@ratious1 lanegan is still kicking ass, but his style has dropped the rock and replaced it with a heavy dose of blues. really mellow and melodic, and just really chill.
One of my favorite songs of all time. I saw Screaming Trees three times in the early 90s and they always put on a great show. This song deserved so much more exposure - it's a shame. Thanks for posting a great live version.
@ultramegaunknown Yes sir, Mark Lanagan and both the bros who play guitar were rockin' Seattle before the so called "Grunge Scene"started. Remember "The RCKCNDY"that is pretty much the time the Grunge scene started. We called that area the Herpes Triangle.(Just a Joke)Because all the clubbers would go from club to club and take the party somewhere else. Check out his solo album "Whiskey and the Holy Ghost" and make sure you have a bottle of your favorite Whiskey on hand!!
@TheKennyjoe Thank you!! It's awesome to hear from someone that was there, that saw it. I want to see Seattle... I always thought I would fit in there, not because of the "image" seen by the rest of the world via MTV, bu, rather... I love the rain, I'm a laid back guy, and I love great blues/metal/punk music.
The best band from Seattle grundge, hell I think they were the pioneer.
Not much airplay, not taking anything from A.I.C. but I seen these guys open for them in 93 and I think they blew em away, but the show was great. There guitar player kicked a girl in the head, unreal perfomance.
@jczother what are you crazy?! Joe Cocker has an amazing voice. They both have growling, gravely types of voices, thats what I meant. Joe Cocker is a legend man. He sings with so much soul. People thought he was black when he first got started because he is so bluesy. Mark is bluesy too. Mark has a great voice but Joe is one of the best of all time
@mystro810 Is this the same guy that got a name ruining other peoples song writing? He may be a legend in someones eyes, if I thought great singers of thet era it would be Eric Burdon, Robert Plant etc. sorry I HATE Joe Cocker... Did he right music are just ruin it?
@jczother Robert Plant is probably my favorite singer and Eric Burden is awesome too so Im not gonna say that Joe is better than either of them, just different. Yeah Joe isnt a songwriter, he is a singer. I think his version of A Little Help From My Friends (with the assist from Mr. Page on guitar) is even better than the Beatles version. Im not into more contemporary Joe Cocker like his version of One etc but the Joe Cocker from Woodstock has a tremendous voice
@mystro810 Opinions, I thought that was the whole invasion thing to sound like an old blues singer... I did hear they thought Steve Winwood WAS at 14 with Spencer Davis. Now see he's my all time favorite musician, singer and a real good song writer. Hell most stuff he plays all the instruments. I wish him and Hendrix could have done more.
@jczother Yeah Steve Winwood is an amazing singer/songwrite/guitar player. He is such an under-rated guitar player. He can really rip. Cant Find My Way Home is one of my favorite songs not to mention his work with Traffic. I admire him alot for not wanting to own all the spotlight (as he could have done being that he does everything) and surrounding himself with other great musicians Like Clapton and Dave Mason. He obviously just wanted to make great songs
Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Screaming Trees. These bands were "grunge". When i listen to them, I think "Why did I listen to Nirvana all the time??..."
@tanriverdd They had a band together called Mad Season. Mark Lenegan had a few comeo's on their album. He sang along with Layne Staley on that album. Mark Lenegan was good friends with bothe Staley and Cobain.
Great band. Saw Screaming Trees in Aug, 1994, playing an outdoor arena in Seattle - sandwiched between Reverend Horton Heat and headliner Soundgarden, but for me the Trees' set stole the show. Something about their unpretentious mix of metal and psychedelia just works, plus it doesn't hurt that the songwriting was terrific.
Certain actions don't make a band commercial, and if they do, does a band that tries to make a living sound any less appealing to you because of it? Grow up, You're not going to give them long-term financial stability, are you? I guess all of your favorite artists have been renting for the last 20 years and eating spaghettios and top ramen or else they're sell outs too, right? When will they LEARN, and get a REAL job? Eh? Ignorance. Grow up, guys.
maybe because Nirvana was all the hype at that time, and they were stealing the spotlight and success from such great bands as features on this show! No Nirvana - Nevermind!
How come the Trees dont get back together? Even if its just for the money, all these other &*%^$#'s are doing it. The who playing at halftime for nfl superbowl?!
"Dust" was one of the best rock albums to ever come out, so damn strong from track one to the end...tooo bad record company didnt trust them and give them any advertising budget...but fuck, Mark and the Conner brothers fought like hell all the time, seen it happen a couple of times..scary as shit..but dammit they made some great music
Still have this on VHS - The Late Show: "No Nirvana". This was perhaps the finest track. Pity the guitar gets a bit out of tune towards the end.
Other good ones from the show were Rage Against the Machine (Bullet in the Head), Janes Addiction (Been Caught Stealing), Sonic Youth (Drunken Butterfly) and Smashing Pumpkins (Rhinoceros).
god bless the grunge movement...real musicians actually playing real music...do you think in todays commercialism that they would allow an overweight base player? or a front man with a widows peak? NEVER its all about looks and not music. name one musician or band in the last eight years who is ugly........cant? imigine that. i wonder if theres some millie vanillieism going on in todays music industry.
I saw very production years ago in the UK on T.V very late 80's or very early 90's.I remember going to the pub and asking if anyone saw it ? and who were they ? etc etc.Well here i am and now i know what the song is called.Made a very big impression on my mind at the time.Enough for me to search them out many many years later.

adegamisoumounopano 1 year ago 4
@adegamisoumounopano Lanegan shows what one can utilize with a rich, deep voice, and the intelligence, the technique, the soul to utilize it.
It's hard to find a baritone with this much charisma. Usually, the tenors rank towards the top- Freddie Mercury, Chris Cornell, Robert Plant.
But Lanegan easily ranks up there. Very touching voice.
