The same way Apl from Black Eyed Peas (i know they suick now & shouldnt even be mentioned here but 99 they were tight & unique as fuck) being by and large blind calls out to the audience & to folks with philipine flags in the audience.
Absolutely brilliant. For as much as I have always like Benson's version - AND I BELIEVE THAT IS ONE OF BENSON'S BEST PERFORMANCES - this version is in a different stratosphere.
Thumbs up if you were brought here because you actually knew that Jose Feliciano composed this piece, and you appreciated George Benson's cover, long before you ever heard of Nujabes.
I've seen this today on a local Italian TV, after Jose gig there was another band I'm trying to find.
There was a bandleader playing flute, a drummer, a piano player, a kbd player, bass, drums, a horn section, all in the same location shown in this video.
Really great instrumental music but there was no titles...

Beautiful and this is the Feliz Navidad guy. Thanks Nujabes for making this connection for me. I really love when music is sampled because I get connected to songs I probably would've not ever listened to. Not because of being into different kinds of music, but because this was way before my time.
A Puerto Rican guitarist's composition that was first covered by an american jazz artist and then sampled by a japanese hip-hop producer... This speaks volumes to the universality of the language that is music. I feel very proud to be from Puerto Rico and inmensely privileged to be able to hear other artists' rendition of his work. May music continue to bring us together. Cheers.
@XredruM: I agree. Sampling just adds recognition to a great artist's work. Greetings from a fellow hip hop head.
@skulls17 Once a song has been recorded and released, ANY other artist may do their own version and the original composer gets MORE MONEY! It's not sick, in this case my friend, it's a great honor. Nobody sold out anything, I hope you can understand this.
@1955gasman@skulls17 Nujabes is a hip-hop producer. Today would be exactly one year of his passing. I am a huge fan of his. He sampled this song for his piece called "Counting Stars." As a producer, I must be a listener. Hip-hop is misunderstood sometimes because we sample. Folks misunderstand it as stealing. Think of it as reintroducing your favorite guitarist to a new crowd of listeners; music being recycled. Whichever works. I'd like to think of sampling as paying respect to my inspiration.
Fantastic News!!! For the first time, the original 1975 LP Just Wanna Rock'n'Roll which include the original "Affirmation" by Jose Feliciano (sampled also by Njubaes dj and covered by George Benson" is finally released on CD !!!!!
Beautiful! This is the second time Ive been led to an older artist's song thanks to a cover by a recent artist (in this case, Nujabes). Glad to see how great music influences each other through time.
I think the number was reset a little while ago. It has to be more than 19 thou. I too was led to this by Nujabes, and I'm glad I did, what an absolute legend. The riff on 4:30 gives me goose bumps still. While I can't play the guitar I've tried to learn this song through Counting Stars on the piano, I hope I can do Jose justice some day, he is an inspiration even in this dark and dreary day.
What makes this an amazing performance and song is that Jose is blind and playing the guitar better than most sighted guitarist. He's an overlooked legend along the lines of Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles. Truly God-given talent.
The cover by George is a more refined, commercial version. Still, it can't touch this.
yeah. this is som much smoother and easy flowing. i think george benson's is too fast and choppy. and i like george benson. and i have to be honest if you asked me to name great guitarists, jose would have never come up before i heard this.
I first heard this song on samurai champloo, tracked it to george benson, and i happend to find this video with the acutal song from the anime. Its a very beautiful song.
It's fantastic & incredible how Jose Plays this his fantastic composition, no other cover has this hard techinc fingerstyle, too easy plays with a onlyone plectro
This was also covered by the great Al Gafa - one time Dizzy Gillespie side man abd a great jazz gitarist. His album Leblon Beach which features this track is an all time great album in my book.
this song makes me feel soo, soooo i don't think there is a word for how it makes me feel i can't stop playing it it just touches my soul and heart to no end. it makes me feel like there nothing i can't do i love playing this after a heard long day. knowing every thing is okay. Plush I'm luring HOW TO PLAY IT!!! YAAAAY
Well for thinking that way...but either way, his music is amazing regardless of him being blind. Amazing job that even musicians today couldn't hope to match.
I know Shino's theme was never on an album though until Hydeout collection came though. But zomgggg that scene where Jin was helping Shino escape on a boat and Shino's theme played was soooooooooo badass. Fuckin greatest scene in Samurai Champloo.
truth! very powerful scene. My favorite is probably where Mugen duels that bodyguard on the beach and then that still shot with him dead with his sword - daaamn! true bushido. -.-
Also Jin walking up to the final fight with the hand of god, and the one where that Ainu guy is on fire...holy shit there's too many to list. That's why sam cham is so good: everyscene is beautiful, and there's 0% filler. *coughnarutobleachcough*
Yeah the only good animes are 13-50 episodes long with the exception of Hunter x Hunter. The episode where the dude was on fire was epic. Think I just might watch Champloo again since I've seen like every damn anime there is to watch and have nothing else to watch except crappy animes like Vandread.
