I asked this somewhere else, too, but did you try getting any sort of rubber coating (like for tools, etc) to coat the head with? I want to try this, but I'm trying to find a cheap, affordable set of mics :)

What else is interesting with this video is the different sounds in the background and the rain in the further distance as well say on plastic see-through covering on shed or garage or maybe greenhouse. The bird chirping somewhere overhead the airplane as well.

Same here as well, but you have to remember the storm is quiet and if you made some exhaling inhaling breathing sounds against the recoding which mind you the real thing like rain tapping down around you on different surfaces and different heights as well.
