sounds odd, where is the string snapping, if its near the bridge or nut maybe try making sure there are no sharpe bits on the nut or bridge that cud be cutting the string when presure is applied from strumming. also try using good quality strings like worth or aquila.

well that' technichly what a Uke is....its a guitar, but the top 4 strings (High-E B G D) but starting on the 5th fret of a guitar, making the notes (High A E C G). On a standard Uke, the low G string is tuned up an octave, and on a Tenor Uke it's tuned normally, as on a guitar...

besides that, yea its pretty much a small guitar! you just gotta learn how to play chords a little diff to compensate for lost strings.

Of course you can. I have 3 amps and many pedals, including distortion, over drive and heavy metal. The pedals and amplifiers dont care what you plug into them. Electric ukes work the same as guitars with them.

Well, I don't really know what tips to give to a new ukulele player other than practice, learn chord positions etc... Try getting a ukulele method if you have difficulty learning by yourself. Also as a general medieval/metal tip, listen to Ensiferum if you haven't already!
