according to turkish law, (and you( and eveyone else who is in the same opinion) SHOULD check it before you say its not illegal) it IS illegal for sufis to gather at lodges and to hold ceremonies. however the same government does'nt consider it an issue to pick and choose things from the path that it sees fit as a turist attraction e.g. the semazens.
instead of blindly defending something or someone, question! as assuming you know everything will only hold you back!
It is not bidah you dirty salafi/wahabi. You salafees destroy our beautiful religion. May Allah curse ibn taymiya and abdul-wahhab the deviant heretics.
I am an Iranian. Dervishi and Sufi root back to old mid-ages in Iran, too. There are main poets with great poems from those periods. The Iranian traditional music is wholly dedicated to such concepts, as Shajarian sings. Dervishes still take care of their activities in Iran, but to a small extent.
Thank you for posting such great thing from neighboring Turkey.
since my last comment above I have learned that some whirling dervishes perform in front of an audience so that others can share the zikr. Like nikwax said they are illegal in thier own country "Turkey" though what they do is peaceful, so the only way to show the world their whirl is by travelling and performing. They travel with thier shaykh which is positive and they seem to be sincere so I retract my previous statement.
Ata Turk after WW1 banned past cultural forms (dervishes, the wearing of the fez etc) so he could move Turkey into the modern world. The real dervishes meet in hiding. Then 30/40 years ago the gov saw it could be a tourist attraction and promoted it. The real dervishes refused to participate in this charade. The tourist dervishes are not part of the true tradition and altho you have a romantic view of the tourist dervishes they are just puppets of the tourist dept.
Very interesting video - one can hear the breathing techniques used by the Whirling Dervishes which is akin to the Allah Hoo chanting. Thans for a beautiful but far too short video. :)
i think when something so profound becomes tourist attraction loses some of its wild powers...everone should whirl!!

Come, come again, whoever you are, come
Heathen, fire worshipper or idolatrous, come!
Come even if you broke your penitence a hundred times
Ours is the portal of hope, come as you are
