I like others have stated..I miss the Sonics!! Man, those were the days. The Kemp/Payton era was probably the best because of all of excitement that they brought to the game in Seattle. For me, it was the Wizard and Sikma era with DJ and all of the other Seattle greats from the late 70s on up until Kemp/Payton. Man I miss the Sonics.
@JellyBean2144 true man, i grew up in Seattle watching Payton and Kemp 6 straight 53 plus win seasons, i miss basketball in Seattle! I wish we would of got to see the exciting Durant Westbrook duo in Seattle! but ya those teams in the 70s were great for Seattle as well.
Shawn Kemp was way better than Blake Griffin. And Shawn Kemp DID have a great all around game that didn't rely on athletics alone by the mid 1990's. The guy had a HEAVY alcohol problem, it got exposed in 1997, he admitted it first, but then denied it...the Sonics had many inner team meetings. The news trickled out that Shawn was into cocaine as well as alcohol. He gave up in the playoff series against the Rockets in '97. He became a poison. Had one good season in Cleveland. Got fat. So sad.
Thank you for posting!! This game brings back soo many memories. This was actually the very first nba game that i ever taped!! Man i watched this game so many times that i memorized Dick Enbergs lines!! So much classic stuff is this game. Gill in Jordan 9's, Payton opping to Kemp, Barkley, the commentating. I could go on and on. 90's Ball for LIFE!!!
Man, those alley-oop dunks by Shawn Kemp that looked like it's impossible to catch reminds me of Blake Griffin today. Sadly, if only someone could have advised Kemp to work on improving his game (not relying on his talent alone) and keep healthy and in game shape, he could have been one of the greatest power forwards in our league today. Hope that Blake learns a lesson or two from Kemp's career...
@MrDarkstalker15 Great points made on Shawn Kemp. Two things Kemp has on Griffin was his shooting ability and ball handling. If Griffin puts it together he could be the best PF in "todays" NBA......and as long as he doesn't remain a Clipper for his entire career...lol.
This is a regular season game from the 1993-1994 season. (The year after these two teams met in the '93 WFC) Sonics finished this year 63-19, and lost to the damn Nuggets
Kemp is like what Len Bias would have been without a Jump Shot !

Block at 7:47 and starting a break, passing off the other missing and him putting back off the offensive rebound. Classic Sir Charles.

@hanzaninja3 - seriously......I DONT THINK ANYONE ELSE COULD/CAN!!!!!!!
zeusforlife2002 1 year ago
@hanzaninja3 i agree, i don't think any PF could put a spin move on a shooting guard like he did on Majerle @ 4:31
206watch 1 year ago 2
@hanzaninja3 Blake Griffin. IMO Blake is the closest player I've seen to Kemp's size and athleticism
IntelInside2020 1 year ago 2
@hanzaninja3 I think Blake Griffin can. His whole game is actually a lot like Kemp's
kennygriff24 1 year ago 2
@hanzaninja3 hah Durant is about the same height as Kemp but hardly the same size
