Ya, the rattling noise definitely comes from the DISA valve, but how about the hissing noise that you can also hear in the background? Where does that come from and have you managed to fix it?
@venceslau86 the hissing noise is normal, all e46 engines sound like that when your record a video of them. its simply the air running through the intake system. if there was a leak, believe me you would know by the crazy rough idle and CEL that you would have.
Yes, it is recommended to replace it when it is loose. The new part from BMW is around £140, the part number is 7 544 805. The original number on mine is discontinued, I think the 805 part number is for a revised part.
replaced my disa, it was rattling and caused a vacuum leak. costed $400cad but was definitely worth the fix.

my disa valve is making the same noise...do you recommend replacing it? I do get rough idle...sometimes.

@philenator4000 absolutely replace that shit. if the valve breaks and get sucked into your manifold, say goodbye to your engine.
