  • I feel soo much better about my Custom Shop 69 pups investment today! Cant wait to get em.

  • @jizzumintheeye Yeah I love em,great pick ups for the money.

  • Sounds very nice!

I have the same set of pups, boxed right here on my desk! Collecting a mint 3tone Squier tomorrow, (cheap-cheap), but can't decide if the pups must go in there or in my '60's re-issue Strat. Hardly any sustain on this one and has this snappy sound, which I am not very fond of! Any suggestions? (I play clean most of the time).

  • what kind of amp are you playing through?

  • @andrew77784 Marshall dsl401

  • Amazing. 4:09 could have been the ending to the video. It was PERFECT!

    Dm

  • @Detman101 Thanks

  • They sound great.

  • i like the glossy shine on the guitar

  • @xthegamex00 Ooops,I took all the shine/finish off this strat not long asfter this vid.I bought it new for £1100 then took wire wool sand paper to the body and hardware.the back of the neck I sanded down and refinished with old school nitro......and now I like it.

  • @snaskc It was just to sticky and glossy for my taste, great guitar now.

  • John Mayer's sound!

  • Yeah!!! I'm building a David Gilmour Black Strat 1980 replica and this is my neck pickup! I heard it was the best thing to use but I didn't know, but the first 10 seconds of your vid proved that it was! Thanks for posting this!

  • @guitarman0309 Thanks and good luck with the strat, post a vid when you're done.

  • These sounds just amazing. I'm definitely putting these into my project. A Warmoth strat body, 1 piece alder. Planning on a Mary Kaye replica. Keep up the great playing!

  • @nateylb Thanks man, yeah there great pups, you wont be disapointed, let me know what you think of them.

  • what type of amp are you using for this demo?

  • Those pickups sound nearly as good as the originals on my Squier Affinity!

  • @s0ngsfr0mthew00d Really? ... the ones on my mine sound SHITE.

  • @4Zoot Could not have said it better my friend.

  • is that john mayer?

  • Wow I really like your guitar's tone! I am about to install those same pickups on my strat and was wondering which capacitors you paired with those pickups?

  • @accessrob Thanks,I'm sorry but I really cant remember, wait! it was all pre wired by fender,it came from a custom shop strat.Look on the fender CS website for a strat with the same pickup and look up the specs it should say.

  • great playing! please tell me, as this is bugging me here, but what is that noise after you first cluk the strings - sounds like a high pitched voice or something or other? Please Help!!!

  • @Dr9000 Thanks,That my friend is my wife saying "hello baby" in baby talk to our little girl who must have been about 6 months old at the time.so now you know, thanks man.

  • Man that's a nice sounding/looking guitar.

  • @37paull1 Thanks man

  • what amp are you using?

  • Marshall dsl401

  • Comment removed

  • No sorry, went ages ago,you can pick em though on ebay.

  • @snaskc any affects used?

  • @StratPlayer4Life just a bit of reverb from the amp.

  • I hear a little bit of popping. Is that the cam or are you touching the pickups? Great tone and playing by the way.

  • Yeah this was one of my 1st vids with an old crappy fuji camera, but peolpe seem to like it so i kept it on.Thanks

  • all i know is after playing these noiseless pickups id think id rather have the hum thank you

  • @wyancey2 yeah the noiseless are a bit sterile, the hum on the 69's isnt that bad, almost vintage

  • @wyancey2 You know its quite different, the noise of single coils is necessarily ugly. A hum changes sound completely. its another thing.

  • i just bought a deluxe american and those noiseless are the worst pickups ive ever heard i was thinking putting in texas special pickups nut after your video i think i like these how do they sound with some gain

  • @wyancey2 Hi,go for the 69's if you ask me,I have both the TX's and the 69's........the 69's do way more, they sound lovley with gain,do a great Jimi,SRV even hard rock stuff like ZZ top etc,but remember theres no reverse wound middle pup witrh the 69 set,so no hum cancel.

  • These pickups, IMO, produce more of that SRV sound than the Texas Specials that came with this guitar! These pickups are also good for that Hendrix sound as well judging from the other youtube videos that I have seen. Other than that, your guitar playing is exceptionally well. It is very refreshing to see someone playing the Blues on youtube other than Metal (DGMW, I love Metal!) Good to see somebody playing the Blues and playing it damn well!

