  • yep this is all mime, i know cause it me on the guitar!!!

  • of coarse Bowie liked this version, it was him who produced it, as well as backing vocals and playing sax. It's also a great version. It never bothers me when some people say they prefere this version, because it's down to Bowie as well, just with Lulu's vocals.

  • I love the Bowie version, it goes without saying really, but Lulu does this justice and even as an instrumental it would have a brilliant vibe. I love that sax playing!

  • This is great. All hat needs to be said.

  • Ignore the doubters, this is a great version, am I right in thinking Bowie produced it as well? (or Bowie's producer?) Better than Nirvana's limp version as well.

  • @SirPeterCucumber Yes. Bowie and Mick Ronson produced if I recall correctly.

  • That's right, this is the version with Bowie as backing vocals.

  • This is actually the studio version being mimed over, if you listen hard you can hear Bowie's backing vocals.

  • @shortychelsea1 Stupidest thing I've ever heard. Lulu first covered this song almost 20 years before Nirvana. All versions are good it just depends on your taste in music which one you prefer.

  • Bowie > Lulu > Douche Cobain

  • Kurt cobain would turn in his grave

  • yeah bowie, did do saxophone and vocals...and lulu looks stunning

  • of course Bowie liked it, he played sax and sung backing vocals on it,,,, well said JennyPenny

  • piece of shit

  • I JUST LOVE THIS SONG LULU VOICE IS AMAZING

  • Ohh please.. Leave the men sing this one.. A chick voice ruins the beauty and the intension of David Bowie.

  • Talented, gorgeous (how old is she?), and a classic song - it don't get any better!!!

  • she is fuckin amazing

  • Who is the Sax Player?

  • @tadams67 I'm certain it was Bowie himself. He also sang backing vocals and was the producer on the record.

  • I treated Lulu during her filming of To Sir With Love. She presented with acute nervous disorder. I told her to imagine that she was performing to non-thinking people. She became world famous about two months later, looking more relaxed than Cher after the batteries go dead.

  • Great version. It's Bowie's fav.

  • They have totally different musical styles. Neither has to be better.

  • She has got better with age - better singer and certainly visually, she's ace.

  • Nirvana is better

  • Superb! Brilliant version of a top Bowie tune. I think she has a really good voice for rock music, shame she did not do more in this vein. She has always looked great too.

  • Lulu wa a very good pop singer. Although her image was a long way from Bowie's it was a smart move for both of them Lulu popularised a song known only to Bowie aficionados and got some reflected street cred, Bowie got royalties he could never have dreamt of from the song in a surprisingly good version.

  • I am a HHHUUUGGGEEE Bowie fan, and I LOVE this version !!

  • as good as ever!

  • how some people think Cobain is better at singing this than Bowie is beyond me. besides, this is hardly crap compared some of the garbage covers we get nowadays - so many decent songs have been ruined. Besides, David produced this song himself, which is good enough for me.

  • i thought this verison didn't have that eerie-ness that Bowie gave, but she can sing!

  • Comment removed

  • It's a brilliant cover. such things are rare

  • ...sexy, beautiful woman with an uncomparable voice and stage presence.

  • What Improv?

  • nice improvisation

  • Snore. She was more entertaining on AbFab.

  • I quite like it - although I much prefer Nirvanas rawer version. Never liked Bowies. Its good to see how different artists interpret the same song.

  • This version was produced in 1973 by David Bowie himself, so he probably made the arrangement for Lulu. He also played the sax on it. This video is more recent.

  • Nice improvisation. Thanks.

  • bad karaoke

  • oh god! i looove this song! the song is so awesome and i cant get it out of my head! i loooove it and hear it again and again!!

    luluuuuuuuu forever!!! <3

  • great , just give what you can afford

  • Muy buena version la de lulu.

No como la de nirvana que es una basura

  • THE best version - its Bowie approved too!

  • Yes!!!

  • nope nope. she cant beat nirvana. nirvana forever<3

  • I think both Bowies and especially Lulus versions are better than Nirvanas!

  • @BigDeanoSyd cada quien con su gusto, pero no son mejores "the man sold the world gran rola"

  • He wrote this well before Lulu performed it, but this is his production. They had a short relationship at the time as she revealed much later in her autobiography.

  • ,,, and it was Bowie doing mirror-image backing vocals on the chorus on Lulu's original too! Great version...

  • It was a big number 3 hit for Lulu in 1974 i loved it then and still do to this day. This version rocks

  • The first time I heard this was with Lulu and I loved it, there are probably better versions i.e. Nirvana, but still love this

  • this sucks its like karaoke version ......bowie and nirvana 4eva

  • @arkee71 Nirvana forever, unmatched, but this is a good tribute

  • Really don't like her version. Listen to Jordis Unga's version from Rockstar INXS. It's the best!

  • AMEN - Jordis's version is the BEST!

  • LuLu was a legend back in the 60's. don't care for the older voice though..

  • well said chriseyeman. this is a bowie

classic. and only david, can do it justice.

  • Bland (musically), Lulu does a not bad job though.

  • Lulu covered this back in '74, I think it was. And for 60, she's looking fabulous. It's not a bad cover and was a bit of a hit for her then.

  • no david wrote it for her, butwith the rest (60y and fabulous) you´re absolutly right

  • David wrote it for himself. He produced Lulu about 5 years later.

  • Bowie's version of this song is by far the best.

  • Yeah, I have 2 comments. One, Lulu is better looking than Cobain, and 2, what the hell is this song about? How can some guy sell the world? to who, and how did he come to own it in the first place.

  • Who the f... is Krut Cobain? This song is a Bowie-Song and the only one who can sing this, is David

  • I don't know David Jones xxx

  • The song is great!

  • Did you catch David Jones playing Sax towards the end? X

  • She'e enough good for me, but David Bowie and Kurt Cobain are better than her.

  • true they might do better versions of the track but they don't look half as good as lulu

  • Yeah: endorsed by the master...I love this and am glad I'm not alone...Piece of genious...la la Lu Lu...Go, lassie!

  • "Who's that girl?"

  • The immortal LULU!

Don't she just rock at 60?

  • Lulu's a better singer than Bowie not to say that Bowie hasn't penned some good songs

  • this is grose...nirvana is the best version

  • Lulu - Looking and Sounding Good. lol

  • Don't care what other posters have commented, Lulu is looking GRRRRRRRREAT! Bowie actually loved this version.

    So there!!!!

  • @JannyPanny59

I agree Bowie actually produced, played sax and sang backing vocals on Lulu's version of the record

  • seems an odd choice for a cover but i think it's quite good, ..i do lile the sax in the back along with the singing.

  • This is brilliant. I have the man who sold the world by Lulu 7" record and The man who sold the by David Bowie 7" record, both records are very good.

  • Yeah, don't think this bad at all!! - sure, the horns carry the main melodic riffs- instead of the guitars, but Bowie used Sax's a lot - I think David Bowie would like this version!!

  • He should - he produced it.

  • Not only did Bowie produce this Lulu version - he is singing the backing vocals. This is the version that he and Lulu recorded together - she is mining here as are the other muscians. A good version though - I bought the original single and played it repeatedly (aged about 15).

  • I don't know how it can be called shit, it's a very good cover and all the better for not trying to be too similar to the original.

  • @classican Not to mention bowie fucking produced, played instruments, and sang backing for her in the seventies!

  • Acoustic/vocal video response -also- "Lake of Fire" & my new song/homevid "Amsterdam(I Grow the Best Pot in the World)"...cheers!

  • I laughed as her hand showed me the way back home , I searched for her form for years and years I roamed.

I stared a saddened stare at all the billions left here

What of these ? will they all die alone?

    Who knows ? not me

Their fate is beyond all control

    Until they face

    The truth

    That its women

    Who will save the world.

  • Its women who will save the world.

I saw her in the world

    I saw her everywhere

I saw her through the tears of my own despair.

She said I was her friend and I was surprised so I spoke to her deep and unknowable eyes.

I thought you were crucified a long long time ago

    Oh no not me

They could never own my soul

    You're face to face

With the woman who'll save the world.

  • u gonna save the world with your emotions monica hahahahahhaha

  • i dont like this version, it songs so pop, i like more whit nirvana or with david

  • david bowie and lulu have a version 2gether

  • Comment removed

  • mama ich muss aa

  • i'd forgot just how comfortable this version is.

  • This David Bowie song has three great versons: David himself, Lulu and Nirvana.

  • hmmm I like....Jordis Ungas version better....Respect to Lulu though I love her.

  • I love this one but I think Watch That Man is even better. She rocked that one.

  • i love this version thanks

  • this version is absolutely great rock on sweet adorable facinating and very sexy lulu

  • lulu is brilliant i lv her, did anyone notice shane Richie lol x

  • You must all be very young. She released this donkeys years ago and had a big hit with it, BOWIE sang with her on the track. She was shagging him rotten at the time and admits their full on relationship in her book.

  • me neither

  • It's not the best cover of this song but at least Lulu looks a damn sight better than Kurt Cobain.

  • even after hjs game with a shotgun

  • I've heard better Lulus

  • to happy, not cxapturing the shcizophrentic split personality of it, she almost sounds happy when she yell "i tohught u died alone!"

    failure

  • I like Lulu a lot but this isn't a real good version- to me the prob is that she makes it almost happy.

THE ABSOLUTE BEST VERSION IS JOrdis Unga from Rockstar-INXS == BLOWOUT!

Cobain's version strikes the right tone, but seems boring to me. The Bowie versions are real good even though he, too, kinda makes them a little happy.

AGAIN- BEST VERSION IS Jordis Unga - check her out.

  • cobains is better but this aint that bad

  • It's nice to hear this from a woman's voice. Great song. Love all three versions of it.

  • I can never get over lulu having a hit with this classic. If lulu was made of chocolate she would eat herself truly awful...

  • Like it or not, Lulu gives really good sax.

    What a blow job.

