@linagee It's all relative. As opposed to many other digital modes that can be utilized this way, it has several advantages, including baud rate. It is quite adequate for sending text messages point to point within the range of the given VHF/UHF radio capabilities. Not that I am aware of, it may well be possible though. Have you tried SSTV? Look for the free program called MMSSTV.
I haven't tried SSTV much on vhf/fm but don't see why it wouldn't work, as long as you have a proper interface (Rigblaster etc.) and a radio that can do digital in FM like the FT-857 can.
However, you probably wouldn't usually need/want to do it in FM mode anyway.
"It's very fast". Isn't packet radio typically sent at 1200 baud and maxes out around 9600 baud? Not exactly fast. :-)

I use Packet Radio when Mobile and also Static Mobile. That is once I have fitted it back into my car. However not many users in the UK now.