  • Yeah you're right,I've said that before.Thank you for the kind words my friend.

  • @snaskc Can you please tell me what amp you are using and the EQ settings please. If you are using an overdrive pedal, please tell me what brand and the settings. Thanks! (I bet you are playing through a combo amp)

  • Amp was a Marshall dsl401 combo,eq would have been all roughly around 5ish,no pedal.

  • your picking hand technique is outta this freakin world with skills, so natural and flawless. You make it look so fun to just strum, and I play too. Great playing, Bravo

  • Wow thank you man, very very kind words which mean alot, thanks.

  • No offense, but at the beginning of the video the video quality was kinda bad and I always watch guitar videos and the guys with the bad video quality are always bad at guitar, but you're really good! Just thought I'd tell you :P

  • I know this was one of the 1st vids done with an old fuji cam,not a dvd video cam,so that considerd it's not to bad,has 75.000 views so someone likes it.gives you an idea about the pups aswell, which is why I posted it.

  • sounds a little too spanky for me... thats probly not the right word but ehh.

  • how much of an issue would you consider it is that the 69s are low output?

    is it really that low???

I love the sound, and personally Im thinking of swapping my tex mex pushies for these, im just a little concerned about them being too quiet.

  • I dont think volume is the issue here,It's just that there low gain, vintage sounding.I dont notice and volume drop really.I use these and tx specials and theres no difference in volume just gain.Hope this helps, all depends on the stuff you play as well.

  • @snaskc how would compare the Tex/S and the CS69 as far as tone goes? Which is the more versatile pickup?

  • awesome

  • Ah nvm found out through other comments. Nice playing :-)

  • What amp is this played through?

  • @snaskc how much noise do these pick-ups make or are they noiseless?

  • No not noiseless by any means,no reverse wound middle for hum cancel either, quite noisey really, but Fenders best pups for shure, great pickups, would be my first choice for the stuff I play.

  • Got the same PU's on my Classic Player 60...! Great sound, just a bit low on volume, but I'm getting used to that. Really cool playing btw...:-)

  • Thanks Johnny,Yeah they are low output but I love em!

  • Hey man sounds great! These are the replacement 69's right?

  • Yeah and thanks

  • Lenny... Nice dude.

  • awesome little wing, love it

  • Thanks man

  • out of my mind... john mayer

    nice choice

  • I'm guessing that john mayers out of my mind licks were based on Buddy guys five long years, coz that's what I was trying to play, your not the 1st to say it.Thanks anyway man.

  • @snaskc the first lick also resembles sweet sixteen by BB king.

  • Great playing. What's the amp that you're using?

  • Thanks,Marshall dsl401

  • I have these on one of my guitars. The only slight bit of criticism I had was with one of the pick-ups; the bridge pick-up; I don't know if there's possibly a small problem with mine, but the volume backs off when I switch to it. I do like the sound of it still, but the volume difference compared with the middle and neck is quite noticable.

  • @JimmyGuitarist dude just screw the bridge pickup up closer to the strings to equal the output ;)

  • Hey Jimmy I would say you got a problem there, pickup or wiring.Pickup height?

  • @snaskc I've fiddled round with the height before, and I just highered it again and I feel very stupid; it seems to have worked. I didn't think height of pick-ups had much effect on the loudness of them.

I guess I should thank you for fixing my bridge pickup.

  • @JimmyGuitarist

    Highered is not a word.

  • @WoWintosh Raised.

  • @JimmyGuitarist Cant belive you replied to that! that guy must have a lot of free time,or he is a english teacher lol.

  • I'm gonna put u baby.... I'm gonna but u right out of my mind!!! Yeah!!!! John Mayer!

  • Great sound.

  • Thanks axeman

  • why did you change the pickups from srv's? what pickups did it come with originally? and the pickguard?

  • the gold pickguard looks like shit

  • that whas buddy guy! five long years ;D loved it!

  • Thanks man,you got it!

  • IMO these sound more SRV like in this video than some videos of texas specials. maybe it's just the amp settings but these just seem clearer..

  • IMO These are the better pups.

