  • that was pretty sweet dude. noyce

  • Id learn this and play it twice as fast

  • Do the make guitar straps that short?

  • Silly question: was this learned or an improvisation?

  • @pjarunek

The whole song is pretty much improvised. I wrote the song in a studio in a couple of hours by piecing together chunks of riffs I noodled together then I did some harmonies over them. Lots of fun but not the most musical as far as having a hook!

  • The 80s not up to today's standard? Screw today's mainstream crap, they can't be taken seriously and be compare with the 80s. 80s all the way yea \m/

  • I wonder if his guitar strap can get shorter???? But yeah, pretty sick!

  • They all sound the same..

  • Awsome playing! I love this style of lead. I typically study alot of this 80's shred style but what I have the most difficulty with is getting that awsome tone. Any advice?

  • I smell a hint of Malmsteen.

  • dood amazing job, i would like to know what bands influence u alot, cuz ur amazing.

  • @TheSonsofHorusx

Thanks - influences are Vinnie Moore, George Lynch, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jason Becker, Paul Gilbert...

  • you can always tell an ibanez by its sound ive noticed most ibanez guitars have tht trebely nice sound to them , i know many ppl might disagree with me , but no matter how u you set your equalization , an ibanez guitar will always give you that squel ! \m/

  • Great stuff Jeff!! Thanks!

  • malmsteen is still the best at this stuff, but man, this is a very nice work :D :D :D

  • I put on my black leather jacket and boots and drank a Jack and Coke to watch this.

  • sounds like jason becker

  • *rgb

  • Ibinez rugby series love em!

  • @jonathankulik

My Ibanez is a RG570 with scalloped frets from 12th to 24th fret.

  • this is frikkin amazing!! how did you come up with something this melodic??? Your technique is also amazing, especially the picking technique!

  • sounds a lot like Michael Angelo Batio's-"Lambourghini"

  • Great shredding man!

  • how is this classical?

  • @bebeard17 its not, its neo classical

  • @kaboom6899 where's the classical part. Just sounds like power metal to me.

  • @bebeard17

If you can't hear the classical bits, you're deaf. It's not 100% neo-classical, but you can definitely hear it in a lot of parts. Especially the tapping licks.

    Sounds very Randy Rhoads-esque.

    You using a JCM800 or a plexi?

  • @darkwolf291 cool, he knows weaving licks, but the main thing I consider constant in neoclassical is the melodicism and tonal coloring similar to classical. I have no doubt he can play neo classical, but this just sounds like he's improvising over a series of metal chord changes. I can't describe the difference to someone who doesn't listen to or play as much classical as I do, but this is just not over-the-top enough.

  • @bebeard17

I play some classical. Not a whole lot, but enough, but I listen to classical avidly. To me, it's more Randy Rhoads style. A mixing of usual metal and neo-classical stylings. Some parts are neoclassical, some aren't. I agree, it's not 100% classical, but there is definitely classical in it. Regardless of what label we put on it, it's very melodic and very good.

  • @darkwolf291

    I'm using a VHT Pitbull

  • Wow!!!!

  • are there any seven string guitatists out there that think that his guitar neck looks crazy thin?

  • @MMAxRideTheLightning That looks thin even for a six-string, I play Jacksons.

  • @whitbyjet65 Yes. Speak unto me your words of wisdom. And the taste of robins?

  • @lantenec I've never had the urge to lick one. Infact I think people who go around licking Robins are a bit strange.

  • 0:52-1:23 best part, besides the whole thing!

  • this style is winning

  • Omg, I am listening studio version all the time :D

the backing track is rly amazing :)

  • cool wristwatch

  • @adams1992pl

    It's a Rip Curl A2323 watch

  • Miles better than modern shred thats just all speed, the melody, the phrasing and the feel of this 80's neo-shred is still untouchable

  • this guy can fucking shred! :D

  • now i like chevrolet lol

  • scallopped frets FTW!

  • Everyone who likes this and hasn't heard of Vinnie Moore go and check him out now he plays alot like this in his first three albums

  • @Ihatemyusernamemore i kinda like marty friedman and jason becker better, especially their cacophony stuff, but yeah anything neo-classical satisfies me!

  • @DennChooch You might like this forum here. neoclassicalmetal . o r g Hope to see you around as we got a lot of info on neo-classical metal in one great place. I am neoshredder on that site btw. Hope to see you there.

