I've never worn a fedora hat, but I do wear a hat all the time, except when I sleep or while I drive. Never mind fashion, I like like a hat that keeps my head dry when it rains, the sun out of my eyes. It still looks good.
I wear my Fedora all the time. I also follow classic hat etiquette and you should too. Remember that any female that wears a males hat (fedora) they are subject to males hat etiquette rules.
sigh but the problem is the smaller brim "fedoras" arent really fedoras they're trilby's a british flipped brimmed hat. a true fedora has roughly a 2 1/2" inch to 3" inch snap brim
In my highschool I've seen 3 other people wear a fedora. This is four people (me included) out of the 3000 students going there, many of who still wear snapbacks or whatever their called.
I've been told I have the perfect head shape and face shape and style for a fedora and I put one on and I looked like I belong in the 40's. Imma get a black one with a white band. All these celebs are just going mainstream.
Fedoras are stylish and practical when getting them with a wider brim. I like the 2.5 to 3 inch brim because of better head protection from the sun on bright days. The boater and the Pork Pie styles (without the pinched crowns) looks too blocky and a bit too harsh when the wearer has a longer slender head.
I don't care if everyone is supposedly wearing a "FEDORA HAT". I'm going to continue to wear my favorite hat. This is my signature hat along with an Eskimo hat
@pyramidheadkitten9 lol thats because in the 30s when they wore fedora's they didn't have long hair or jeans and all men had short parted and combed hair for some reason >_>
the hats shown are no classics. Short brimmed obnoxiously patterned hats are not traditionally stylish and classic. And his Newsboy was in fact a "Duckbill" which is a fusion between the classic newsboy which came into fashion in 2007. These "Fedoras" are not in any way deserving of comparison to the classic and timeless style of REAL hats.
@orchote Actually, fedora isn't neccisarily a style. It's a brand of hats, but most people know of it as the style. It's kinda like calling a tissiue a klenex. Not all tissues are klenex, but all klenex are tissue.
I've always been interested in Fedora hats. Not for the fashion side of it, nor would I be interested in covering my face. I just like having something to keep my head dry should it rain, or to protect my head from sunburn.
i bought a fedora a black one but really not because everyone is wearing them, is that i have this thing of looking like a 1930s-1940s gangster, and i'm only 15, i just really like that style.
@mrzeppelin4life exactly. John Dillinger. I don't wear them because I want them to be a style. Different is good. too many people wearing the same thing now. Back then same thing, but they were nicer. I have a black one for cold weather and a straw one for usually spring and summer
You must take off the hat in closed rooms and elevators. That's a hat etiquette. You can see it in 1930', 1940's and 1950's movies. Look at Chinatown (1974.) with Jack Nicholson, very handsome wearing his fedora hat. He always takes it off in room or elevator.
@zuzulo56 You see, problem with english speaking people is that Yoo made an imperialism with english language. I don't know where are You from, but I appreciate Indian or Native american langauges who were suppressed for a long time. European settlers came and imposed english as a national language in late 18. century. Here in Europe we like DIVERSITY. In USA it is like, we are people with different colors and religions, but ONE or TWO languages - english and spanish. What about Cherokee?
@milekrizman DIVERSITY leads to division. History has shown that to be successful, in ANYTHING, UNITY must needs be achieved. The road to Diversity is a pathway to destruction. Oh, and the majority of the indigenous American Indian tribes do not speak, nor teach, their ancient languages. They employ the world's "lingua franca": ENGLISH. (So much for Cherokee...) Do lighten up, form a mature sense-of-humor...and, AND enjoy life... while sporting a nifty hat!
@zuzulo56 They do teach their languages. In their community. And that is good. There has to be some lingua franca in the world, today it is english, but im english would be spoken everywhere we would loose diversity.
@milekrizman man if i was in the 1940's or if i had a time machine i'd beat random men up pee in their fedora stomp on bust a cap in they fedora stuff cheese in they fedora play wit they fedora and set they fedora on fire den pee on mine !! >_<
@milekrizman That's a good idea, particularly if the elevator is crowded. You don't want to bump the person next to you in the face. I've seen Chinatown, starring Jack Nicholson, and although I disagree with the way Nicholson treated Faye Dunaway's charactor, I love the way people dressed during the 1930s.
@milekrizman That always pissed me off 'cause I thought it was a generational thing that would go away! It's also I'm 19&I wear fedoras and in High School when I wouldn't take my hat off the explanation well if the super intendant saw it and the book says... the book says.... oh god the book says....now that I see this I know why there was a rule I have a different view though still kinda annoyed look you in the eyes W.T.H?
I like wearing fedora hats and I wear a black one.
I always wondered why this stylish hat went out of fashion. In my opinion beside JFK and cars the main reasons for not wearing hats are man's hairstyles in 1960's. Man started to wear their hair long, which is not suitable for man. Hippies adopted anti style - hobo like fashion.
I am glad that this beautiful piece of wardrobe is coming back, and if You wear a suit You must wear a fedora or a derby. What are You going to wear? Baseball cap?
@Basiliskoatl "Great, now I'm gonna have to choose another style. It's just not fun when everyone is wearing the same stuff."
Not necessarily.
Do you choose what you wear merely for the sake of being different, or do you choose what you wear because *YOU* like it, no matter if it's popular or not?
No offense intended but just as it's insecure to bear fashion for conformity's sake, it's also just as insecure to decry it only because it's popular.

Thisistheman91 9 months ago
@Thisistheman91
Actually, those "modern fedoras" are not fedoras.
The smaller brim hats we see are similar, but a small brim "fedora" is correctly referred to as a trilby.
A fedora, of course, has the larger brim.
As for me, I wear an actual fedora that was made in the USA: the Raider, made by Country Gentleman.
