If you are able to write via the internet, you can only do so if you are an "Official in Cuba", since it is banned for it's citizens and severely censored, even for "Reporteros sin Fronteras" or tourists! I'm an artist also, and have done public monuments and private commissions, I research my subjects before accepting or promoting the work. The hijackers were 3 black young men that took a Ferry, Castro himself spoke via a loudspeaker and promised that they would not be hurt! The Ferry was full of Canadian abd British tourists which said the 3 men were not violent, and never threatened anyone. The black youths gave up, and were shot the next day for "crimes against the state! Talk about a trial, and appeals process. That's justice on the Island of Dr. Castro!

To understand the situation of the cubans, you have to live through it. These people have been oppressed for 47 years, without freedom of speech, afraid of what they might say or do, they are watched constantly, families separated, mothers loosing their sons at sea, etc What has he done in 47 years? About the meeting with Malcolm X 46 years ago, do you think he meant what he said? That was only the beginning, talk to the black people there now and see how they feel?

He can create a statue of whoever he wants and display it in his studio, but to display it as a "Champion of Civic Rights"?? He should speak to the black people in Cuba and see how they are segregated. Maybe he can place the names of all his victims. I love this country and specially the freedom of speech but remember that you also have to be considerate for the rest of the citizens living here, place a statue of Hitler or a statue of the KK klan and specially to glorify them? dont think so!!

I see what you mean, but you can't compare the KKK and Hitler to Fidel. Yes, they are and were all terrible people but in different times and types. Also I saw the video and heard the interview here in miami and I didn't hear him say he was the champion of the civil rights, but i did hear that he played a role in the civil rights and seen the pic of him and malcom x. Just like all the Cuban Americans went out to the streets and thru a Big Ass Party to celebrate his death, his making a statue.

Castro is just as bad as those other assasins, whether it was a different time. I will recommend that you visit Cuba, but stay with the local people, not in the tourist area, where tourists have everything, but not for the cuban people. The real Cuba where people are rationed to what they can eat in a month, where the medical facilities for the cubans are a total disaster, where to go to school you have to wake up 4 to 5 hours before in order to hitch rides (everyday)

I have spoken to cubans that have been here for little then 5 years and most of them tell me the same thing. "That they may not have much to eat but they all get and education and medical help", and i never seen a very skinny cuban come to the shores of key west. They all look healthy to me, let me ask you were you born in cuba or in the united stated.

No, is not. But am not saying that his right and I know that Cuba is the way it is because of Castro. I have also seen my share of dead people, seeing that I fought in Afghanistan and Iraq. This man is only looking for fame and fortune. He can create a statue of whoever he wishes, but to display a statue of Castro in Central Park? Why dont you display one of Hitler or any other asassin?