  • @DennChooch Jason Becker and Marty Friedman were and will always be the best guitar duelists ever.I really Love Cacophony and all the ablums like Go Off and Speed Metal Symphony.Way to go dude.NEO CLASSICAL GUITARISTS ARE THE BEST.

  • He looks like he is about to mow the lawn. What happened to the ripped T-Shirt, ripped skin tight jeans, super long hair, boots, pierced left ear and gobs of silver jewelry?

But the man can still shred. Like many a dometicated urban Tarzan fom the 80's, you can take the shredder out of the 80's, but you can't take the 80's out of the shredder.

  • whoa doesn't 0:37 sound such a lot like the chorus to crazy train?? i swear it does.

  • Why Does Everyone Seem To Write Their Comments Like This?

  • Real guitar playing, how refreshing! It would be nice to hear some more of it coming from the major record labels!

  • THIS is such an awesome solo!

  • This Is WAY Better Than Today's Metal Shit!

This Is The Style That Randy Rhoads Used.

  • @DimebagFromHell1 i play the newer metal how ever will never leave 80's metal out cuz i love soloing DimeBag,Kirk hammet, Santana are my guys, ywngwie malmsteen, andreas Kisser, Jeff waters, zakk wylde, and many more i like these guys but i also ad a touch of paco de lucia and jose feliciano check them out they are amazing i have classical guitar influences aswell so i got a diverse style and very proud of it cheers brother oh PS. i suck at sweeping i need tons of practice , so far basic

  • this is what its all about baby !

    good job !

  • That guy must be a Vinnie Moore fan. I like what he's playing, though. Good job!

  • Thumbs up if you think Neo Classical guitarists are the best!

  • I hear some Yngwie and Vinnie Moore influence...this guy's pretty good; has that old school sound and influence...he's melodic

  • holy! great licks in there! thanks for uploading!

  • it doesn't sound clean.

  • @olabaz lol METAL dude, that's the distortion, not the playing

  • i have that guitar!

  • whoever said that it's not up to date is most probably a 13 year old fucking retard

  • shredtastic!!

  • Awesome /../, My hair is getting thin though.

  • For Neo-Classical songs, I'm always rooting to have the know how to make the rhythm to create such 'dark' elements, playing the solo with the backing track is hard sure, but creating one is even harder. :p

  • boring, I expected other thing

dont think those are amazing licks

i'd got tired arround the first minute.

  • @blveeye okey so go somewhere else and play a skinflut that wd be awesome for your kids!XD

  • Comment removed

  • God If i could have a tab to learn this that would be amazingg

  • what is he doing at 0:28 to 0:30? Here that a lot and cant figure it out

  • @kiyuemadkick

take a scale, choose a note as a pedal point, then descend downward through the scale one interval at a time, alternating each interval with the pedal point

actually, check this site out it's exactly what you're looking for: i cant link it here but google "pedal point guitar licks" and click the top link

  • @Endorush85 Thank you so much.

  • @ygmalmsteen

agree, i hear a lot of george lynch in there too

  • metal an classic is the same kind of music but metal is louder and faster :D

  • @nugs4200 What are you talking about?

  • Excelent melodies..80"s metal guitar are the best!!!

  • awesome

  • i usually don't like neo-classical stuff but i can tell you put a lot effort into this...nice

  • good job jack..!!you rock...!!

  • Bloody awesome playing dude! You can really shred! Like, Sub and a favourite :D I was wondering if anyone could help me though? I need to know how to write a decent song in 80s Hair Metal sort of style (like Ratt, Dokken, etc.). I play in a band with a mate at school and I normally play Heavy Metal but someone else wants to write a tune with me! They are really into Steel Panther so I was thinking something along those sort of lines......

  • I kinda liked it

  • fucking green screen lol

  • Thanks for supplying the backing track man. Should be fun as hell to jam on :)

  • fucking boring and he always plays the root wish are wery primitive!!!!!!!!

  • man this is great :D

    i liked the harmonies!

  • I have been looking for that 80's metal tone, and I was wondering what pickups do you have in your ibanez. Thanks.

  • Cool, and thanks for the backing track! :)

  • this is so fucking awsome

  • well

it may not be up to date with "today standards" but it's totally up to date with "my standards"!

    lol

    80's rules

  • @nandosarkis Today's Standards Have No Solos!!! If There Are Solo, They Don't Last And They're Not All That Good!!! 80's All The Way!!!

  • @DylanBStringer91 You're right about that.

