When you're riding north in the morning and south in the evening on the Rock Island, depending on which side of the train you're on, tinted windows are a Godsend, even if it does make everything look like Emerald City. Gray tint probably would have been a better choice.
Wow, talk about changes! I use to board the METRA in Blue Island (we still called it the Rock Island) for my trek to the city. Kennedy-King was functional then; the 'projects' were always sad to see; and Dearborn Park was THE PLACE to live in the New South Loop. Fast forward: The college is a tomb; projects were annihilated; & the South Loop has grown immensely (it's beautiful). Haven't seen any of this in years! Thank-you so much for the trip back in time. And, yes, Jermaine was a cad!
At :50 is the site of Englewood station, on 63rd St. It served the Rock Island, Pennsylvania (the tracks this train crosses) and New York Central (tracks coming in from the right a few seconds later). Thanks for documenting this with a steady hand.
They were planning on putting in low-rise, mixed-income housing and retail, a process the City's Planning Dept. told us would take 7 to 10 YEARS, and that was in 2007, before the economy tanked.
Now? They may as well make the whole thing into a park.

I sent you a video response so that you can watch it and delete it. I used stills, but I took my photos on a parallel route to yours. Great video!
