Why do you hate effects? If done right they could add a great feel to something. Your editing itself seems spot on;great, but adding some compositing could really make the difference if done correctly. Even something like a color correction could help.

@StandardsFtw I don't have them, I just don't have the skill or time to do it.
And I totally agree on color correction. I never got to that point with this project.