  • @Epsilon3G Really? So im not the only one XD

  • now thats 80s metal melodic

  • แจ๋งดี

  • it's not up to date with today's standards?????

damned this is a lot better than today's standards :P

    great piece, excelent!

  • @valemadreishon agreed. Man i wish i grew up in the 80's!!!

  • there's standards of today? i hadnt realized cuz justin bieber jonas fags lady gaga lil wayne and miley slutres rule the "music" world if it can be called that

  • @frankenstrat25

I couldn't agree more. real rock and metal are only alive thanks to peolpe like us

  • it depends on your music style...

  • @valemadreishon agreed, most music these days is absolute shit

  • @valemadreishon I think by "not up to today's standards" they meant he isn't doing anything new or exciting. He's got great chops, but musically there is nothing revolutionary happening here.

  • @Sunderlanding In that case he would say "maybe is nothing new" instead of not up to date reffering to the quality of the music wich i insist its way better than almost everything in the modern music in that time and still today

  • @valemadreishon It's not better than modern music. There is a lot of great stuff happening. This isn't really that exciting.

  • @Sunderlanding

Your insane! The 80's music was THE BEST! BTW there is only half decent stuff now compared to back then. So when you go pull that pick signed by green day out your ass watch this again

  • @rockinpoweraxe Every decade has produced good music. There was great music before the 80's and there is likewise great music still being made after the 80's. You are truly ignorant if you can't see, or hear, that.

  • @Sunderlanding I would go so far as to say the 80's was one of the worst eras for music...

  • @starhawks1 say wha??? 70's-early 90s was the greatest time 4 music. everything now is just terrible.

  • @qu7aker yeah, 60's and 70's were the best, I never said anything about them, but the 80's and 90's sucked quite a bit of cock, aside from metal during those twenty years

  • @starhawks1 how did 80s-90s suck? we had some of the greatest metal bands that ever existed appear in that time period

  • @qu7aker read my comment more carefully

  • @starhawks1 u said 80s-90s suck a quite bit of cock. and yes i understand u didnt mean metal or rock but i think it had more originality then the21st century. honestly if the tech of 2day combined with the style of the 80s, now that would be a kickass period.

  • @qu7aker hmm I think there's a lot of good music today, iron maiden and joe satriani are still producing really good records, and theres a lot of good metal out there like amon amarth and kalmah

  • @starhawks1 i agree though i dont consider maiden and satriani todays music since they started back in the day. but i do like amon amarth and ive heard of kalmah so its all good :)

  • @qu7aker kalmah is great fucking nice melodies love the keytar too

  • @valemadreishon Its really cool no doubt but guitar has evolved A LOT in 30 years.

  • @TheSynisterGates Yes, i know that, but compared to almost any kind of today music "standards" even into metal, this is way better.

  • John Petrucci rules!

  • He have a lot of tools to play very groovie XD

  • Lol, killer tone =x

  • sickkk

  • That Ibanez looks tiny here. I also love when small guys make a guitar look huge, like Kirk Hammet playing a Rhodes. Ha!

  • ironic how this piece is not 'timeless'

  • hes a badass!!!

  • totally agree!!!!! this guy smokes!!!! F&#kING RIFF MASTER!!!!

  • Love this song, is fantastic, shredding and feeling the perfect combination. Please i want this tab, i would love to play it.

  • Thanks for sharing man...awesome track.

  • its the GOOB!!!!!!!!

  • Guitar God !:)

  • amazing playing!!

  • Great playing 8)

  • A backing track would be a God send!!! Fantastic playing!!!!

  • I decided to post the backing track for Timeless in the description for my Youtube Friends!

  • Wow.... that is amazing... I started learning some of the licks.... it really helps me! Is there a place that i can download a backing track from? I wish to jam on that rhythm... it's very freakin' cool!

  • well played, awesome - 5

  • great playing

  • in the studio version, did you use a pitch shifter or recorded a second guitar?

  • I've never used a harmonizer - so I had to learn the harmonies for the 2nd guitar lead part.

  • that must have been very difficult

  • I broke it up into several dozen sections and learned the harmony one bit at a time. When you do it like that, it's more manageable.

  • I just added a link in the description to the original studio version of Timeless with the duel guitar harmonies - check it out!

  • want to have the tabs ^^

  • I wrote the tabs out for it in 1993 - I just need to find them or score it out again. Thanks for the reminder!

  • would be really great 'cause i'd really love to learn it.... it simply sounds great

  • holy shit. ! :D

    that was amazing.(:
