I have been playing World of Warcraft with Ubuntu for Ages. Do you need any other game ever? and it runs much better than it would in a Windows rig any day of the week.
why install Windows on any physical System just run it inside a virtual Machine like Sun's VirtualBox el presto you have wintdows 7 running inside Ubuntu Virtual box system. No downtime ever again.
hey guys i have an idea, how about we all be rampant fanbois over some computer software then post our opinions on youtube, the bastion of intelligent discussion and intellectual thought.

Besides copying OS X's dock, Expose, zooming, the Cube effect, etc., can you show me something... anything, anything that Linux innovated rather than simply copied and borrowed or modified from somewhere else?
The OS X dock is not an apple innovation, get off your high horse. Stardock has been making dock like applications since the Windows 3.1 era (1994 at the earliest).
Additionally, Apple has borrowed many ideas from the open source community, not the least of which include its browser engine, large swaths of its kernel, and the base of its graphics framework (OpenGL). Oh and spaces... aka virtual desktops... thats a linux/unix thing.
deebeech, Windows 3.1 began in 1991, NextStep began in 1989 by Steve Jobs, so how could StarDock have created the dock? It only came to Windows after OS/2 died, since that's where it was first created for in 1991. I know all about Apple's open-source, but the dock, expose, the cube effect and all other animated desktops, they were a product of Apple's, not the open source community! Don't believe me, check it up on Wikipedia! Apple's WebKit, is only partially based on open source, not all of it!
Mactube: OSX copied the dock from Stargate software. All of the other things you're complaining about linux "stealing" is actually just display effects within the window manager, which is Compiz, not "Linux". As for Linux innovating things, you might want to stop and remind yourself that OSX is FreeBSD under the hood, which Apple didn't write. Your ENTIRE OS is from somewhere else.
can these effects such as desktop cube be used without a nvidia graphics card. I'm using a brand new HP Pavillion Entertainment DV6000 and running ubuntu 8.10 with Wubi. Any ideas
thanks for the video. I would like to learn your system features. I have 8.10 too but with my system when i activate the compiz videos, some games and google earth is blinking.When it is deactivated there is no problem but i cant use compiz because of that. My system is ;

@deleon: That's Avant Window Manager (AWN). Search for it with Synaptic, you'll likely want the Avant notification daemon as well.

Wow, "you're entire OS is from somewhere else." I guess that's ONE way to say it. What, is Apple not supposed to use grade-A open-source code?
Another way to look at it is OS X is the most popular UNIX-based distribution in the world.
natmusak 2 years ago
Windows is the most popular distribution in the world. So what?

Congratulations, you just equivocated Mac OS X/UNIX to Windows.

Go to Applications > Add/Remove programs, and search for ccsm and install something called Advanced Effects ... (ccsm).
After installing go to System > Preferences > Compiz Settings Manager, and start customizing.