  • @snaskc yeah I'd be inclined to agree! this video just sold me the classic players 60s strat with these pups in. cheers

  • sounds so great ! i'll grab a US strat with custom 69 pickups and duncan SSL-1 ...

i just can't wait to take it home , i want that guitar even badder now . Can't wait .

Next week if everything goes well and i'll be playing my very own blackie :D

  • You have beautiful tone sir. What's the amp here?

  • Thanks Johnny a marshall dsl401

  • This must be as frustrating as if everyone were trying to convince the player who posted the video that he was actually playing a les paul rather than a strat.

  • @LoganBrothersMusic .........not sure what you mean

  • @snaskc Do you get alot of buzzing from the neck pickup?I was wondering because I have some 69 custom shop pickups and my guitar luthier installed only two of them and he wanted to know if I wanted to install the 69 neck pickup or use another pickup. He mentioned that if I had the 69 cs neck pickup installed I would hear buzzing when switching to the neck pickup (4th & 5th position). He mentioned that it was reverse wound and that's what causes the buzzing. Can I get that 69 cs pickup rewound?

  • @BlackMusicGenre Hi,from what I understand you have been told wrong,in a normal set of strat pickups the middle pup is reverse wound. This gives you hum cancel in positions 2 and 4,the 69's middle is NOT reverse wound. The hum on mine is low anyway.

  • damn, i love the way you played little wing. it's not the original way jimi played it and everyone just wants to play it like the record. you on the other hand (like me) make your own version. kind of like the idea of the song. Jimi would be proud.

  • Thanks man kind words

  • @jonahtran1 It's Stevie Ray's style

  • can someone show me the bb song were it sounds like the riff at 2.42 im sure its woman and u would be happy to be proven wrong

  • no youre right woman in you by ben harper

  • I had the SVR strat,, yeah i didnt like the tex pickups too much either.

The way you got it now (i just got rid of mine and got another strat)

sounds more like SVR anyways lol.. good swap

  • Thanks man,I love this neck, the rest i dont care for really, but the neck is perfect for me,you know when it fits like a glove

  • ugh no .son . that first bit u played u may think its ben harper....harper may have snagged from bb king ." how blue can get"..it bb king riff. son

  • Wait are you on the same page? are you talking about the riff at 2:40? which was what the original question was about or are you talking about the 1st bit of playing? (which is stolen from Buddy Guy's 5 long years) Their is no BB king in this vid,I wish there was.In ether case your showing yourself to be a total fucking wanker, calling people son!

  • @snaskc I'm guessing you may have played a buddy guy lick that just happened to be a classic riff used by other blues artists too, such as BB. Which we know can easily be the case when dealing with blues. Either way that was some badass playing. I am loving that strat and loving that amp too.

  • Thanks man, that other guy was just being a dick,of course alot of licks pop up in diferrent songs by diferrent players but some people just have to talk shit about it,they cant help themselves.

  • ben harper???/thats BB king son...ben harper may be covering it

  • No it's not son it's Ben Harper Woman in you,be told for fuck sake.

  • Great Video and great styke Mate! Could you tell me what are you playing from 2:40 ? Thanks

  • Hey thanks man...the song is Women in you by Ben Harper.

  • Where did you get that pickguard.....really looks great!

  • Original fender gold anodized 57 8 hole...get them anywhere online

  • Do you like the 69 pups or texas specials?

  • great sound.. maybe you can help me, im looking for pickups that brings me very close to John Mayers' sound. Im about to build a guitar, and i want that john mayer sound on my custom strat! So, do you know what im looking for?

  • youtube compresses the audio quality with video uploads, its a shame. It might sound better.

  • very john mayer like tone...the best tones are unintended!

  • hey man, nice vid : ), but I was wandering if anyone could help me, I want new pickups for my 70's mexican strat 2008 re-edition, but I want something very Steve Ray Vaughan-ish, and something that will really accentuate the highs because my higher strings really don't have much sound...if someone could help me that would be great : )

  • Thanks man, anything usa or custom shop will make a huge improvement over stock mex pickups,I love the 69's and like the tx's spec's aswell, kinman blues are something I want to try in the future.Go for a vintage lower output pickup rather than a hot set.

