water bottle!

  • @Agentss7s9 i am insanely jealous

i fear i may pass out if that ever happens to me

  • @youthnovels13 Yeah. I'm kinda scared to be in the same room with her. I'm gonna have a heart attack or something. (She's playing here Tuesday!!!)

  • love the song bought the cd based on the utube clip....this version is by far the best(mix) shame jjj wont play it :(

  • the winds in the beginning are like the forest murmurs in Wagner's Siegfried. Love that

  • holy shit that chorus is catchy!

  • the album is incredible. it didn't want to leave my cd player. so good

  • so fucking awesome. undeniably amazing. st vincent is the best thing to come from berklee in a long-ass time.

  • At the begining you see her start to smile while singing. I know that feeling she felt at that point. She was so happy with the sound. Ive played a couple of shows and that feeling is rare but when it happens you get this overwhelming joy you just have to smile. And i believe the house band helped her with that song and man did it make a big diffrence.

  • agreed. totally loved seeing her smile in that moment. that's the point when she realizes just how much she's blasting their faces off. or thinking: hi mom, I'm really on letterman!

  • she's so good playing the guitar!

  • This is an amazing preformance

  • On Letterman! And they sound great -- about time music of this caliber reached mainstream audiences.

  • Comment removed

  • I can't stop watching this. I wish her whole album was more like this.

  • the album is still quite great

  • As good as this is (and it is very good) this lady is a powerful presence to behold on her own, with only a guitar and some impeccably-timed loops; well worth seeking out. Buy 'Actor'. And I dare you not to fall in love while you're at it...

  • Finally!! After more than 20 years, a heir to the Ambitious Lovers... Arto L must be so happy... Fantastic, hearty, generous, brilliant performance!

  • One of the best sounding, most quality performances I've ever seen on Letterman. I wish Interpol's performance on Letterman sounded like this back in the day...

  • The leg bone is connected to the head bone.

The head bone is connected to the hip bone.

The hip bone is connected to the rib bone.

  • Lookit her channel Neil Young circa "Rockin in the Free World" when she grunge solos. Awesome.

  • Interesting. Where did she get the extra brass? The house band? Gave the song some more force. And extra backing vocals as well.

The 4 guys in her band are great enough but the extra musicians were a treat.

  • The most interesting thing since Talking Heads.

  • Laurie Anderson meets Oingo Boingo...marriage made in virtuoso diva heaven