  • This honestly isn't a bad cover. Even though I still like Kurt's cover better.

  • Incorrect version or not, I just don't like Lulu, but sure, she likes herself enough for all of us.

Personally, I blame Bowie for selling the WORLD, sorry! song!!

  • Bowie's is the best version, Cobain's cover is good too, he has a nice voice but I don't like this one

  • Oh god i don't like this version -.-

    kurt cobain is better *.*

  • Dung!! Curt Cobain the best!!

  • Lulu, this is really good! "the man who sold the world=anti-christs, politics=satan. God bless humankind and our souls. We are living in a very dark age.

  • yep def best version

  • who the fk is she tryin' to kid. . .

she STILL cant sing fer shit !

  • What the fvck is this !!!! Its just,

    Terrible this version. Terrible, Terrible!!!

  • thats's your opinion!!!!!!!

  • bowie duets and plays the sax on this also, mick ronson on guitar too, during the pin ups sessions

  • she turned into barbie, desperately trying to let us believe she didn't age since 1969. The signature bowie words out of her mouth never convinced me. Probably a big favour or a cokejoke by the man himself, who knows, not me...

  • fantastic !!! better than any of the crap these days !!!!!

  • i relly dont liked this version..

well .. i think nirvana and bowie version better

  • I like the live version of Bowie with Klaus Nomi the best. From Saturday night Live. Its fantastic.

  • I threw plenty of money in the music box to listen to this. Still great to listen to.

  • love it...

  • the versions of David Bowie and Nirvana are worse!! This is the only one! Lulu looks beautiful and sexy. She´s hot and so is her voice. Great performance.

  • Einfach nur schlecht!!!!!!!

  • best version of this song ever, and this coming froma guy who normally hates covers, (Joe Cocker excepted naturally)

I love the opening Sax solo

  • Nirvana is better!

  • Petition signed!

  • I allways loved this version!

  • i love Lulu

  • Lulu has a great voice but nobody can beat Bowie singing this.

  • her singing isn't bad, but the instrumental is way off. this is supposed to be a sad song, they made it too upbeat.

  • Lulu is fabulous!

Go sign our petition show your support for the sensational songstress!

  • This song is sung spot-on, but I feel it's too peppy...She sounds pretty excited to be meeting the man who sold the world. It lacks the necessary melancholy that both Nirvana and David Bowie exuded.

  • very funky, sung in a nice context

  • Bowie and Nirvanas versions were loads better

  • Ha mime was Bowies thing, heres Lulu doing it with her original backing feat Bowie/Ronno 34 years later. this is a cracking version. BOWIE FAN

  • thanks for the post

  • The live versions are often not as good as the edgier original recodings by Bowie or even Lulus follow up

  • I've heard a remix of this song! That version was my favourite song in the world! Does any one know of it. Can anyone possible give me they name of the DJ who made it because I can't find it anywhere now.

  • ai, this sucks

  • another song ruined

  • Great version sung by Lulu

  • I generally loathe sax, but it sounds good on this song ...

  • I like her voice for this song. But the music SUCKS.

  • So agree with you! Her voice is great

  • lulu looks fantastic and sounds even better ! keep going babe !!!!

  • Lulu rocks my world.

  • stop bitchin i think she looks shit hot n what have you done better? Bowie is much better than nirvana whom i like but there is no comparison!

  • Lulu Lulu I love you. Lulu Lulu yes I do

  • Lulu did an excellent job on this song as she does an excellent job on everything, she had a chart hit with it remember? She is truly a national treasure.

  • THEBOOTLEGDAVIDBOWIE. Lulu fucks up every song that she tries to sing. The chart hit was by the real David Bowie. Lulu's records were bought by her own family. That's nearly all of Glasgow. Work it out. A national treasure. Oh yes, she is definitley that. Pity, this treasure isnt buried alive.

  • No need to be pissy about it.

And for the record, Bowie gave her permission for doing this and actually HELPED her make this track.

  • Bowie played sax on this version.

  • this one is relly sad

    nirvana is so fucking better

  • really a cry

  • mime mime mime!!!!!!!!

  • Forget lulu who I do now like she did a good job but the video for me is all about the Sax players who made the video what it is.

  • Lulu go home to Little Venice in your little house where you spend all your time alone. You never got anywhere in the marriage stakes did you. Bit like me really.

  • Lulu you have trashed this song, like you do to all the others that you try to sing.

  • kurt is the best!!!!

  • actually, it was David Bowie who originated this song. In fact, he gets pissed off when people come up to him and say things like, "It's so cool that you sing a Nirvana song!"

  • Rubbish. This Lulu is a right cow. I have met her and I know.

  • jeanniehopkirk - and she speaks so highly of you...

  • SHOUT

  • Hija de la mierda es mejor nirvana

  • pinche putito mexicano caguengue. no sabes

nada we. puss si te gusta el metal industrial deberias escuchar defenetrator. inche pendejo

  • She looks a lot better these days since the plastic surgery than she did in the old days after WW2 and before she shagged that dancer from Take That!

  • cum on id still do her by the way it was howard lol
