  • So I took my fuses 6 and 4 out and my car kept running for like 5 minutes so I gave up.

  • hi jake belder to remove the fuel lines from the fuel filter do you need a special tool or just a wrench?

  • I was changing the filter on my 93 240 because my car was leaking fuel and I figured it was the filter that was leaking got it all apart put the new filter in and the leak was worse. Come to find out that the banjo bolt fitting has a large crack on the inside of it and it's a dealer only part and the closest Volvo dealer ship is 45 minuets away.

  • The Swedish way is to remove the fuel pump console from the car and take working whit it on a work bench. When replacing fuel filter I, always replace the Banjo fitting that sits between the fuel pump and filter, since the usually good bad and break apart during a fuel filter change.

  • Forgot to mention these bolts are lefty loosey righty tighty! always a concern when you are having a tough time breaking bolts and nuts! I had such a tough time breaking the bolts that I thought they may be reverse threaded .......

  • #1) I'd like to thank jakebelder for the video! I replaced the Fuel filter on my friends 86 240DL. This is a good example video but really lacking in proper/easy removal! First don't bother pulling the fuel pump fuse (#4 and #6 fuse). When you expose the Fuel pump and filter (2:33) pull both leads to the fuel pump and then run the car until it dies to relieve the pressure and then disconnect the ground to the battery!

  • #2) The brass "bolts" at both ends of the fuel filter are very tight and you will not be able to get enough torque to release them while it's hanging from the car! The job will go much faster if you do 2 things first. The following steps allow slack/play to the fuel filter and fuel pump housing, so that you can apply torque to the bolts.

  • #2a) From the back of the fuel filter follow the fuel line until you come across the first bracket that holds it to the under carriage, use a 10 mm socket to remove the "tar"covered bolt (it's there, you can use gas and an old tooth brush to remove tar and expose the bolt).

  • #2b) Remove intake hose to the back of the fuel pump. Loosen hose clamp (philips screw) and then use Lisle 22850 Hose Pincher's (cheapest) or Hose pincher pliers to the fuel line so fuel will not spill from tank when you remove the hose. Be aware that these hoses are old ...... I was reluctant to pinch the fuel pump line because of the age ..... but I got lucky and it handled being pinched off until I completed the job.

  • #3) Now the housing is on the ground. To do the job right open your new filter and make sure you have wrenches (best) or channel lock pliers that will fit the Nut like ends of the filter ( my guess is they are 24mm and 22mm I was unlucky and didn't have channel locks or large enough wrenches). If I remember correctly the front filter bolt is 19 mm and the back is 18mm or it's 18mm and 17mm? I would highly recommend a breaker bar ratchet or a cheater .... these bolts were torqued real tight!

    I have a 240 GLT 2.2 non turbo, 87ish year. Has an odd problem starts and drives fine for an hour or so but then you pull up and it cuts out and wont start again till its cooled off. Not a heating issue as the temp never goes above half way on the dash. I think its a fuel issue. Any ideas?

  • Hate those fckng copper bolts.. its a shitty old system volvo uses in their old cars..

    What you might want to do whe bolts dont cover good is heat them up till they start to smoke, then quickly cool them down in water. The copper will get soft and tighten better.

    Still.. mostly the best option is to replace those hoses by the one's with the screwheads...

  • what kind of gas mileage do you get with your 240. Mine struggles to get above 14 mpg.