  • @snaskc

thanks allot man : ), I actually researched everything last night and I think I'm going to go for the texas specials, along with a few other improvements like staggered locking tuners. keep rocking : )

  • @zer01ife some fender texas specials, or some big dippers. and a keeley ts9 (and if you want to go stevie crazy get two, thats what he did.) get an all tube and that will get you pretty much to what he used. oh yea and some 13 gauge strings. (actually don't you will literally play your fingers off, also what he did). good luck

  • @kweerb8

thanks for the advice, I'll look into it : )

  • Great playing...but...no....effects mean efx...pedal or amp. Reverb is reverb...

  • OK going to change it now to stop the comments from the youtube police!

  • Very Nice touch there jasper, You got the blues in the soul. Nice dynamics

  • Thanks man...Jasper?

  • sweet blues tone

  • Thanks man

  • Think you are using reverb don't you?

  • of course yes,the reverb is on the amp. Most people mean pedals etc when they say effects......but there's always one eh?

  • Think you are using reverb don't you?

  • Great sound... awesome guitar!

What kind of amp/effects/speakers are you playing thru?

    Thank you

  • Thanks,no effects ,marshall dsl 401 with the crappy stock speaker.

  • Gorgeous man!

  • Thanks

  • those sound great! considering a set of these on another guitar i have...nice playing

  • Wonderful sound!!

  • Thanks

  • love that bassy side...

    great sounding guitar

  • Thanks man

  • clapton's cover of five long years is pretty intense

  • riffs at the begging sound like «5 long years» from Buddy Guy :)

  • Spot on my friend! all these John Fucking Mayer comments get me down.

  • @snaskc lol, keep it up bluesin' my friend!

  • Comment removed

  • @snaskc if you think about it thats a good thing his pickups either sound like big dippers or they sound like the sixties pickups which its hard to find an accurate sounding pickup.i hate how everybody associates the texas specials with srv. they're worlds apart. kudos on little wing and lenny btw :)

  • @jstuka1234 or why dont you come when i call by john mayer. i think thats the name of the song anyway.

  • it sounds like a part of a song from John Mayer but I don' t know the name of it in 0:22?? Good skills, good job man! I think I have it- ' small dancing in a burning room '

  • There was a Mayer lick in there a few times, your right! .. Don't you mean "Slow" dancing in a burning room mate :)

  • @Fenderboy93

    of course, yes!

  • Really love that CS69 pu sound !!!

    Great sound !

    Keep on rockin'

    XXX

  • Thanks man

  • So warm...very nice !

  • Thank you

  • that sounds filthy good

    magic man

    keep rockin'...!!!!

  • Thanks man.

  • Did you learn them BG licks by ear?

You do a really good job.

  • Yeah and thanks.

  • good playing borhter, just ordered me some off musicians friend, yipeekiyaaa

  • Thanks,youre gonna love em

  • nice :)

  • They sound good man.

  • just read som1's comment sayin you should get your own style, clearly they havent seen this video. you cant play the blues without channeling influences, its what you do with them that counts. nice playing and tone man!

  • Hey,can someone recommend me a good pickups for blues? My budget is 300$.

  • if i had $300. I would look at custom shop 69's,texas specials, and klein S-5's. stevie ray vaughan's signature strat has texas specials. Klein S-5's have a scooped mid. essentially, theyre the same pickups that John Mayer has in his guitar. But the exact kind of pickups JM has are called "Big Dippers". Unfortunately they arent on the market. only in custom JM strats. you have to try out different pickups and decide for yourself. find out what you like.

  • what kind of amp you using? sounds really good!

  • i love your pickguard color

  • and the capacitor is a .2uf or 047uf

  • sounds awesome dude! love it!

  • Thanks man

  • What kind of modifications were made in the middle pickup.

Usually positions 2 and 4 sound is not good.

Was reversed plaridade the magnets ??????

  • The middle pickup is not reversed wound.

  • Mayer sucks so he has to copy off the Master ... Buddy Guy

  • True. He has to copy everybody, Buddy, I even hear Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder in some of his arrangements. Of course he doesn't have the skill, talent or even creativity of any of these legends but unfortunately due to our stupid people in the world today, he will make more than probably all of them did in their lives combined. Fricken sick (not cool Sick, just plain ol sick)!?

  • and hendrix
